Check This Out: The Book of Eli Behind-the-Scenes Video
by Alex Billington
March 17, 2009
We've talked a lot about the Hughes Brothers' The Book of Eli recently, namely casting and a few other minor details. Last week we ran some early set photos, but now we have an actual video. Entertainment Tonight (ugh) put up a video from the set with Denzel Washington. The set pretty much looks exactly as it has been described - a post-apocalyptic western. While the reporter in the vieo claims we're watching the "climax" of the movie, I really don't think it is. I'm sure it's just a heated scene involving a shoot out between Denzel and Gary Oldman, but it's probably not the climax. Anyway, check this out if you're interested!
There's also a couple of interesting details from this video that I've got to bring up. First off, Mila Kunis mentions that the sun explodes in the future, which is why the world looks the way it does in The Book of Eli. Kind of cool. Secondly, there are two guys at the end talking about shooting the most action in one take and one cut. Does this mean we'll see more of those lengthy uncut action sequences like in Hard Boiled or Children of Men? Were the Hughes Brothers inspired by dystopian future in Children of Men so much that they had to replicate Alfonso Cuarón's uncut action sequences? I'm not sure, but this is all quite curious.
