Emily Browning to Star in Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch
by Alex Billington
March 30, 2009
As we reported a few weeks ago, Mamma Mia star Amanda Seyfried, who was originally cast in Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch, wasn't able to take on the role due to a scheduling conflict. At the time, we didn't know who would replace her, but Entertainment Weekly is finally reporting that actress Emily Browning, of The Uninvited most recently, will star instead. Browning also appeared in Ghost Ship and Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. She will take on the lead role of Baby Doll, an insane asylum inmate who loses herself in a fantasy world where she dreams about escaping with her fellow inmates.
Unfortunately I haven't seen enough of Browning to say whether or not she's a good fit. I was a lot more confident in Snyder's original choice of Amanda Seyfried because she's a great actress and is really going to have to do a lot of hard work to play the lead. As in, Snyder is going to really put Browning to work, and she better be able to handle all the action and mayhem and still be able to act in the end. I guess it's also important that she is good looking, which I'd say Browning is, so at least she's got the looks! The supporting cast for Sucker Punch includes Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Evan Rachel Wood, and Emma Stone.
