Surrogates Trailer

Disney has debuted the first official trailer for the new Bruce Willis sci-fi thriller Surrogates. Directed by former Terminator 3 director Jonathan Mostow, the movie is about a future where humans interact using surrogate robots while staying in the comfort of their homes. It's a very action-oriented popcorn flick and, to be honest, it doesn't look that great. It may have some good looking effects, but the action looks bad, or at least the scenes I've seen that they're hiding in the trailer were bad. This may just be a well edited trailer, but in the end I still don't think it will be good. Give it a shot and let us know what you think anyway.

Set in a futuristic world where humans live in isolation and interact through surrogate robots, a cop is forced to leave his home for the first time in years to investigate the murders of others' surrogates.

Surrogates is directed by action filmmaker Jonathan Mostow, of Breakdown, U-571, and Terminator 3 previously. The script was written by writing duo Michael Ferris and John D. Brancato, of The Net, The Game, Terminator 3, and Catwoman previously. The film is based on Robert Venditti's graphic novel of the same name. Disney will be bringing Surrogates to theaters everywhere on September 25th this year.

    looks great

Sweet! Looks like IRobot a little bit with Bruce instead of will smith.
  • Julius
Looks like a smart action flick. I'll be seeing that for sure.
  • haha wtf,this is disney?!
  • pimp on a stick
it looks good, but i'm confused -- Title for this article says "MUST WATCH" but then the guy says the trailer doesn't look that good...?
  • xerxex
pimp on a stick he does it a lot. In the end this will be a movie for a small group of people, and I'm gonna be in that group!
  • Boris Van Der Ree
YAY ROBOT MOVIES! Finally after the catastrophe that made Asimov turn over in his grave, we get a movie that might do the robot genre some good. Looks like a combination of The Matrix, and Bicentennial Man. I am also getting a Psychological Thriller kind of vibe. Also, I'm glad robots are coming back into fashion with Cylons having just made their final TV appearance, a new Terminator movie coming up, and don't forget Sleep Dealer.
  • Al
i dont know how this could be considered bad? considering this has at least some smart theories on the advancement of technology leading to some physical set backs for humanity, and other stuff you actually like alex, are just robots blowing up other robots.
  • jman571
Wow, that's such an amazing concept, I love it. Why the hate Alex? I just don't see what was so bad about this?
  • buonna notte
I think this movie looks pretty damn interesting.......but thats just me.
  • NIce
alex, why do you shoot everything down. I understand that some movies do suck, but it seems that ever movie you comment on you say "Im not impressed" or "This doesnt look that great" Why? Ca't you just go to a movie and enjoy and not have to critic it?
  • ray
got to agree #10....looks pretty good, looks decent at the very least
  • ray
damn, would u imagine steven seagal in this, my goodness! it would rule! he wouldn't even need a machine, he is one! HAHAHAHA
  • Why is it a must watch then? If you don't think this is going to be any good.
  • Derek
I dont know, the concept is cool and the trailer doesnt make it look that bad but I have a bad feeling that it will be a bad film...upsetting.
  • rblitz7
@5 it's a must watch because it's a big budget action movie which brings the usual bit of hype and anticipation so people are undoubtedly looking forward to the it stars Bruce Willis. Just cause Alex didn't like it doesn't mean other people won't like it either.
  • Squiggly
Doesn't look too bad at all. I have to give them credit at least for making a film that isn't a carbon copy of all the other sci-fi films out there, though the argument could be made that this would basically be some kind of mix between The Matrix and I Robot... But in reverse, sort of. Instead of I Robot's single robot, or the Matrix's single super-human character, this seems to have one guy who's NOT a robot... might make for some tense situations at least.
  • Jon
This looks incredible! I can't believe you don't think it will be any good. I'm actually going to have to check out the source material now. Definitely excited for this.
  • Syphous
I dunno, I'm with Alex. This didn't really impress me. I can't even point out why exactly... maybe because I feel like they've shown me too much in the trailer? Or maybe I'm just not enough of a robot enthusiast. It will find an audience though, that's for sure.
  • moviekidmike
THE MATRIX anyone!!!!! This is the SAME MOVIE!!!!
  • TheCakeIsReal
    Mediocrity at it's best...
  • felipe
looks interesting....just a bit annoying the number of times the word "surrogate" is said on it. but obvisously just the 2min trailer..........still wanting to see it when it comes out.
  • whomever
    I can dig it.
  • It doesn't look bad. More interesting, I'd say. I'm surprised that this is a Disney movie though...
  • Pebbles
I actually thought think this looks pretty good, much better then my expectations.
  • wm
Strange Days meets Total Recall Recall Recall.
  • PinkSushi
mmmm, i dunno .... dont convince me, i practically see the whole plot through the trailer.... the special effect look bit weak in few scenes,
  • ?????
    doesnt look so bad...
  • leiner
The original idea (the one the graphic novel is based on) must be Isaac Asimov's work. Great books, you all should read them. I don't know why is all the "the action sequences are bad" "this doesn't look good" thing. I just saw the trailer and it actually looks pretty good! Besides, who can pull off the character of the beaten-underdog-cop as good ol' Bruce Willis?? Come on!
  • J.D.
    Looks good!
  • James
Looks very similar to Minority Report if you ask me.
  • BONO
Love these type of movies... Bruce usually picks them right when it comes to Sci Fi movies... but since T3 sucked so bad, I'm nervous.
  • Awesome! I'm totally up for seeing this! Go Bruce! Jersey Represent!
  • Major Kusanagi
    Ghost in the Shell....
  • Actually, this looks really good. A lot better than I thought it would be. I'll be checking this out!
  • Scott McHenry
