Rob Marshall is Still Nonchalantly Sitting & Waiting for Pirates 4
It was just over a month ago that director Rob Marshall was confirmed as the director of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth installment of the swashbuckling adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow. However, when Disney had a bit of a shake-up with chairman Dick Cook (the man who really got the right people excited about Pirates to begin with) stepping down after 38 years, that left Johnny Depp a little less enthusiastic about a return to the high seas. It sounds like not much has changed as ComingSoon caught up with Marshall recently and he sounds none too firm on the sequel, but isn't that worried about it.

Al Pacino, Barry Levinson & Buck Henry Adapting The Humbling
After this year's Summer of Death, losing a filmmaking legend like John Hughes got me thinking about how difficult it's going to be in the coming years as more legendary actors, writers and directors responsible for the films I've grown up loving (or discovered recently) start passing away. However, three legendary artists are still alive and kicking as the NY Times reports that Al Pacino, director Barry Levinson and writer/actor Buck Henry are teaming up to adapt Philip Roth's novel The Humbling, the story of a deteriorating and increasingly irrelevant actor who finds the possibility of renewal in a younger woman.

Studio Ghibli's Next Film is an Adaptation of The Borrowers
Hayao Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli has announced (via GhibliWorld) their next animated film, to be titled Karigurashi no Arrietty aka Arrietty Borrows Everything in English, which is an adaptation of Mary Norton's fantasy classic "The Borrowers." The new feature film will be directed by studio animator Hiromasa Yonebayashi under the supervision of Ghibli maestro Hayao Miyazaki. The Toho Company is planning on bringing the film to theaters next summer in Japan (in 2010) which means it probably won't come to the US until the year after. The theme song has been co-written by the French celtic harpist/singer Cécile Corbel.

Vincent D'Onofrio to Play Harvey Weinstein in Down & Dirty
If you've worked in the movie industry at all, you've probably heard of the book Down and Dirty Pictures: Miramax, Sundance, and the Rise of Independent Film. It's about the time when Harvey Weinstein and his brother Bob Weinstein ran Miramax in the 90's and what the independent film world was really like. It's apparently a fascinating read, giving a gritty and realistic inside look at the independent filmmaking world that you won't find anywhere else. Well, ScreenDaily is reporting that Yamani Pictures is adapting the book and they've set Vincent D'Onofrio (above left) to play Harvey Weinstein in this. Perfect choice, I think.

THR's Awards Season Roundtables with 6 Fantastic Directors
What would you get if you were to put Kathryn Bigelow, Quentin Tarantino, Peter Jackson, James Cameron, Jason Reitman and Lee Daniels all together in one room? Well, if I were also in that same room with them, I'd probably explode with excitement. But THR did just that as part of their new Awards Season Roundtables series. The trade mag pulled all six of those very talented directors, almost all of whom are expected to be nominated at the Oscars next year, into one room, asked them some questions, and let them at it. You should have a big, goofy grin on your face watching this, it's history in the making.

Second Official Trailer for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland
Disney has just debut a second full-length trailer for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland tonight that will also be attached to most prints of Avatar this weekend (in 3D as well). Everyone went crazy over the first trailer, but you ain't seen nothing yet, as this one blows that old trailer right out of the water! Alice on Wonderland stars Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Crispin Glover, Stephen Fry, Christopher Lee, Michael Sheen, and Alan Rickman. This just looks absolutely speculator, I'm so excited for it! I haven't been this excited for a new Tim Burton movie in a while. Watch the trailer below!

Marc Forster & Gerard Butler Taking on Machine Gun Preacher?
Once Gerard Butler fought for Sparta in 300 his career took off from what was previously spotted with brief appearances in films, to starring roles in blockbusters. His recent bouts in romantic comedies like The Ugly Truth show that Butler isn't ready to be pigeonholed into one genre just yet, and it looks like he might be diversifying even more as the gossip blog Oh No They Didn't snagged a story from a local Pennsylvania website about Butler potentially starring in a film called Machine Gun Preacher. Said to be directed by Marc Forster the story chronicles the life of real life minister, biker and soldier Sam Childers. Read on!

First Teaser Poster for The Bounty Hunter with Aniston & Butler
Okay, I'm featuring this poster because I think this movie has some appeal with Jennifer Aniston starring and Gerard Butler. Sure it's another romantic comedy relationship fiasco movie, but it could be something cool as well, like a Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Yahoo debuted the teaser poster for The Bounty Hunter which sees Aniston and Butler as ex-husband and wife. Butler is a bounty hunter who learns that his next target is his ex-wife. Sounds kind of like The Break-Up goes to hell or something like that. You never know, it could be funny. This design is pretty fresh, I like the colors and using the two of them to fill the frame. Looks good!

Breck Eisner Remaking David Cronenberg's The Brood Next
Another day, another remake. This news actually hit yesterday, but we didn't really pick up on it until today. On Monday, Hero Complex confirmed that Breck Eisner had been replaced on Universal's Creature from the Black Lagoon remake by newcomer Carl Rinsch. Eisner is currently finishing The Crazies and is also still attached to the Flash Gordon remake in development at Columbia Pictures, but his very next project might actually be a remake of David Cronenberg's 1979 horror film The Brood. The film is about a woman who telepathically communicates with her brood group of mutant children, instructing them to act out violently.

US Remake of Swedish 'Millenium Trilogy' in the Works at Sony
Last year it was the critically acclaimed vampire thriller Let the Right One In. And it looks like the Swedes are doing something right, as indieWIRE reports that the rights to Steig Larsson's Millennium Trilogy, which begins with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, have just been picked up by Sony for producer Scott Rudin and writer Steve Zailian to adapt. They'll be working from Stieg Larsson's books that were also adapted in Sweden. The story follows a once-respected financial journalist who is promised professional resurrection if he researches a mysterious disappearance that has been unsolved for nearly four decades.

Watch This: Great Behind-the-Scenes Prince of Persia Featurette
Disney has debuted a new behind-the-scenes featurette on Yahoo for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time that focuses on Dastan played by Jake Gyllenhaal. We've already seen the first trailer, so everyone should know what to expect, but there is some new footage in here that's worth checking out. I don't know why everyone is so negative about this movie, I still think it looks awesome. Sure, Jake doesn't exactly look that Persian, but who cares? I'd rather have a good actor than anyone else. And so far it looks like he's going to kick some ass. I like the dagger effects and I think Alfred Molina looks great, too. Anyway, check it out!

First Inception Poster Discovered in New Viral Maze Game!
The first official poster for Christopher Nolan's Inception has been discovered in a new viral mini-game. I hope this is a sign of things to come, as the viral for The Dark Knight was the best we've ever seen, and I want to see more virals like that. The poster is a similar design to the Joker poster from TDK but this time it has Leonaro DiCaprio facing away from us standing in knee-deep water rushing into a city. No, this isn't another Roland Emmerich disaster movie, this is part of someone's dreams or imagination. That doesn't really explain much, but it's still cool to see. More info on the viral can be found beneath the poster below.
