Mike Newell in Talks to Direct Disney's The Lone Ranger?
Some news on Disney's The Lone Ranger, finally! The last time we heard anything about this was last year at a big Disney presentation in Hollywood. There they announced that not only would Johnny Depp be back to play Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean 4, but that Depp would also play Tonto in the upcoming Lone Ranger movie. But since then, we haven't heard a peep. Well, according to a Twitter update from Production Weekly, Mike Newell is "in talks" to take the reigns of Lone Ranger. Newell, who previously directed Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, is currently finishing Prince of Persia for Disney.
There's not much else we currently know about Disney's version of The Lone Ranger, except that the script was written by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio (of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies previously) and it's being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer (so expect something quite big). I've been anxious to get a glimpse of Prince of Persia, because that'll be the determining factor on if I continue to think of him as a great director. I think he's done a fairly good job so far with a few movies, and I liked Goblet of Fire, but he needs to show that he can kick ass with a video game movie to really impress me. Anyone excited for Lone Ranger?
