Disney Says Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Also Shooting Next Year

So apparently there's something going on in San Diego this weekend called Comic-Con. Whatever that is. But there sure does seem to be a lot of news spewing forth from its sweaty, crowded depths. ComingSoon sat down with Disney's Head of Production Oren Aviv yesterday to talk about, among other things, the fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. And the news is very good. "We're going to shoot Pirates 4 in April and May of next year," Aviv said. "We are going to release it hopefully in 2011." Pirates 4 would "hopefully be the first of another trilogy," he says, and would be shot by itself, not back-to-back again.

There's no word yet if director Gore Verbinski will be back again for Pirates 4, but Aviv does admit that the whole franchise needs a bit of scaling down. "It's important to get the story right and it's important to me to scale it down, because we can't get bigger," Aviv said. "The movies have subsequently gotten bigger and bigger and very complicated and they were satisfying on so many levels obviously, but I want to kind of reboot the whole thing and bring it down to its core, its essence, just characters." One thing's for certain, Captain Jack Sparrow will be swashbuckling his way back into theaters again come 2011. Are you excited?

I'd be excited if they focus the story on Barbossa and Sparrow. Add Mr. Gibbs, Cotton, Cotton's parrot, the midget, Pintel, Ragetti, and the two bumbling guards leave Will and Elizabeth out of it and we got it a show! Oh and don't forget the Jack the Monkey!

I am sorry dudes but for me this was really a ONE TIME movie that conked out after the first one! It was great to bring back a pirate movie but with no real action( sorry the actions scenes in the "Caribbean" movies may have excited kids but was not really for adults) and the overly complicated but not really interesting storylines killed it after the first movie. I am not trying to bash it I just really feel it is now a cash cow with no real substance or excitement.

I would love for another Pirates of the Caribbean. I love all of them sooo much!!!! But I think that Orlando Bloom should be in it, Johnny Depp is amazing but I think he needs to be side by side with Orlando Bloom. But Im just so happy that there will be another movie I also help that they can make the movie as good or even better as Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End. I just hope that all the old characters come back especially ORLANDO BLOOM!!!!!

im extremely excited for this but the way they said they have to scale it down doesnt really sound good it probably means they're going to make it not bigger and better but worse hope this movie is awesome love the pirates series

I liked all the Pirates movies, and I am a fan of Johnny Depp. But I really wish he would take a break from the movies for a bit. I mean, he is in "Public Enemies", he's in "Alice", then he will be in Tim Burton's vampire movie, and now he's possibly (or most definitely) returning in another Pirates movie? I'm growing tired of his face on screen. >.<

hopefully it wont suck like the second and third one. and i hope they dont put unecessary scenes like the cannibal island scene and the stupid davy jones' locker scene with all the jacks. they could have found a better way to find jack in the second one that didnt involve cannibals and the scene in the third one with all the jacks didnt need to be that long.

They don't have a director, and at the Public Enemies pressers Johnny Depp seemed to indicate there wasn't a finished script, and yet they're shooting in eight months? Don't they need to scout locations, build sets, and design costumes? All in eight months? And #22, that's a fan site, not a Disney site nor do they have connections with Disney, so I wouldn't book my tickets for that date. AWE opened on a Friday.

Caleb, They are going to try and make pirates of the caribbean 4 like pirates of the caribbean 1. Theres nothing to worry about, i don't think jerry bruckheimer will let pirates of the caribbean 4 get screwed up!, trust me!, he wont!. These pirates of the caribbean movies are already a big franchise, and even though they say they're going to scale the next pirates movies, they're actually going to get bigger, because people are going to get this movie to become very successful, i can just sell the money buliding up now!, milllions upon millions of dollars $$$$$$$$$$$$. And another good thing, is that this time, pirates of the caribbean 4, 5 and 6 will not be made back to back, but in seperate time insted!, which is even better, so that each new pirates of the caribbean movie is not rushed to get filmed and released so fast like what happened with pirates of the caribbean 2 and 3................

I can't wait to see Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow again! Jack Sparrow is the best character ever and Johnny Depp is making it that way. I don't want Will and Elizabeth to come back, because if the 4th film will focus more on characters I don't want to see their love story. If they will come again they should be characters with small roles or it'll be interesting to see Will as the captain of the Flying Dutchman. I think it's awsome to have Sparrow and Barbossa as enemies not, friends. Or maybe a new bad pirate. Any way you take it this will be a hell of a trilogy!

They're not going to overkill anything, this is going to be a fourth movie to the pirates of the caribbean disney movie franchise!, and they're going to to simply reboot it all, not overkill anything, theres no such thing in the history of movie franchises that are of that nature!, because then other wise it would not be called a "FRANCHISE!", in the first place!. See what i'm saying!. Multiple Movies + Sagas + Money = "BIG MOVIE FRANCHISE!."