I would never do a movie that was written by the guys who made Catwoman
  • Dan the Fan
@36 - HAHA! Protip! It looks like a cool premise... something a bit fresh, and a neat spin on how people are so involved with technology these days... but it still looks so cheesy.
  • Last Son
Alex, maybe it's the memory of Terminator 3 that had you not thinking that this would be not so good. But I actually think this looks interesting. It puts a spin on the common Robot story. Who would have thought that I'd be watching a trailer for a film that was not a reboot or a remake.
  • Stevo
Looks pretty cool. Good to see Bruce Willis back.
  • don
it looks rushed... they should have spent another year on it and made it mega robotasitc
  • Squiggly
@27 Pink Sushi: Effects you see in trailers are rarely ever finished effects. They're just quick stand-ins that are somewhat polished up, but not final or anything. The Hulk movie a while back is a good example. They had clips of the Hulk fighting that other big dude, and in the film version there were a lot more details and the shaders, materials, lighting, etc had all been polished up and more little doodads were added. They basically plan the trailer early on and then specifically shoot those scenes first with the intetion that they will be able to work on the film for a while while those scenes are getting the most work due to their being needed for the trailer. They cut it together when the effects are at a passable state and then continue to polish them as they go. It's one of the things I'm really hoping they improve in the GI Joe film vs it's trailer. The other thing I hope they improve is the acting and plot (apparent plot....), as the trailers also make those look like ass as well. Actually, yeah... GI Joe is gonna be a fucking awful movie.
  • JimD
This is actually might be good.
  • brian barajas
looks good to me, from what ive seen so far, ill be in line for this.
  • Hercie
Was that C3P0's lovechild I saw?
  • justice
    Looks good actually. I'm in!
  • Paul
Oh no !! They changed the story. The comic -is not- an action flic that is why I am surprised they took this road. Let's see how it plays out.
  • Dude
Its a Disney Movie Enuff said. Disney + Psychological Thriller+ Live Action = FAIL!
  • K
Very cool! Absolutely NOTHING wrong with that trailer. Looks like a fun time and great to see Mr Willis back in action. He will be kickin some ass as usual. That write up is ridiculous! You said it's must watch and then trash it. You do that a lot. WTF?? Oh and on a side note which I'm pissed at FS about. I submitted this to you 3 times our your contact us form and for whatever reason it was completely ignored. WTF up with that!? Now this looks like a great, fun flick. Post this please n thanks. What's the point of running a movie site if you don't post all things movies? You should be posting anything and everything movies whether it be an Oscar contender or a silly B flick.
  • Blue & Orange NY
well what catches my eye and correct me if I'm wrong BUT DISNEY? LOL I can't believe that lol
  • Don't be so harsh Alex... It looks kinda a cool!!
  • Sean
Because Terminator 3 and Catwoman were such great movies...
  • Fercho
I can't believe that this is a Disney movie, is wide out if their standards. But we all know that a good action-fiction movie brings a lot of money, maybe they are running out of ideas for animation or their Hanah Montana, Wicked Mountain craps does not work good at the box office. Maybe..they are exploring new options, like action. Why not?...maybe in a future we can see more action flicks from them. Greetings from Mexico!!
  • Moviegimp
The trailer looks pretty sweet. Definitely concerned with this having the director of T3 and writer of Catwoman attached. The trailer may be the best thing about the movie, I guess we'll see. The concept of the story is very interesting though. Life without consequence. Surrogates make you a superhero and you can eat whatever you want and not get fat I guess, do robots eat I wonder, have sex and not worry. It's what many many people would want life to be. I'm surprised that there doesn't seem to be any religious angle to this. Maybe that just isn't in this story but it would seem in a world like this that religious people would be up in arms over this kind of lifestyle. Anyway though dystopian future, I'm there.
  • TheSaint
It looks good but if Disney is putting this out.......I don't know. judging from the fact that it's against robots I don't think that there will be any blood but I'm also on the fence as far as the action in this flick I have to know what rating this is going to get before I make an opinion.
  • Trey
    I will be there!
  • JussHaten
This movie kind of reminds me of Last Days
  • Nisshan
Why oh why did they change the story.... the comic was amazing don't change good thing. I really hope their get right, maybe their put all the action trailer
  • Thomas
Typical Will Smithish movie, I'm glad he isn't in it. I'll think it looks ok.
  • sleepykid
Looks like what it probably is: hokey, popcorn fun. What the hell, count me in.
wooow is the type of movie I expected matrix similar story
  • Looks good.
  • I Wants Big Boom
Its Second Life the MOVIE!!!! Hahah had to say it.
  • "The action looks bad"? Why, Alex? Because unlike most action movies made in the last ten years we can actually see what the hell is going on?! Seems blissfully free of extreme-closeup-shaky-cam, which is a big plus in my book. Yes, the writers have their names on a few stinkers, but why not be more positive; remember (as stated in the news item) that they also wrote the excellent little thriller The Game for David Fincher? This might turn out to be one of their good ones. (Fingers crossed.) And folks, don't hold T3 against Mostow forever - he also made Breakdown, which is a brilliant edge of the seat Duel-style flick. Maybe one day he'll live up to the promise he showed with that movie.
  • mrmr
so..... its like that site, second life(which i just found was actually real thanks to mtv: true life, besides the fact that i saw it on CSI a year ago) sorry.... tangent. so its like second life, in real life, with robots who get nasty in night clubs. well... real life in the movies. you know what im trying to say.
looks good im excited!!! Its a sure winner
  • smacky

