Salt Teaser Trailer

Sony has debuted the teaser trailer for Salt, starring Angelina Jolie and directed by Phillip Noyce, their big action movie due out next July. So instead of Wanted this summer, we'll be seeing Angelina Jolie become a female Jason Bourne in Salt. And after watching this trailer, I have to say that's perfectly fine by me, as it looks pretty badass. Throw Mission Impossible into the mix, too, as this looks like they took the best of all three super spies (Bourne, Hunt, Fox), made him a her, and put her into her own movie. For a teaser, this looks great. It'll definitely be one of the summer movies I'm looking forward to seeing. Same with you?

Salt is directed by veteran Australian filmmaker Phillip Noyce, of Echoes of Paradise, Dead Calm, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, The Saint, The Bone Collector, and Catch a Fire previously. The script was co-written by Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium, Street Kings, Law Abiding Citizen) and Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential, Conspiracy Theory, The Postman, Mystic River, Man on Fire, Taking of Pelham 123, Green Zone, Robin Hood). Sony is bringing Salt to theaters everywhere on July 23rd, 2010 next summer.

whos Fox? out of the 3 super spies?

Is angelina becoming the best female action star of our generation? With Gone in 60 seconds, Tomb Raider, Wanted, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and now this im beginning to think so. Trailer looks good BTW.

#1 - It was a joke... Fox is who Jolie was in Wanted. So I'm saying they combined Jason Bourne, Ethan Hunt (from Mission Impossible) and Fox (from Wanted) to create Evelyn Salt. 🙂

Alex Billington on Nov 4, 2009

4

Well the script was originally called Edwin Salt, and was supposed to star Tom Cruise. So yeah, Alex, they did make him a her. 😉

I've read this script, and I can't imagine Edwin A. Salt being played as a female. The driving factor in the film is a father's desire to see his family. It will be hard to get that same vibe from a female lead.

Looks horrible and extremely unbelievable... the kick off the wall left cross from a 105 pound girl wouldn't knockout anyone, even with those man hands of hers.

And after watching the trailer, I definitely will NOT be seeing this movie. They absolutely raped the script. What a shame.

Angelina looks like a skeleton. I miss the girl from Gina and Tomb Raider. She's just fading away. And I totally have to agree with #12 - I can see The Rock doing a move like that, but even with the wall kick, that punch would like any kind of force coming from the 105 lbs superspywomanskellie.

#12 and #14 really? picky, picky, picky! how is it you cannot suspend your belief and watch a fictional movie? it does not matter how much you weigh someone weighing 105 lbs can knock someone out. there is a lot of sexist comments on this board, (and no I'm not some femnnite) rather annoyng, why can't a woman be a badass agent that kicks people asses? This looks pretty good, Jolie dosen't get enough credit, she's a very good actress, and seeing her in this role. I'm looking forward to it.

And after watching the trailer, I definitely will NOT be seeing this movie. They absolutely raped the script. What a shame. whomever on Nov 4, 2009 ----------------------- I've also read the original script with Kurt Wimmer. I thought the first two parts were very good because of the character development. However, I was not a fan of the final part which was just over the top action. But I am excited for this film because the new script was written by the Oscar winning screenwriter of L.A. Confidential Brian Helgeland whose other films include Mystic River and Man on Fire. Plus Angelina is a wonderful and underrated talent with performances such as A Mighty Heart, Changeling, Girl Interrupted, Gia, George Wallace, Playing By Heart, and The Good Shepherd.

Looks fun, and I am far happier seeing Jolie in lingerie than Tom Cruise!!!! Lets just hope the wall kick punch is dropped, because that just looked lame. I think the reason people find it hard to accept women as badass, is because it is kind of unlikely!

#16 - it's not about being sexist at all - I'm mainly commenting on Jolie's new super skinny image. As she exits the interrogation room, look at her legs - they're so small now! I miss the old Jolie, the curvy one. I mean, in Wanted, Jolie was TOTALLY sportin' the adrenaline junkie look - skinny and boney with her tattoos rockin' out. She fit that role perfectly. I just don't get CIA vibe from her - especially not uberbadass. Sidney Bristol wasn't a petite one and she kicked major ass. I just don't like the super skinny look... I think Jolie is great - I always like her, and it's not just her that's doing the uber skinny dance nowadays.

