New Comedies: One Night Stan & The Best Thing About Pam Rooney
by Alex Billington
August 10, 2009
Following the immense success of The Hangover this year, studios are scrambling to pick up as many raunchy, R-rated comedies as they can. Two new comedies have been announced today by the trades. The first is One Night Stan that Josh Friedlander wrote. The film was sold to Lionsgate with Harold & Kumar creators Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (seen above) set to direct. The second is The Best Thing About Pam Rooney, a high-concept romantic comedy to be written by Andrew Jay Cohen and Brendan O'Brien that Jonah Hill will produce and star in. That was sold to Universal but doesn't have a director yet.
Since Variety didn't include a synopsis for Jonah Hill's The Best Thing About Pam Rooney, we're just going to stick with the other project. One Night Stan (via THR) plays out a scenario about which many men fantasize on the cusp of marriage. When Stan learns his fiancee, Julie, has had more sexual partners than he, he gets her blessing for one night to play catch-up. Unfortunately, his plans for a "sex buffet" don't come together quite the way he had hoped. Sounds a bit like Good Luck Chuck, and we all know how that turned out. Hopefully this won't be as bad as that movie, but I don't expect much from the Harold & Kumar guys.
