Run Your Own Theater & Challenge Your Friends on FlickPicks!

FlickPicks

As a movie geek it's not very difficult to get lost in a fantasy world. However, sports geeks have a special fantasy niche in they get to virtually live their dreams of owning a sports team with fantasy baseball football, etc. Fantasy fodder! FlickPicks let's us film nerds live out the fantasy of running our own theater in a new online game based in the world of box office and movie theaters allowing users to compete with their friends to see who runs the most profitable theater. A few sites picked up on FlickPicks awhile back, but rather than throw you blindly into the fire, we tried it out first. So what's the word? It's pretty damn fun to play this.

FlickPicks is fun and simple fare for the movie geek that allows you to use your knowledge and love of film to try and become the best multiplex in the world. While an ever-growing complicated fantasy box office game like The Hollywood Stock Exchange requires endless attention, it's the weekend where FlickPicks comes alive. Every person runs their own 7-screen multiplex where you choose what films you'll be showing for the coming weekend. Your picks have to be in by 11:59 PM every Friday. Each week the movies you're allowed to screen fluctuate, however I haven't figured out what the stipulations are for being included in your choices since it's not always every single movie in theaters that's available for your theater to screen.

You can hear more about the basics of FlickPicks in this video:

Results and points are tabulated Saturday, Sunday and Monday according to real box office numbers, and as you gain more points you move higher up on the ranking board from the beginning "Drive-In Division" to the coveted "Megaplex Division." Once you get into the game you'll start seeing more of the features that really make the game interesting like playing a movie on multiple screens (always a good choice for a big blockbuster weekend) as well as directly challenging another theater for more points. This past weekend was a huge points winner, but many theaters are in a dead heat on the challenge front with most of them putting Avatar on 3 screens as a surefire weekend winner.

The community is growing and it's making for a fun online distraction for anyone who considers movies a little more than a hobby and thinks they have the know-how to run a successful theater. At the same time, it also gives a little insight into exactly how difficult it is to run a theater and program the right movies to have a good business rather than just playing the movies you want to see. So head on over to FlickPicks here or just visit PlayFlickPicks.com. If you sign-up, check out my profile right here, and see if you can work your way up the ladder to challenge me as my theater, The Majestic, is currently undefeated 4 weeks in a row in the challenge arena and listed in the Ultra Palace Division. So go sign up now and bring on the thunder!