I just want to say again how terribly disappointed I am that this movie looks like garbage. The script was so excellent, and for them to completely waste it is a real shame. I mean, G-d damn...this looks horrendous.

24

#18 I have no hope. If somehow there's a great movie in there that got a terrible trailer, I will be ecstatic. But look at the little things right off the bat... The interrogation scene. That whole scene is supposed to be Edwin A. Salt showing how awesome he is, trying his hardest to get the Russian defector to reveal the name of the super spy. And that changes to Eveyln Salt walking out the door as the defector says, "Well...don't you want to know the spy's name?" Like I said, I hope it's just the cut. Also, you said you liked the first two parts, but then hated the third? The whole trailers looks like nothing BUT the third act. I really, really hope it's just the cut.

looks good though it for some reason reminds me of the movie "The Long Kiss Goodnight". And yeah, even though I love Angelina Jolie as an action girl, I have to agree with #21, she doesn't kick ass like Sydney Bristow!

Looks like crap. Jolie as the badass sexy super spy is not a novel concept, it's actually pretty damn redundant. Tomb Raider, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Wanted. Give it up. There is such a thing as over-saturation. This is getting tired.

Leeloo Dallas Multipass on Nov 4, 2009

Doesn't look that great. Reminds me a lot of 'the long kiss goodnight' for some reason. The only way this movie could stay afloat is if Liev Schieber carries it.

Just another shot at the 'Bourne' franchise with a chick in the lead....That said, can Angelina Jolie open her first action vehicle without co-stars Pitt, Freeman, and Washington? Props for including Liev Schreiber in this flick, though! I'll stay tuned!!!!

#30 Interesting. She was the best thing in Wanted, not Freeman. In Mr&Mrs Smith, everyone was looking at her, not Pitt. So what is your point? Could Pitt open the movie w/o her? She's much better than him. Could Wanted be what it was w/o her? Nope. Angelina Jolie is a tremendously talented actress. She is a truly beautiful woman as well, fat or skinny. Granted 10-15 more pounds would make her impossibly sexxy, but she is obviously not interesting in being a "femme fatale" now that she is a mom to six little ones! That's a shame, she's still young, but.. I have a very good feeling about this film, based on what Noyce said, and cannot wait to see it.

Millus on Nov 4, 2009

47

#38 My point is exactly that.....I agree with ya that she's freakin' HOT and all, but when she's not headlining opposite a bankable male lead like Denzel Washington, Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman in a big action extravaganza she fizzles in "Changeling", "A Mighty Heart" and "Taking Lives", to name a few! This flick will be testimony as to her bankable ability!....THAT'S MY POINT!!!!! #42 Of course she was Pitt-less, etc., but you overlook the fact that it was a video game adaptation with a(ahem), less than stellar sequel. (Of which I'm reading rumors of a re-boot). Video game adaptations generally do good box office, unless it's a "Street Fighter" flick! But AGAIN, this "Salt" flick will be testimony as to her ability to open a non comic book/video game adaptation AND without a solid, male bankable lead!!! 🙂

I think she is an excellent actress. Not only can she seemingly kick ass in roles like this but she chooses other roles that have depth and character. I think this movie looks really good. Not too many actresses have the all around resume in acting that she does.

50

Wow, alex next time why dont you film yourself dropping a deuce and put "must watch:" in front of it. I might be slightly more entertained than this boring ass trailer. For more recycled ideas starring media whores.

meatcarnage on Nov 4, 2009

51

Alex, I have no idea where you get the Bourne films out of this. I don't see that at all. It looks more like a XxX with Vin D. Someone said something earlier about that opening scene with the Russian being interrogated. It looks like he coughed up a name way too fast. Yeah, it could have been the way the scene was cut, but FFS--What ever happened to great dialogue in films? Any interrogation scene is a great opportunity to have outstanding dialogue and intensity. Big snooze.

Quanah on Nov 4, 2009

52

Eeeehh, I don't know. I like Angelina Jolie, and even the action films she's done that kind of sucked....I kinda liked (Tomb Raider's, Mr. & Mrs. Smith) simply because I think she has an alluring appeal as an actress. But as far as big summer movies go....this one looks like a bomb. Hopefully the trailer is just cheesy and it's actually a decent film, but as of right now I'm going to go with this movie being another good example of why big name stars can't sell just any stinking pile of movie anymore. Unless this is just a bad trailer, this is going to bomb.