  • Otacon
that plaid shirt Bruce Willis has on at the end? i totally have that shirt. its from American Eagle =]
  • SuicidalOptimist
Looks like a mix between Minority Report and I, Robot. But instead of looney toon Tom Cruise it has Bruce Willis in it. And he is still a badass, and a good reason for me to give this a shot.
  • mercury
another out of life movie sigh...
  • Fisherr
I Robot with Willis in the front seat.
  • Meatcarnage
  • geneguru
@20 I have to agree about the matrix comment but ill stil be there!!! looks gud
  • Case
seems like the reviews are starting to fall off on this website for some reason... i enjoy the availability of the trailers, but the reviews are hardly making any sense these days, constantly contradicting and seemingly hopeless.
  • Eric
    holy shit... this looks AMAZING
  • lando
This looks like a fun and interesting movie! The Matrix? HELL NO!!!! Dont doom this movie by comparing it to that pile of crap.... the idea of surrogates or "remote operated" self avatars was around way PRE matrix... matrix..sheeesh..give me a break!!!
  • Susana
i think it looks like it could be good, and i hope so!
  • Matt
    So Matrix huh?
  • lando
" I am Neo, I am here to save the world" "Dude" lol.... yea, looks the same eh?
  • vegasdanny
I hate bruce willis with hair! Why does he always have to have a wig that never looks real?! does he look like a swedish blonde hippy?? Er.....................NO! apart from that i think this will pass a couple of hours...nothing more.
  • chuck
I don't know about any graphic novel but this is taken almost completly from Keith Laumer's short story "The Body Builders". Read it you will definitly agree. Chuck
  • icey b
Basically all those with surveys are total bull crap , full of viruses and ad's spammers, dispite that I managed to find this movie here at this adress But leave it for 10 it takes a while to buffer.
  • george
disney!?!?!?!?!? looks more like an R rated adults only action flick! Im there!
  • Bruce Willis has not played in a long time SF film. I am glad that you reminded of this species.
  • Lando Calrizzle (for Rizzle)
Man, this looks NOTHING LIKE iRobot!!! the concepts remind me of Masamune Shirows writings on remotes and built in wireless webs..(ghost in the shell comics get into it in greater depth) looks like a fun thriller with a bit of Isaac Asimov (most futurism gives some credit to Isaac Asimov's work, but much has been expanded since and deserves further exploitation in sci fi --thats my job.)
  • Cell
Looks cool. Its a matrix scenario done in a live-action video game of 2nd Life. I definitely won't miss it.
  • Eugene Gonzalez
Anything with Bruce Willis' signature is always the BEST.
  • Eugene Gonzalez
Any movie with Bruce Willis is always the BEST.
  • Eugene Gonzalez
Hey Bruce call me, I want to be in one of your movies one of these days man
  • Barbara
Did I see Valerie Azlynn in that trailer? She's become one of my favorites. Was it really her? What part does Ms. Azlynn play? I cannot wait to see this movie!
  • Hsa
I am definitely looking forward to this movie. By the preview it looks like a combination of science and medicine to produce these clones that ends up somehow turning on their host.
  • Barbara
THRILLED to see this trailer. It looks like it will be a great movie. How can you not delight in Bruce Willis and these other stars figuring out how to stop their clones from destroying humanity? I'll be there on opening night! I wish I could have been IN the movie, but watching will have to do.
  • Nice, Bruce and robots. What do You want more from sci-fi. I`d watch regardless of imdb rank.
  • This film was shit.
