Facing Ali Trailer

Wow, this certainly came out of nowhere! A fantastic new trailer for a documentary about legendary boxer Muhammad Ali called Facing Ali has debuted on Apple today. I actually saw this for the first time in theaters last night before Crank: High Voltage, and it looked incredible on the big screen. I, of course, knew about the Mike Tyson doc, but hadn't heard of this at all until last night, and was stunned. It looks pretty incredible, and I'd much rather watch this than anything about Tyson. I think Ali's life story is a bit more remarkable and this doc looks like it will be an unforgettable look at one of the greatest athletes ever.

Three-time World Heavyweight Champion Muhammad Ali defeated almost every top fighter of the golden age of boxing and symbolized the sport for generations of fans. Now, ten of his acclaimed rivals pay tribute to perhaps the world’s most beloved and inspiring athlete in Pete McCormack's Facing Ali.

Facing Ali is directed by filmmaker Pete McCormack, of See Grace Fly and Uganda Rising previously. This documentary includes appearances by George Foreman, Larry Holmes, Earnie Shavers, George Chuvalo, Sir Henry Cooper, and Joe Frazier, among many others. Lionsgate is distributing Facing Ali with SpikeTV, but hasn't set a theatrical release date for this yet. Stay tuned for more updates on Facing Ali as they arrive!

I would recommend watching the HBO documentary, "Thrilla In Manila" which chronicled the Frazier-Ali conflicts. Most people believe Ali was some righteuous boxer, but when watching "Thrilla in Manila" another side of Ali is shown. When Ali decided he wasn't going to fight in the Vietnam War, Frazier helped him out financially and called for a fight with Ali so he could prove he was the heavy-wight champion of the world. When Ali was given the chance to step back in the ring, he basically spat in Frazier's face and slandered his name. Muhammad Ali turned into such a dick I could not believe what I was watching. Ali's image will forever be tarnished in my mind for the way he acted during that time in the 70's. Also, "We Were Kings" is another good Ali documentary.

agreed with #2. i was almost done typing the same thing when i read what you wrote.. it'll be interesting to see what Frasier has to say in this documentary.

Ali Forever! The looks of him at the end of trailer, explains everthing... look into his eyes. you'll see what is destiny!

"Tyson" seems the better film in my opinion that documentary was so damn amazing
  • sean
Will Smith did NOT do him justice.
  • kitano0
Agree with David..."We Were Kings" is a fantastic documentary. I think Will Smith was very good as Ali, the movie was just a rare Michael Mann misfire. I thought it lacked a good narrative structure.
  • dave13
wow, that looks amazing. very interesting and likely insightful way of looking at Ali. gotta see it.
  • GM
Oh MAN another Ali Film.... aren't there like 50 around???!! fuck off...and find a new subject!!! damn copy cat
  • Curtis
that came out of nowhere and it looks incredible all i can say is wow!
  • Brandon
Completely agree with #2. Ali is still a great fighter though. Anyone have any idea what song plays during this trailer? That song gets me pumped up!
  • Gene
Well, there are hundreds of Ali doc's out there already. I'm a bit more excited to see TYSON because it's a story that most don't really understand. I hope both tell the story with an unbiased view, which is hard to do witha documentary. You gotta love the great American heavyweight championship, they cross the lines of sports and define a generation. Johnson, Dempsey, Louis, Marciano, Ali, Foreman, and Tyson. You can make a great bio pic about each because they represent a piece of American history.

