LeBron James' More Than a Game Documentary Trailer

I saw this trailer for the first time last weekend, but it played after the Facing Ali trailer, so it really didn't look that great in comparison. However, I've received numerous e-mails from readers urging me to write about it anyway, so here it is. More Than a Game is a documentary made by Kristopher Belman about basketball superstar LeBron James aka "The Chosen One" and his four high school friends dubbed the "Fab Five." It follows their childhood friendship together and victory at the high school national championship. It's much less about LeBron and his stardom today, and more about how he got to that point and his story.

Five talented young basketball players from Akron, Ohio star in this remarkable true-life coming of age story about friendship and loyalty in the face of great adversity. Coached by a charismatic but inexperienced player's father, and led by future NBA superstar LeBron James, the "Fab Five's" nine-year journey leads them from an inner-city gym to the doorstep of a national high school championship.

More Than a Game is directed by first-time filmmaker Kristopher Belman. Certain parts of the film were written by either Kristopher Belman or Brad Hogan. This first premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival late last year. Lionsgate is bringing More Than a Game to theaters starting on October 2nd.

I don't get it... Lebron has been in the league for many years now. He's an NBA veteran. What, have the filmmakers been in post this whole time?

Leeloo, For one thing, Kris started this project for his documentary class his junior of college. It was only supposed to be 10 minutes long, but once he started filming, he felt it could be made into a full length film. After graduating, he didn't want to give up on the project, so he started to look for funding. Eventually after a couple of years, he teamed up with Harvey Mason. They were still shooting footage for this up until 2007, maybe even '08, not 100% on that, but definitely '07. Plus movies take forever to get made in Hollywood, especially when it's from a first time director. Basketball fan or not, definitely go see this when it comes out. I saw an advanced screening last month at Endeavor and it doesn't disappoint! Plus it got second to a little film called Slumdog Millionaire for the Cadillac People's Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival last year, so you know it's good.

Lebron James, the future of the NBA. Im going to watch this just because it focuses more on his high school team and his teammates than his personal life.

i've seen this doc 3x and still get chills watching the trailer. its true, it was a school project for kris and then he kept pushing to make it a feature just based on a gut feeling that they had something special. its a better version of hoop dreams but not because its lebron but because the guys are in it together as opposed to being dual stories. i honestly don't know a single person who has seen it who didn't love it. frankly, no trailer can do it justice. trust me. check it out.
