Must Watch: Brand New TV Spot for Star Trek!

Brand New TV Spot for Star Trek

Paramount has unveiled a new TV spot for Star Trek today, to go along with the epic new trailer we saw a few weeks ago and the Super Bowl TV spot we saw back in February. There are a couple of new scenes and some footage we haven't seen yet, which is always exciting, but I'm not particularly a fan of this TV spot. I think Paramount has officially kicked off their big marketing campaign that will get non-geek mainstream audiences interested in Trek and the choice of music in this trailer is their first indication that they want more than just the nerdy audiences. It's an understandable desire, of course, but will they pull it off?

A chronicle of the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow USS Enterprise crew members.

Star Trek is directed by J.J. Abrams (of "Lost" and Mission: Impossible III) and is written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (of The Island, Mission: Impossible III, Transformers, and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen). This is the 11th movie in the Star Trek universe, following most recently Star Trek: Nemesis in 2002. Star Trek is set to land in theaters everywhere on May 8th, 2009 this summer!

  • I like the look of this, not to fussed about Star Trek the series. But I'd go to the cinema to watch it.

''I just want to go to the midnight showing to see the Trekkies!!!!'' Man, they're spooky... ; ) J.J.'s Star Trek is my new favorite after Watchmen (9/10) and I can't wait to see it (May 7th here in Europe! Ha! XD)...After that, it's going to be a bumpy fucking summer...Terminator Salvation, Up, Drag Me To Hell, Public Enemies, Transformers 2 (Ok, nope...but Megan Fox is damn hot so...probably), Where The Wild Things Are, 9, Sherlock Holmes, Lovely Bones...Jesus... And AVATAR after all that movie chaos... Yes!!!!

If they are going to make Mass Effect the movie, it should look like this
  • I can see what you're saying about how they're advertising it to just more than geeky fanbase. Abrams did say he's not making this for the fans of star trek, but for fans of movies. I think they'll be a huge contender for this summer's blockbusters

Captain Kirk is already shaping out to be a much more empathetic character than he ever was in the series OR in the movies. That will be the test of this film's ability to pull in new fans: whether or not the central character's story, irregardless of previous incarnations, is relatable, charismatic, and has an intriguing, involving story arc. End of story. But yeah - I'd say I'm psyched for this. Will see it with my brother, in memory of our father - big Trek fan who passed last year - most likely.

hey m4st4, lovely bones is not coming out this summer. i promise. it's not completed, let alone is it a summer movie. if it's finished in time, it'll get an end of the year release, if not, don't expect to see it until late 2010. as far as this tv spot goes, it's a mess. it's a series of incomplete thoughts and music that doesn't get used to its potential. not that it should. i feel like the music in this spot is trying too hard to be terminator salvation or watchmen. trek was doing fine with the big orchestral music, no need to switch gears just for tv. that doesn't mean they need to use the trailer 3 music for every spot, but going agro industrial just doesn't feel right. with that said, i'm still really excited for the movie, and i hope i haven't changed anyone's decision on seeing the movie.

#25 Well, off course, it's a 'regular' Oscar movie...Sherlock is also coming this fall, Green Zone, Wild Things etc...

My love for Trek stopped after Star Trek VI came out in 1991. It has been 18 years of Star Trek Crap and now the franchise is about to reborn in a very big way. Thankyou J.J. Abrams. You have made the kid in me come out again.

I hate TV spots but this movie looks awesome.
