Robin Hood Trailer!

This may be the first huge delightful surprise this month. Universal has just debuted the first international trailer for Ridley Scott's Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett (via ComingSoon). I'm not sure why I wasn't expecting much at the start, but man does this trailer kick some ass! It takes a little bit of time to get going, so give it a minute, but once it kicks in you'll be hyped for this thing until the end. I'm really glad to see Ridley Scott pumping up the Robin Hood fairytale with some grit and grime like this. It does look a little bit like Gladiator, but in the good epic way, not the deja vu way. Anyway, check this out!

Watch the first trailer for Ridley Scott's Robin Hood:

Follows Robin (Russell Crowe) from his early days in King Richard's army to his return to Nottingham to his creation of a band of mercenaries who challenge the sheriff and eventually try to prevent civil war.

Robin Hood is directed by British filmmaker Ridley Scott, of many classics like Alien, Blade Runner, Black Rain, G.I. Jane, Gladiator, Hannibal, Black Hawk Down, American Gangster, and many more. The script was written by Oscar winner Brian Helgeland, of L.A. Confidential, Conspiracy Theory, Mystic River, Man on Fire, Green Zone, and more. Universal is bringing Robin Hood to theaters starting on May 14th, 2010.

This Looks Absolutely Amazing(: I Think this has potential to be best Period Piece(:

Tony on Dec 14, 2009

Looks gay. Scott lost it years ago. Doubt this will be any better than Kingdom of Heaven - which by the way, was also gay.

Made Marion on Dec 14, 2009

Edwardrow on Dec 14, 2009

Bleh, WHO GIVES A SHIT, bet the Kevin Costner Robin Hood is still better.....Bring on the Clash of the Titans Trailer !!!

LORD MANTACO on Dec 14, 2009

Looks promsing indeed, but deffentially need to see some more. I do really like the fact that this is a R rated tale of Robin Hood and not some crappy Disney cash in. Should be really intresting to see where they take it.

wrongturn687 on Dec 14, 2009

It seems like a promising film, but that trailer was awful.

Mark on Dec 14, 2009

It'd be cool if there was one singing number n the middle just to lighten it up a little bit, always with the serious! just a wee dance Robin and piggyback from the Friar.

Crapola on Dec 14, 2009

WOW AWESOME! cant believe anyone can say this looks gay...btw #3 Kingdom of heavens Directors cut was equal to gladiator. Im so looking forward to a good non CGI driven epic. Scotts cinematography in some of these shots just awesome.

Cody on Dec 14, 2009

meh. not a great trailer, and bad song choice that makes me feel like I'm supposed to be impressed. I'm not.

dave13 on Dec 14, 2009

i hope this is good still, cuz that trailer was -.-

lego on Dec 14, 2009

Scott will forever have my respect for making Blade Runner, but this falls into the "meh" category.

Shane on Dec 14, 2009

Why is it all of a sudden cool to have rock music in period movies?

mojohand on Dec 14, 2009

Yeah #3 you're an idiot, The Kingdom of Heavens director's cut is amazing, and this is another Ridley Scott win.

Xerxex on Dec 14, 2009

Music sucks. No dialogue in the trailer sucks. Hopefully a better trailer will come out soon so i can forget I ever watched this trailer.

filmfan111 on Dec 14, 2009

Interesting. I'm not sure how I feel about robin hood being this BA. I like crow and I like scott so we'll see.

risk on Dec 15, 2009

All it needs is a Bryan Adams theme song

hale on Dec 15, 2009

dosen't really show a lot. But if Scott did it, I'm game.

Matthew Hansen on Dec 15, 2009

wtf... uhhh... this isn't robin hood. this is epic war movie with familiar name on title screen.

Dan the Fan on Dec 15, 2009

I liked the look of it, but I don't think it really shows us what to expect

moif on Dec 15, 2009

Worst trailer i have seen in a long time! This film doesn't deserve that shit!

pipo on Dec 15, 2009

I've already forgotten everything i just saw. crap trailer!

DoomCanoe on Dec 15, 2009

Nope, not sold.

