Bangarang for Casting Tidbits! First up, THR reports Keir Gilchrist (of Showtime's "United States of Tara") has joined Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's coming'-of-age film It's Kind of a Funny Story based on Ned Vizzini's novel. Also joining the cast are Zoe Kravitz (Assassination of a High School Presient), Aasif Mandavi (Ghost Town), Lauren Graham (Flash of Genius) and Jim Gaffigan (Away We Go) in the story of a 16-year-old (Gilchrist) who, stressed out from the demands of being a teenager, checks himself into a mental health clinic where he finds the youth ward to be full, forcing him into the adult ward.
THR also reports that Owen Wilson has signed on to play the titular dog Marmaduke in the feature film adaptation of the classic newspaper comic strip created in 1954 and is still running in papers to this day. The strip revolves around the Winslow family and the misadventures of their rascally Great Dane, Marmaduke. The live-action/CG hybrid sees Marmaduke "navigate a volatile Mutts vs. Pedigrees turf war, woo the purebred of his dreams and overcome a fall from grace." Tom Dey (Failure to Launch) is directing the script by Tim Rasmussen and Vince Di Meglio and while the story leaves more than enough to be desired, the cast certainly deserves some attention.
Wilson seems like the right guy for the job fresh off another canine story, Marley & Me, in addition to his previous voicework in Pixar's Cars and the forthcoming Fantastic Mr. Fox. In addition, he'll be joined by human characters including Judy Greer, Lee Pace and William H. Macy, while Fergie, Emma Stone, George Lopez, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Steve Coogan, Damon Wayans and Marlon Wayans will supply voices. So when this movie comes out, it'll bring down the stock of quite a few careers.
That's all the Casting Tidbits we've got for now. Stay tuned for more casting updates to come!
