John Malkovich to Play the Villain Vulture in Spider-Man 4?
I hate to run another Spider-Man 4 rumor, but this time Movieline came across something that actually seems legit. They're saying that they were informed by an insider that John Malkovich is being eyed for the role of the villain Vulture and also that, as we reported previously, Anne Hathaway is being eyed for a role as well. Interestingly, they say Hathaway will play a character named Felicia Hardy, who is the altar ego of a villain known as the Vulturess, not Black Cat (like in the comics). For once, this actually gels with what we know from our inside sources. It seems like these characters and this casting may finally be accurate.

Lone Scherfig Going Comedic With New Rom-Com 'One Day'
If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend seeing An Education when you get the chance. That fantastic British period drama features a performance by Carey Mulligan that I truly hope wins the Best Lead Actress Oscar next March. Speaking of which, Focus Features just announced (via THR) that An Education director Lone Scherfig will next direct a new romantic comedy for them called One Day. The screenplay is based on a novel of the same name by British author David Nicholls and is being written by Nicholls himself. This will be third English language film for Denmark-born Scherfig, who is really taking off with An Education.

Hunger Director Steve McQueen Directing Fela Kuti Biopic Next
Focus Features has announced that Hunger director Steve McQueen (not the action movie star from the 60s) has been hired to direct Fela, a film based on the life of African musician and activist Fela Anikulapo Kuti (seen above). A musical just opened on Broadway a few weeks also called "Fela!" about the very same person. McQueen is a British director who broke out big with his intense political/prison drama Hunger, which went on to win numerous indie awards in 2008. McQueen is also writing the script for Fela with Biyi Bandele, adapting the Michael Veal book "Fela: The Life and Times of an African Musical Icon." Read on!

The Snow Queen is One of Disney's Next Hand-Drawn Films
Back in February, we reported that Disney wants to release a new hand-drawn animated movie every two years. The Princess and the Frog is already out in theaters, with an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and is set to expand nationwide this weekend. But what's next for Disney? We've heard rumblings of other projects in the works and, of course, the new Winnie the Pooh movie will be hand-drawn, but is there more? Brendon Connelly from SlashFilm got a small update on another new hand-drawn Disney project called The Snow Queen. It's apparently an old project that fell apart a few years back and has been dusted off again recently.

Rob Luketic: From Romantic Comedy to Romancing the Stone?
Though director Robert Luketic has had a steady track record for mostly average romantic comedies like Win a Date with Tad Hamilton and more recently The Ugly Truth, his action flick Killers starring Ashton Kutcher just might be a good transition as Pajiba reports that he might now be attached to direct the already announced remake of Robert Zemeckis' original 1984 action adventure Romancing the Stone. It's been over a year since we heard anything about this, but it sounds like the studio wants to have Luketic tackle this one before he sets out on his recently inherited Barbarella remake, which better not star Katherine Heigl.

Casting Tidbits: Elijah Wood, Kate Bosworth, & Frank Langella
To Casting Tidbits and beyond! First up, THR reports tonight that Elijah Wood and Robin Williams are in negotiations to reprise their penguin alter egos in Happy Feet 2, the follow-up to the 2006 computer animated musical about a young tap-dancing social outcast named Mumble amongst a society of uncannily talented singing penguins. But under the tutelage of some funky fresh penguins including Ramon and the master of funk Lovelace (both voiced by Williams) Mumble gets the courage to be true to himself and his happy feet. The sequel's story is being kept under wraps but George Miller is writing and directing again.

Watch This: Steve Buscemi in Saint John of Las Vegas Trailer
I'm not entirely sure why, but Steve Buscemi hasn't been in anything besides independent films recently. He hasn't appeared in any major feature films since I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, although he is also in Youth in Revolt. Saint John of Las Vegas is a new indie from a fist-time filmmaker starring Steve Buscemi, Romany Malco, Sarah Silverman, Peter Dinklage, Emmanuelle Chriqui, and Tim Blake Nelson. I'd never heard of it before today, but it looks great, and I'm quite interested in checking it out. It's a small indie film about a compulsive gambler who gets lured back into Las Vegas. Check it out, it looks kinda fun.

Peter Jackson Provides an Interesting Update on Temeraire
The first time, and only time, we've ever written about this Temeraire adaptation was way, way back in 2006. It was announced back then that Peter Jackson would be adapting Naomi Novik's Temeraire series of novels. But since then its been three years and we haven't heard anything about this adaptation until now. Quint from AICN caught up with Jackson and asked him for an update. He describes the Temeraire novels as "Master and Commander with dragon attacks." It's a character driven action fantasy, the perfect kind of story for Jackson to bring to life on the big screen soon (while Guillermo del Toro is directing The Hobbit).

Burton and Depp Shooting Dark Shadows Starting Next Year
Ah man, not another vampire movie?! Don't worry, this one will be a bit different than we've seen recently. Although we've heard this before (see here), producer Graham King confirmed again with SciFi Wire that Tim Burton's Dark Shadows movie will shoot next year. "We're actually going to shoot that film next September/October with Tim Burton and Johnny [Depp]," King told them. Depp will play the 175-year-old vampire Barnabas Collins, who is in search of fresh blood and his lost love. Dark Shadows is based on a horror TV show that ran on ABC from 1966 to 1971. Tim Burton is directing a script written by John August.

Is the Wachowskis's Next Project a Futuristic Iraq War Movie?
What the heck is going on? Peter from SlashFilm just called me to tell me about some interesting things he found on Twitter today. Arianna Huffington, seen in the photo, the Editor-in-Chief and Co-Founder of The Huffington Post newspaper, recently started tweeting about her visit to Chicago for a movie shoot with the Wachowskis. Here's her first mysterious Tweet: "On plane to Chicago to take part in the Wachowskis' movie on Iraq from the perspective of the future." Whoa, whoa, wait what?! Did the Wachowski's get an entire movie into production without anyone knowing? And it's set 90 years in the future and about Iraq?

Scarlet Fire Adapting Adam Hamdy's Comic Book The Hunter
Another new comic book adaptation in the works. THR announces that Scarlet Fire Entertainment will produce a feature adaptation of Dare Comics' series The Hunter. Written by Adam Hamdy, The Hunter is about a CIA agent named Gabriel Mot with extraordinary powers. He's tasked with finding those responsible for coordinated attacks on America, and reveals a hidden world of dark beings with tremendous destructive powers. "In a world where monsters walk the Earth, nothing is what it seems." Sounds a bit like the B.P.R.D. or something Guillermo del Toro should direct. Hamdy will create an original Hunter story for the movie.

Resident Evil: Afterlife in 3D Might Be Pushed Back to 2011
Although they've already finished shooting the entire movie, Sony is delaying the release of Resident Evil: Afterlife because they're not sure they'll have enough time to finish all the 3D work. Look what 3D is doing to our movies! STYD reports that the original August 27th, 2010 release date for Resident Evil: Afterlife, which was the same date originally announced, has been filled by the manga-adapted movie Priest instead. That time will give them a few extra months to finish the 3D on the movie. But actress Milla Jovovich isn't so sure they're officially delaying it yet, as she had a few things to say on Twitter about this news. Read on!
