Christopher Lee Joins the Cast of Hammer's The Resident

Christopher Lee is going back to horror! Our friends at Bloody Disgusting are reporting that Lee has joined the cast of The Resident (to be retitled Invasion Of Privacy), the newest film in production at the recently relaunched Hammer Films. Hilary Swank will star alongside of Jeffrey Dean Morgan. This will mark the directorial debut for Finnish music video and TV director Antti J. Jokinen. The Resident is about a young doctor who suspects she may not be alone in her new Brooklyn loft, then learns that her landlord has formed a frightening obsession with her. Shooting on the indie thriller will start in June this summer.

For those horror fanatics out there who may have already picked up on this, Lee's involvement in The Resident is somewhat exciting because he has quite a history with Hammer Films. He's probably best known for starring as Count Dracula in at least five of their Dracula films, but he's also appeared in other horror flicks like The Mummy, The Hound of the Baskervilles, Terror of the Hatchet Men, Pirates of Blood River, and Rasputin: The Mad Monk (some true classics there, eh?). There's not enough known about The Resident yet for me to say that I'm truly interested, but with Lee involved, I'm at least very intrigued.

The great Lord of Hammer horror films returns....this movie is starting on the right track! Plus good old " Comedian " Jeffry Dean Morgan is in it, I believe he'll be around for the next 10 years in good movies...

Sounds promising, especially with Sir Christopher Lee being involved (once again) with the film company. The man is a classic and even with age, still an excellent actor!

Hammer Film Productions is a film production company based in the United Kingdom. First founded in 1934, the company is best known for a series of Gothic "Hammer Horror" films made from the mid-1950s until the 1970s. Hammer also produced science fiction, thrillers and comedies – and in later years, television series. Hammer films had low budgets, but nonetheless appeared lavish, making use of quality British actors and cleverly designed sets. During its most successful years, Hammer dominated the horror film market, enjoying worldwide distribution and considerable financial success. This success was due, in part, to distribution partnerships with major United States studios, such as Warner Brothers. During the late 1960s and 1970s the saturation of the horror film market by competitors and the loss of American funding forced changes to the previously lucrative Hammer-formula, with varying degrees of success. The company eventually ceased production in the mid-1980s and since then has remained in effective hibernation. But in 2000 the studio announced plans to begin making films again after it was bought by a consortium including advertising executive and art collector Charles Saatchi, but no films have been produced. In May 2007, the company behind the movies was sold again, this time to a group headed by Big Brother creator John de Mol. At least $50m (£25m) will be spent on new horror films after Hammer Film Productions was sold to Dutch consortium Cyrte Investments. The new owners have also acquired the Hammer group's film library. It's wonderful to hear that Hammer Films is immediately following up their new film THE WAKE WOOD with this project,and even more wonderful that Christopher Lee is involved with this film,for hopefully both of Hammer's newest outings will get some decent nationwide U.S. theatrical play.

Glad Hammer is back. Only makes me nostalgic for Peter Cushing's work as well. I think: Chris lee should get a special Oscar for lifetime achievement, and, if Hammer really wanted to introduce new audiences to the early films, how about reconstituting Curse of Frankenstein or Horror of Dracula in ROTOSCOPE, like was done for Waking Life and Scanner, Darkly. Something on the order of a "special edition."
