Must Watch: New Trailer for Rob Marshall's Sexy Musical Nine

Nine Trailer

As a huge fan of Italian filmmaker Federico Fellini, it's great to see such a vibrant trailer for Rob Marshall's Nine, a musical based on the original musical of the same name, which was derived from an Italian play by Mario Fratti which itself was inspired by Federico Fellini's autobiographical film 8Β½. Much like Marshall's Chicago, this new trailer is chock full of singing, dancing and scantily clad women including the prominently featured Kate Hudson, and the laughable appearance of Stacy "Fergie" Ferguson as Fellini's iconic slutty, crazy, dancing character Saraghina. Now all that remains to be seen is if Daniel Day-Lewis really can sing.

Famous Italian director Guido Contini struggles to find harmony in his professional and personal lives, as he engages in dramatic relationships with his wife, his mistress, his muse, his agent, and even his mother.

Nine is directed by Rob Marshall, of the Oscar winning musical Chicago previously as well as Memoirs of a Geisha most recently. The screenplay was adapted by the late great Anthony Minghella and Michael Tolkin, of The Rapture, Deep Impact, and Changing Lanes. The film is based on Federico Fellini's masterpiece 8Β½. The Weinstein Company will debut Nine in theaters everywhere on Christmas Day, December 25th.

@ #2, Mark Removed?

Ethan Anderton on Nov 17, 2009

Alex, excuse me if I'm mistaken but you seemed unaware that this was based off of 8 1/2 when you posted the first trailer a few months back. Infact you seemed to be awfully negative about it. That being said, can't wait.

Al on Nov 17, 2009

What a horrible trailer!

K on Nov 17, 2009

looks like a cross between Austin Powers and those old Egoiste (or was it Eternity?) commercials. I think it looks fun.

ebbie on Nov 17, 2009

Meh, I thought I was excited for this. Not so much anymore. I don't think it'll be terrible, but it'll be pretty forgettable.

FancyMonocle on Nov 17, 2009

First trailer was better

barf....terrriblllle castinngggggggggg

nocsyn on Nov 17, 2009

This is why TWC sucks. This trailer totally alienated almost its entire audience besides the one that likes singing and dancing. Also this doesnt come out THANKSGIVING but DECEMBER. It says so at the end of the trailer!

Ryan on Nov 17, 2009

no gun-shooting... no kickin' some ass... not a single drop of blood... not even a comic adaptation... and Alex made this a Must Watch?! Whoa! you not feeling well Alex? πŸ˜›

Is there anyone who doesn't want to punch Kate Hudson in the face?

Matt Larner on Nov 17, 2009

I don't want to punch Kate Hudson in the Face, I want to Drop Kick her off the Grand Canyon.

What trailer ? ... Who care about the trailer !!! ???? .. Does this movie even need a trailer πŸ˜‰ Daniel Day-Lewis (2 Oscars) ... Sophia Loren (1 Oscar) ... PenΓ©lope Cruz (1 Oscar) ... Nicole Kidman (1 Oscar) ... Judi Dench (1 Oscar) ... Marion Cotillard (1 Oscar)... and the Oscar nominated .. Kate Hudson .... this girl just surprised me !!! .... Wow ! πŸ˜‰

@9: This trailer totally alienated almost its entire audience besides the one that likes singing and dancing.... Um, it's a musical?

ebbie on Nov 17, 2009

This trailer was actually pretty bad, and a terrible representation of what the film is. First trailer owned though, and I have so much faith in Marshall.

Al on Nov 17, 2009

Ebbie: I don't get it either. This is a frickin' musical. If people didn't know that earlier, that's their fault. Personally, I really like it. Too bad I have to wait til December to see it.

Corran Horn on Nov 17, 2009

i personally had no idea what 9 was about, who's involved and was more or less completely uninformed-the trailer looks ambitious,i reckon it'll turn out to be actually quite good

twispious on Nov 17, 2009

14 I love how you base it off how man of these people won oscars. Keep in mind the Academy Awards is extremely political and it's more of a popularity contest than anything. Many of the actors you said did not deserve their so called "award" This trailer honestly shows nothing about the movie, that is what bugs me. It's a musical, I get that, there will be sex I get that, but what else? This is a massive dissapointment.