ImaginaryVisionary on Nov 4, 2009

53

# 47 You didn't answer my Qs. Could Pitt open that movie w/o her? (considering that it took 10 other big names to sell Oceans). Could Wanted be what it was w/o her? (there is no one who could do Fox but her) You don't think it was her fault that a regular Joe couldn't handle Changeling or A Mighty Heart, do you? Yet she was highly critically acclaimed for both, and that matters in the industry. You are too eager to dismiss her LC fantastic BO, which she racked up ALL by herself. Chill. You sound angry! No need. Please try not to have double standards when it comes to her.

#53 Chill? I sound angry? You must be quite the psychologist. I hate it when people jump to conclusions out of the blue. I just simply responded using proper examples! It's clear you like having the last word in everything! ......That said...Yes Brad Pitt could have opened the "Mr&Mrs Smith" flick, even with a different lead actress. He opened "Inglorious Basterds" didn't he, or was that attributed to Quentin Tarantino? Just to get this straight...."Wanted" worked as a comic book/graphic novel flick and many rushed for the 'effects' and sure she was an added bonus! It's like attributing Spider-Man's success to Tobey Maguire! See what I'm saying? I do not dismiss her Box Office.....I am simply saying she is unproven in this genre in her own starring vehicle. Many folks dismiss her as a 'media whore' and 'overrated'...and although, I am a fan, I still wonder whether she'll be able to pack 'em in the theater! Please do not be too sensitive; just the load of carrying a big budget extravaganza on her shoulders does make many of us, I'm sure, wonder!! We shall see, though! 🙂

Spider on Nov 5, 2009

63

Who likes to have the last word now? No, I am not sure at all that Pitt would have opened Mr&Mrs Smith w/o her...that flick per se was almost worse than The Mexican or Meet Joe Black (and we all know how Pitt "opened" that, even with the help of J. Roberts). Right. Yes, could it possibly be Tarantino? Or could it be Pitt's total overexposure? It is interesting that you don't call him a "media whore" while it was HIS screwed-up merger and the- first- time -in the- history -of -Hollywood- divorce, that has made Angelina a tabloid fodder par excellence! "Overrated"? She has her Oscar, 3 GGs, two SAGs, 3 CCAs, etc, and she is 12 years younger than him who has 1 GG. Who's overated? And, yes, you are dismissing her BO success, she's up there with the boys. Do you dismiss Batman too? Ridiculous. At thhis point, Angelina does not have to prove anything. As I said before, and based on what Noyce said, I can't wait to see Salt.

dough on Nov 5, 2009

64

Now you are being RIDICULOUS! Numbers don't lie! Pitt had another hit in "Curious Case of Benjamin Button", of which you left out! I am going based on their track records(the past)!!However you slice it, and I'm sure you'll keep slicing this 'dead horse' of a topic, Angelina is a good actress--I AM NOT DISPUTING THIS. We shall see her bankability when this flick opens... GOT IT???? I already made my point! Take it or leave it, it's my POV! Don't go blowing this WAY OUT of proportion man!! Wow, YOU are way too sensitive. BTW, who's sounding angry now??? 🙂 **Out of respect for this website, I will no longer answer to whatever you post. Good luck to ya!!!***

Spider on Nov 5, 2009

65

Why should I be angry? You could not dispute what I said. Absolutely, out of respect for this website, let me just add that it was Fincher and it was Tarantino with quite "uncommon" & intriguing movies that better actors could probably do better! Plus, all the hoopla. And, back to the topic - this is about Angelina. My POV? She has already proven her bankability, her "numbers" are officially up there at the top with guys. I am sure there are many who want to see her: you worry too much too early. Good luck to you too. (I mean it)

@18, 24, 25 - how can you judge whether the trailer is a realistic representation of the movie? At the very least, it should give you a picture of how the cinematography and direction is, but the trailers are made from companies who specialize in marketing, given limited usage rights to clips of finished/unfinished cuts of the movie. Marketing =/= movie. That said, it looks interesting. If it's more substance than style, it'll definitely be worth watching (since the style looks like a solid action film)