Henjolo on Dec 15, 2009

Any scholars out there? Robin Hood-Hero Outlaw or Terrorist? Debate! Ah, and yeah, it looks OK ๐Ÿ™‚

David Banner on Dec 15, 2009

sometimes i think i have a mancrush on russel crowe

TB on Dec 15, 2009

Well, it certainly didn't look like Gladiator. It looked like Gladiator Lite. Meh.

Sleepykid on Dec 15, 2009

wtf is this piece of shit

qweqwu on Dec 15, 2009

i think it looks pretty good. i love period movies and this looks to have plenty of great action. i'm sure crowe and blanchett will give their usual brilliant performances......i just hope the story is just as good. and none of the haters above have ONE good reason why this movie is going to be bad. just more lame comments. i'm all for "free speech"...........just not "stupid speech". and to # 3........kingdom of heaven was a really good movie. and besides, with a name like "made marion" have NO room to talk about something being "gay". #6 - yea, i'm glad it's "R" too. i'm tired of "pg-13" movies being dumbed down for the teeny-boppers. #14 - exactly. too many of the people on here know NOTHING about movies. they just like to make fools of themselves. #15 - yea, i thought the music was the weak spot of that trailer. and, i'm hoping for another trailer that gives us some dialogue with an indication on what the focus of the plot will be about.

beavis on Dec 15, 2009

Ridley Scott..I'm there.

JimD on Dec 15, 2009

@ 28 Go fuck your mother, noob.

Made Marion on Dec 15, 2009

30 - Checkmate. lol I'll give you a slew of reasons why this trailer was poor, beavis. It didn't showcase anything new. It was rammed full of action sequences, most of which were on horses. It introduced 2 characters; who else seems relevant in this film? All I saw was violence, imagery, and text on the screen. If the point of this film is to deliver aggression and symbolize how Robin Hood is a war mongler, then mission accomplished. Aside from that, there is absolutely NO depth. NONE. Especially with this being "An International Trailer"? Not a teaser... it's piss poor in delivering any sort of hint at a story and feel. 20 & 22 coined this perfectly. forgettable.

Dan the Fan on Dec 15, 2009

the trailer wasnt that good but its russel crowe so im in

yojoe on Dec 15, 2009

not very "Men in Tights" is it? we'll see how it turns out I guess or at least wait for a longer trailer

-Peter- on Dec 15, 2009

WOW! This is my most anticipated flick for 2010 but even I wasn't expecting that. I'm in awe!!! That's was simply amazing! Definitley a much darker Robin Hood, which is the way it should be. One of my favorite directors and actors back together again. Gives me chills! Definitely a Gladiator feel and I kinda got a Seven feel from the music. Oh I can't F'in wait!!! Will be EPIC and KICK ASS! Are you not entertained!!!

K on Dec 15, 2009

#31 are talking about the trailer having no depth or the film? #21 Chill out!!!! It's the first trailer they've released, christ don't get so worked up about it! i'm sure there will be more! Made marion you're a plank!!! Ridley Scott has produced some of the most epic films ever! I know you're entitled to your opinion but i have to say it's pretty sh*t!! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Another thing actions speak louder than words!!! Don't always need speech!

marty on Dec 15, 2009

I am a fan of R. Scott, but by the way it looks, is going to draw too many comparisons to Gladiator and then fall flat for not being as good like kingdom of heaven did. The question is, can he truly top Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves? Lets face it, that movie had Morgan Freeman and a soundtrack by Bryan Adams. Lets just hope Russel Hood can do better.

almartva on Dec 15, 2009

Trailer is great, Music is not so good ... but Ridley and Russel together- iยดm in the boat!

Razor on Dec 15, 2009

Aiming for the Transformers 2 audience? Bang for the buck, scrap the story? Well, time will tell. Besides, anyone else with the impression that they cancelled post production on this one? Looks like straight from the camera. So far not my cup of tea.

Felix on Dec 15, 2009

Universal is always hit or miss on their trailers. This one is a miss, but I can definitely see evidence that this film will have greater intensity and acting than Robin Hoods of the past. It's good to see Ridley shifting away from modern day films to period pieces again. #38 is right. No post evidence in this. Just the camera without touch up.

Quanah on Dec 15, 2009

35 - trailer. i have yet to see the film to comment on it.