Movieraider321 on Nov 17, 2009

UGHHHH not looking forward to this movie because of Kate Hudson. I wish I never saw THIS trailer.

giraffic on Nov 17, 2009

psh of course Day-Lewis can sing he is the best actor alive

DoomCanoe on Nov 17, 2009

@ #11 and #4 Be sure to check the byline below the headline to see who actually writes the articles. Alex wrote the post about the first trailer for this film, hence his lack of excitement, but I posted this one, because I let him know that I'm totally pumped for this film, and have been well aware of its relation to 8 1/2 since it was announced. So that's why it's a Must Watch. And... @ #10, thanks for that release date check, we hadn't updated our release date information for this film since it was pushed back, and it just slipped through the cracks.

Ethan Anderton on Nov 17, 2009

Am I the only person that loved this trailer?! I am fueled to see this now!!! I get it, this trailer was based on the character Kate is playing. I thought i was good. gave a decent number, edited down to size w/ clips here and there of the other cast members. Can't wait! Thanks!

19# Movieraider321 I am not that blind by Oscar awards ...Because as you know before and after Oscars there are many other awards from all around the world too .... I will be glad that you give me more information about who are those actors and mostly actress that did not deserve their Oscars !!!?????

Shero on Nov 18, 2009

What the fuck is this shit? that's the second trailer with DDL not even speaking in it, let alone singing... are we sure he's even in this movie? i'm starting to think they just superimposed him in a few frames. and lol @ everyone calling Ethan 'Alex'.

crumb on Nov 18, 2009

Weather Danel Day Lewis can sing in this film nine or not i don't no, hes probley had is voice dubed over by a proper singer.

Cineprog on Nov 18, 2009

Fucking creepy is how I describe this.

Hattori Hanzo on Nov 18, 2009

Robbie on Nov 18, 2009

Don't fret, Conrad, Ebbie and I enjoyed it too. I think the problem is that this is a film designed for a different audience than the one that visits this site.

Corran Horn on Nov 18, 2009

i can already see some bad casting choices. i have some reservations about its success.

Buggy166 on Nov 18, 2009

#24 sums it up pretty well for me. Watching this trailer whilst drinking my morning coffee, I was suddenly overwhelmed with the urge to smash my cup and use the shards to sever my retinas and my eardrums. Moulin Rouge? Get Stuffed. Chicago? Go fuck yourself. Nine? Get stuffed AND go fuck yourself. Of course, I'm sure we'll wind up seeing this thing come Oscar time. 10 Best Picture noms to choose from and for reasons unbeknown to me, I'm sure this will be one of them. and Jeebus wept.

DLM Entertainment on Nov 18, 2009

#32 Are you kidding? Moulin Rouge was awesome! Chicago was alright... But i have to agree it seems a bit too "oscar-nominatable" I'd be up for this if it doesn't take itself quite so seriously... if it can actually manage to be fun.

Will on Nov 18, 2009

#33 Moulin Rouge was what? If you think that, then you must have blown a nut when you saw the dance sequence at the end of Blazing Saddles

Sam on Nov 18, 2009

christmas day release? I'd be upset if i worked the xmas shift at the cinema and this was the crap they showed πŸ˜›

ChrisUK on Nov 18, 2009

32 - To quote you, "Get stuffed and go fuck yourself." You've never seen this film before, just a terrible trailer. How can you say its undeserving of Best Picture if you haven't seen the film? Don't try to answer you can't. Id be fine if you said it LOOKED bad, but to call it shit without seeing it is naive.

Al on Nov 18, 2009

That was more of a music video then a trailer.

d1rEct on Nov 18, 2009

If you were to watch this trailer first, you'd think this film was going to be awful. The first trailer was so much better.

Japhet Bower on Nov 20, 2009

was that a commercial for cologne?

Brian Ricci on Nov 21, 2009

Didn't like the trailer.
