Check This Out: District 9's MNU Truck Found at Comic-Con

While walking back to my hotel earlier today in San Diego, I stumbled across this badass truck for MNU from District 9. There's no subliminal viral marketing - they slapped some huge District 9 stickers across this thing. I'm guessing this is an actual vehicle they used on the set and decided just to ship/bring it over to Comic-Con and Los Angeles for promotion. It's pretty awesome to see this thing in real life and it has a huge gun mounted on the top, too. I'm hoping they put that gun to use in the movie, but I haven't seen it yet. I've uploaded a little video of this that I shot with my iPhone so you can get a better look at it. Check it out!

An extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions in Johannesburg, South Africa suddenly find a "kindred spirit" in a government agent from MNU that is exposed to their mysterious biotechnology.

District 9 is both written and directed by first-timer Neill Blomkamp, a South African filmmaker who previously directed the awesome Halo: Arms Race shorts. The screenplay was co-written by Blomkamp and writing partner Terri Tatchell. This project is based on Blomkamp's short film Alive in Joburg, which can be seen online here. Sony will be bringing District 9 to theaters everywhere on August 14th this summer.

As one of the sites regular limey's I'd like to thank Alex for all of the work he is putting in to bring us all of the call stuff from comic con. Your coverage is unmatchable and without it I would be stuck here on the other side of the pond wondering what it is I should do.

That 'badass gun' would be the Browning M2 .50 cal machine gun... And yes, it is indeed badass.

You guys...this stuff is getting outta hand. There was a Humans Only Bathroom sign with District 9 related things at my work. I mean wtf..?

Lol well no one will forget when the movie will come out at least...but that .50 on the top has been in every war movie in the last 20 years, not to kill your buzz or anything.

Nah I know Cody, I'm just saying, guns are awesome, and seeing on like that on a District 9 truck is even more badass... Like I said, I hope they use it in the movie!

OK, this is wierd... I went to my parents house today (July 28) to pick up my kids and lo and behold THIS truck is sitting in their driveway!!! I guess they had some engine trouble and my cousin was called to fix it, but this is :40 mins from the convention center) I was shocked because i just saw it over the weekend at Comic-Con. I have pics of my kids climbing on it. Funny and strange. (and yes, it was used in the movie, the owner said). BTW, first time at CC, what a blast! San Diego needs to keep it here!!! -Joe