Love that Chuvalo's in this one.
  • defeatedfrog
Ali was and is, the greatest. Anyone who takes his "schtick" seriously doesn't know Ali. Yes, at times, he crossed a line but it was all done to "tendrize the meat" before the fight. As a kid, I saw everyone of his fights and even though it's a brutal sport, Ali's fights were beautiful things to watch. I just wish he stayed out of the ring when his time had passed.
  • 9mm
@12 Foreman was champ all of what? 12 months his first go around? You should have Holmes there in between Ali and Tyson. Poor Holmes never gets any love lol...
  • Jarrod
Obviously you forget Ali AKA Cassius Marcellus Clay; dogged the draft in 1966 by claiming the "bullshit religion" of Islam as his scapegoat and he was a womanizing piece of shit. Some American hero....NOT
  • 9mm
lol? I would have dodged the draft too if it meant not going off to attack some poor farmers for no good reason. Not to mention the fact that blacks were being sent overseas to give the viets rights that many didn't even have here in America. You probably don't think that MLK isn't a Hero either because he organized protests that caused massive civil disobedience.
  • Dan
anyone know the name of the song that plays in this trailer? thx
  • Jarrod
Well "9mm" you must believe in Muhammad or some similar dumb ass god where it's okay to kill innocent people for no reason as well... I believe you would dodge the draft just like you can't post your REAL NAME...oh wait 50 Cent is a real name too? Right? Ha.. And NO I don't think MLK was a hero even though we as Americans are subjected to recognize his holiday and an entire month of African American bullshit!!! Where's the "White History Month"..."Miss White America"..."W.E.T. White Entertainment Television" and so on BRO. I think I can stop there. Enjoy your "Facing Ali" when it comes out and BTW...you're welcome for Abraham Lincoln setting you free! <:-)

In response to #2.... Ali said those cruel things about Joe to sell tickets, he has stated numerous times on the record that he was wrong for that.
  • Ryan
This looks like a fantastic film! I can't wait to see it. Oh, and that jarrod dude is an ass-hat racist hillbilly goat humper. Do you even know WHY we were in Viet-nam you fascist little cock smoker? Get your head out of Bill O'reilley's poop chute and read a frickin' book! Start with the lie that was the "Gulf of Tonkin incident" and figure out some shit... BTW Mohammad is not Islam's "god" they have the same "god" as the Christians and The Jews you inbred bigoted douche.
  • Chris
The doc isn't so much about Ali as the moments and madness of the men he fought. It looks amazing and I look forward to hearing the other side of the chatter from the men who faced Ali.
  • Hula
Ryan you are cracking me up! that Jarrod dude.....wow. It is amazing to me how ignorant and angry some people are. The problem is, he can read a book, but it wont change how he thinks. He will interpret it in his own way. Jarrod you are all that is wrong with our world today my friend! Stay away from alcohol and start taking prozac. BTW, if Jarrod lived in the civil wars days...he would have been one of the guys trying to assassinate Lincoln.
  • Nikhil Hariharan
Float like a butterfly, Sting like a bee, hes the one, the great Muhammad Ali! I cant wait to see this documentary, and the trailer was really good.
  • eddie
this is going to be a great film. but does anyone know the artist and song title of the song playing in the background?
  • ok this looks like a bad ass movie. looks good and all but i think im seeing some pissy little bitch talkin bout christians and muslims. yeah im talkin to ryan up there on his liberal white horse sharing the wealth and bullshit. reading a book will not change a damn thing. yeah he was way off with muhammad being the islamic god but dont come here talkin like you are the great and righteous man here to set everything straight. now if your referring to all of us southerners(not knowing if jarrod is from the south) being inbred bigots, well then fuck you. and by the way this goes out to anyone who wants to know, lincoln was a bigot i shit you not. he gave a speach talkin bout the blacks being inferrior to the whites and even planned to have them taken back to africa because of their race, so fuck lincoln. and if people still think we invaded vietnam WE DID NOT! we came in when the war had already started to protect democracy and fought for the south and then we bitched out because of all YOU hippies and black panthers. i respect muhammad ali as a person and as a great pugilist(THAT MEANS BOXER!). i respect all races and all religions so you can suck it! now dont attack the O'reilley and the conservatives and dont post some lame ass coment without me knowing cause im probably not coming back to this site. email me if you even have the balls. enjoy! p.s. screw obama and his smart ass cabinet
  • jobrony
the song is fight-future world music
  • Marshal
Thing is Ali was truely a legend and was bigger than boxing, whatever your religious beliefs everyone has to agree for an athlete to give up boxing in his prime for something he beileved in and to make a stand when most were against him that takes balls! Now look at all the boxing personalties after Ali and tell me they make a difference outside the ring too! Dont turn this comment box into a religous argument its about a movie!
  • joe
Muhammad Ali... the biggest coward bitch pussy of all time.
