Mickey Rourke on His Iron Man 2 Character Whiplash

Marvel has been keeping a very tight lid on the Iron Man 2 set, give or take Jon Favreau's tweets, not much is making out, which may be a very good thing in the end. But one person that has been talking briefly about his character is Mickey Rourke, the comeback king of last year who has a role as the villain Whiplash in the sequel. There was an update from Empire a few weeks ago that I'm combining with these very short quotes from The Guardian, who recently talked with him as well. So do you want to hear one of his lines? "If someone kills me, don't wake me up, because I'd rather be dead than live in your world."

I don't really know if that's one of his lines or not, but Rourke did tell The Guardian that he "decided to do half [of his] role in Russian" and has been training with a dialect coach. That was one of only four sentences he said he had learned after two weeks. And speaking of his character Whiplash, this is the description that Rourke gave Empire in a previous update a few weeks ago. "It's been really brutal, because my Iron Man suit weighs 23lb. It's sort of a half-suit, with half my skin showing, with lots of Russian tattoos, because [Whiplash is just] out of a Russian-zone prison." Does that sound something like a badass villain to you?

It's a bit hard to picture that suit from such a skimpy description, but I like the sound of it so far. This is starting to turn out pretty awesome and I can't wait to see what Rourke is like in this role. If you want to read more from Rourke or Favreau, head over to The Guardian or Empire. you don't have to sell me, after watching sin city for the first time i have faith that Rourke can play any dark, bad ass, character that he wants to be. im not worried in the least.

I could do without Rourke in this movie, to be honest I didn't really like any of the new casting decisions.

Rourke will rock in this role. He researches his roles unlike some other actors.

Rourke will do well for this role as for the female actor cast for this film i have serious doubts but this will be a great film

He also says that he doesn't really like the superhero movie genre very much (it seems like some people don't like mentioning that part) you and me both Mickey. I like Batman, Batman Begins, & The Dark Knight (that's not a great ratio). Hopefully Iron Man 2 is good, hopefully he's good in it too (just saw Killshot, he's not so good in that.

The exposed skin may be covered up with CGI components in post-production. It is not always practical to have an actor wear a full armored suit especially since the construction of one can be very expensive. Just the engineering fees to ensure "full range of movement" can be difficult enough to swallow. RDJ wore "partial suits" too many times for Iron Man.

How on the earth can they take such a stupid looking character and expect to continue where Iron Man 1 left off where such a high level of realism was enforced. This will just make for silly child watching.