Well, pirates of the caribbean 4 is going to start filming next year in 2010, and will come out in 2011. And thats because of how successfull all three of the previous pirates of the caribbean movie were in the box office, combined, and individually. Thats why pirates of the caribbean 4 is happening. The writers are already in the middle of writing the script and will be finished with it by the end of 2010 or so. So the filming in starting in march or april or may of 2010, and should be finished by the end of 2010, right before its theatrical release to movie theaters in mid-2011 !.

sorry, i ment to say that the writers will be finished with the script by the end of 2009, not 2010. 2010, is when they start filming, and then the movie comes out in 2011 to movie theaters ("hopefully").

There's no such thing as too much POTC and it's too depressing to think there would never be another round of Jack Sparrow and the world and characters that was created with this series. What other series has all the appeal of the sea, people we care about, great costumes and casting, and one of the best movie icons ever on screen? I'm ecstatic and thankful that Depp and co. are willing to do more (and I don't mind Keira being gone, haven't seen anything she has been in since POTC anyway, I think she's nuts not to want to be part of the fun). As for an earlier post about there being "too much Depp" - phhht - he's one of the few actors I can count on, scene-stealing devil that he is. I can't wait to see what they come up with - what's wrong with a "franchise" anyway? It's comforting to know when you spend 10$ ticket + snacks that you are going to settle in for a great time. Bring on POTC 4, 5, and 6!! I need more in my DVD collection for when everything on TV is just crap!

Yes You are right about that!. I also would like to have pirates of the caribbean 4, 5 and 6 in my movie collection too!, or well in my case, my blu ray disc dvds!. I'm a sucker for high defintion, thats why i buy mymovieson blu ray disc and watch them on my blu ray disc player and high defintion lcd tv!.

All over the net Friday about Variety reporting that Rob Marshall of "Chicago" fame is taking the director helm - I'm a little nervous about the lack of action films but if this guy is a choreographer isn't that what developing a sword fight on camera is? Plus all the humor in Chicago, so I'm thinking this is a good choice - it's also being reported that more casting is going on. At least Marshall can handle all the scrutiny, big names, and hype, and comes loaded with credentials.

Yeah!, i think the next set of pirates of the caribbean 4 movie updates we're going to be getting from here on the internet is its full theatrical release date!. Which i how that comes real soon, because now that we know its coming out in 2011 instead of 2012, i do have a feeling its going to be coming to movie theaters exactly on this date "may 25th, 2011 wednesday!.". Don't ask!, i just think i might be on to something here!, involving its theatrical release date.

I love all the pirates movies and I love Johnny Depp, especially as Capt. Jack Sparrow. Bring on #4 and as many sequels or prequels as you can find stories for. Shouldn't be hard, there have been so many unanswered questions. Pirates are the only movies that the whole family agrees on. My family and I look forward to each one. It is the only series we have found that is worth the prices at the movie theater, or sitting in uncomfortable seats and eating stale popcorn - anything to see it as soon as it comes out. Definitely need to keep Will and Elizabeth.

Gore Verbenski has to direct this movie. If he doesn't then it probably won't be near as good as 1 2 and 3. I hope they do it I'm so excited love the pirate movies. =) I also luv Jack Sparrow!!!!!!!!!!!

Whoops, Lizzie won't be back, as Keira has moved on, personally I'm fine with that - even the writers have said so, and SHE has said so - her choice. Don't know about Bloom. Have faith, Disney is going to take good care of its "treasure" aka POTC$$$ and its not like Rob Marshall (if he does direct) doesn't have outstanding credentials + Depp + Rush. Plus Depp seems to love playing Sparrow - it's not just another job to him - which translates to a good time on screen, instead of someone sleepwalking through their part.

I have got to say that i am so happy that this movie is going to be finally filming in 2010 for a 2011 theatrical release date, because yeah!, it's about time that we've started to hear that pirates of the caribbean 4 will happen and it's a good thing that they are starting give us all updates on pirates of the caribbean 4, because like me, there is alot of fans of this movie franchise, and i'm sure that they want to hear more about it too now, because its already been like over 2 years since the previous movie came out, and luckily in two years, soon to be in one year, we'll finally all get go and see pirates of the caribbean 4, which i think it may be called Pirates of the caribbean: The fountain of Youth, with johnny depp returning as captain jack sparrow and geoffrey rush returning as captain hector barbossa. No one else from the first three movies will apparently be returning, and along with jack, and barbossa, there is bound to be some new pirate characters in pirates of the caribbean 4, 5 and 6, which is why i think that, pirates of the caribbean 4, 5 and 6 may be a continuation of the first three movies, and spin-off movies at the same time.
