Cloudy's Phil Lord and Chris Miller Directing 21 Jump Street
December 20, 2009

Last week, Sony's Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs was nomination in the Best Animated Film category of the Golden Globes, the first of many nominations it's likely to get this year. Heat Vision is now reporting that the directors of the animated film, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, are "in negotiations" to direct the big screen version of 21 Jump Street that was written by Jonah Hill and Michael Bacall. We interviewed Lord and Miller back in September as well, they're very cool guys. The original TV show aired in the 1980s and starred Johnny Depp and Peter DeLuise as "young looking" cops who worked undercover in high schools.
We've already heard plenty about the project, including that it'll be R-rated and "insane," but just not who would be directing. Other directors like Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen, Twilight) and Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) have also been approached by Sony, but it looks like this will be Phil Lord and Chris Miller's next film. If you didn't also know, those two were the same two behind the animated show on MTV "Clone High" that only ran for one season. It's a great show, I highly suggest checking it out. I'll be curious to see how they do jumping into the first live-action film, but I have a feeling they'll kick ass. Now, who to cast?

This is my favorite Johnny Depp role. I dunno why but … he's really good in this show. And the other actors are great too. Great plots. I love it. I still watch it faithfully.