Dan the Fan on Dec 15, 2009

This had so much potential when it was going to be called "Nottingham" and told from the Sheriff's perspective. It's too bad the studio, Ridley, and all parties involved lost their balls and couldn't go through with an interesting new take on the story.

Sinnycal on Dec 15, 2009

Victor on Dec 15, 2009

This looks pretty awesome. I'm a big fan of Scott and his work, so I can't wait to see this one.

@ Crapola You'll be glad to know that they do sing in the film. They even did a cover of "beautiful girl" in between takes which should make it on the dvd extras.

Crew on Dec 15, 2009

Looks awesome~ R. Scott might have done the same thing with Robin Hood that A. Fuqua did with King Arthur - Retelling an old story with a new back-story and approach. On my list WAYYYYY above Avatar. Gonna be epic!

Antioch on Dec 15, 2009

If it wasnt for the title there would be no way of knowing what the movie is about, let alone a Robin Hood movie. I have hope, but the trailer is not a very good one.

Johnny Neat on Dec 15, 2009

what has the wolf got to do with Robin Hood, this trailer is lack luster to say how Robin Hood prince of thieves was, here hoping that forthcoming trailers or trailer is better than this teaser trailer Russel Crow looks alright as Robin Hood. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Cineprog on Dec 15, 2009

@ # 3 - Made Marion - I don't even know what to say to you, you're pathetic lol I leave it at that. the trailer could have been better I agree, not a very good first impression. Hopefully they'll bounce back and give us an epic trailer. Only time will tell. Anyway better then seeing little blue smurfs running around like in Avatar lol (imo )

And of course no british accent Robin Hood....

There's a lot of hate for this just being the first trailer. O.o I'm sure another longer one will come out. This made me interested though. I really like Ridley Scott.

Sabes on Dec 15, 2009

I don't know about this one but after watching this trailer i don't feel it anymore.

Fisherr on Dec 15, 2009

That was a GREAT song to have. This will be a kick ass flick for sure with Scott at the Helm and Crowe as the main actor. With all the negative comments on the music this must be a friggin Canadian site or some queers R' us site.... whats wrong with a good metal song when it's about blood - violence and by the looks of the broad SEX??

Nunya on Dec 15, 2009

as far as the dickhead that knocked Kingdom of Heaven that was one of the best movies ever imo - "GOD WILLS IT!!!"

Nunya on Dec 15, 2009

#28-i agree with everything you said. #3- u dont know dick about anything, made marion? who r u jennifer connely from requiem? u gotta be doin some dope to say something so stupid. As for robin hood, gladiator was an amazing epic movie-i think this tale will live up to the same golden globe expectations.

Online Guitar Tuition on Dec 15, 2009

Smacks of trying to do a 'Braveheart' with 'Robin Hood'. Not much going on for me in the trailer. However, Crowe & Scott always come up with the goods, wait and see I suppose.

Marty on Dec 15, 2009

Looks F'n kick ass! Compare it to past/present movies and story lines all you want...... but in the end it's more realistic and the story is entertaining. So you negative fu*ks do the the world a favor and kill yourselves!

I am Ron Burgundy? on Dec 15, 2009

hey "dan the fan" ......what "depth" do you want in a 2 minute teaser? and by the way; a movie can be well made and a fun watch without having depth. i enjoy many different movie genres/styles. you should broaden your movie preferences a little. and what's the problem with only showing a couple characters in a teaser? what? want them to show you the WHOLE movie plot?....... I DON"T! and as far as the action on screen? they show what will grab peoples attention. that's what teasers do. there will probably be a full trailer sometime before release with more character interaction. and if (like doom canoe) you've forgotten everything you just saw then you need to seek medical help for ADD. and "made marion"........ use using the term "gay" the way you did is offensive to many people. and i'm not even sure how you equate being "gay" to being a bad film. sounds kind of childish to me. and by the way: using the term "noob" is even more childish. is that the best reply you can come up with? at least "dan the fan" disagreed with me by offering some opinions..........grow up.

beavis on Dec 15, 2009

3- kingdom of heaven was awesome, gladiator was awesome, and this movie, is going to be awesome.

shaitanjr on Dec 15, 2009

# 82 ditto. and any of you who are "meh" or complaining about the trailer need not bother to post much like you your opinion does not matter. This movie looks promising and from what i have read and seen briefly hear is a new rendition of the robin hood film. you old grandparents can go watch your Kevin Costner classic. which was not bad dont get me wrong but it falls under fairy tail structure and lack of character design.

splinter on Dec 15, 2009

Ridley is a master of cinematography, his shots are just amazing. Looks good. Definitely in to hear this story and I hope it's a good one.

