Ewan McGregor and Carey Mulligan Join The Electric Slide

It's electric, boogie woogie, woogie! If you haven't already heard, the next big actress in Hollywood is not really Amber Heard, it's actually Carey Mulligan, a 23-year-old budding actress from England. She blew audiences away (including me) in Lone Scherfig's An Education at Sundance and is already getting awards buzz for her performance more than a year out. While she's also got a role in Michael Mann's Public Enemies and Jim Sheridan's Brothers, he first big job since all the Sundance buzz was just announced today. Mulligan is joining Ewan McGregor in a project called The Electric Slide (hence my choice of lyrics).
The Electric Slide is about the true story of Los Angeles furniture salesman turned bank robber Eddie Dodson. Dodson owned a high-end boutique furniture store on Melrose Avenue in the 1980s and lived the rich and famous Hollywood lifestyle. When he met his girlfriend he took the biggest risk to try and impress her by robbing a bank. It went so well that he went on to rob more than 72 banks in the LA area before the FBI finally caught him. "This is an amazing story," Myriad CEO Kirk D'Amico said. "It's just unbelievable the way this guy was able to rob bank after bank and always slipping away just before the FBI got there."
Ewan McGregor will play Eddie Dodson, while Carey Mulligan will play his girlfriend. Newcomer Tristan Patterson is making both his writing and directing debut. His screenplay is based on Tim Ford's Gear magazine article "The Yankee Bandit: The Life and Times of Eddie Dodson, World's Great Bank Robber." Although this is a somewhat smaller production, I'm really digging the story and the actors and will be following its development. Carey Mulligan really is a brilliant actress and its all about giving her the right roles. I'm not sure whether this is the standard "girlfriend" role , but it should still be interesting!