Shaun on Dec 15, 2009

GOD, please, please please! let there be no goofy scenes. thank you.

metalorn on Dec 15, 2009

Gladiator vs. Sheriff of Notingham? at some points in the trailer that's what it looks like, but never the less when it comes to Ridley & Russell you have to be intrigued. Russ isn't exactly a spring chicken anymore....Gladiator was 10 years ago. we'll see if he can still pull off this kind of roll.

chad on Dec 15, 2009

What the crap kind of music was that? Crappy trailer but Russell Crowe looks badass (as usual).

Kay on Dec 15, 2009

[insert story there]

Collin on Dec 15, 2009

Nothing wowed me. Actually, seemed like a B movie trailer and the only reason people would be hyped for this movie is the fact that Russell Crowe is in it and Ridley Scott is directing. Only thing I saw in this trailer was your obligatory explosion (action) scenes which weren't very good IMO.

Allen L. on Dec 15, 2009

It's going to be awesome! I can't wait to see this one! I like every movie ever! I'm hyped and pumped to see this one! Stoked, psyched, ripped!!

J on Dec 16, 2009

Don't like Russel Crowe. Bad choice for main rule. I'm so tired of same diredtor picking same actors in same characters. Hollywood need fresh blood. Meh trailer... just my opinion. Don't shoot me. I liked Kevin Costner and Bryan Adams theme :))) yes, I'm girl

Lilith on Dec 16, 2009

I love movies like this. I agree #93 that Russell Crowe wouldn't been my choice even though I think he's pretty good. Cate Blanchette is great, one of my favorites. Speaking of Kingdom of Heaven which was awesome, whatever happened to Orlando Bloom? Did he die in Elizabethtown? I think they killed him....

arjones on Dec 16, 2009

Ridley Scott's movies are pretty awesome. I am really excited for this movie! I have always liked the story of Robin Hood.

Eliza on Dec 16, 2009

oh for fuggs sake, stop whining about the intro and claim to be fans of the Scott! remember Alien trainer? huh? huh? HUH? all you got to see was egg, zoom in, egg starts opening. end of trailer. THAT WAS FUGGEN IT! now stop whining and grow a pair!

- 81 "and by the way; a movie can be well made and a fun watch without having depth. i enjoy many different movie genres/styles" translation: "I enjoy watching shallow fluff." ps: it's not a teaser, which I illustrated already. it's an international trailer, which is why more than just quick shots should be shown. look up the differences if it helps.

Dan the Fan on Dec 17, 2009

Ridley Scott is the king of epic films, Russell Crowe seems great as Robin Hood, maybe he will add a little of Maximus to this new character.

deja vu was tony scott. not ridley. this looks amazing.

chaz on Dec 18, 2009

Every friggin' trailer is the same; pulsing rock song in the background? check! rapid-fire quick cuts so you can't see anything for more than 1/2 a second? check! slo-mo fight sequence? check! god this looks like a million other action movies, and very much like Gladiator. Yes Ridley Scott has made good movies in the past, but this lacks anything we haven't seen a thousand times before. I will pass on this one.

Dave on Dec 18, 2009

is will be amazing movie, i hope

affilrev on Dec 19, 2009

To #102 Yes, I believe our opinions are important, because we paying ticket. I like this kind of movies, but I dont llike Russell Crowe ergo probably not going to watch. But again, I like Cate Blanchett, so my urge to see her acting is greater than my unwillingness not to see Crowe's, *lol so confused*

lilith on Dec 21, 2009

Ill see it for Mark Strong.

Cody on Dec 23, 2009

Why is everyone complaining about the music? I think Scott is trying to make a more badass version of Robin Hood and the music in this trailer certainly gives it a badass feel. Couldn't have been better in my opinion.
