Ryan Reynolds Still Deadpool, Liefeld Approves Fox's Plans

There have been a lot of developments related to the comic book movie world recently, from Disney buying Marvel, to even then news that Ryan Reynolds would be playing the Green Lantern (remember that?). In regards to Reynolds, when that casting news hit, most people thought that this meant he would be out as Deadpool in the spin-off Fox is developing (and had already greenlit). But we now have early confirmation from Rob Liefeld, one of the co-creators of Deadpool, that Reynolds is still on-board to play Deadpool. Liefeld spilled the news on his Twitter (via SHH) after a meeting with producer Lauren Shuler Donner.
Liefeld mentioned earlier on Tuesday night: "Walking into Deadpool movie meeting!!! Yowza!" Definitely setting the mood. And here was his response after getting out: "Great Deadpool movie meeting! Lauren Schuler Donner and her team are headed in the right direction!" Great news, especially from one of the creators of the character (along with Fabian Nicieza), but that's not at all. Here's what else he had to say:
"Deadpool movie checklist- DP in costume-check! Breaking 4th wall-check! Loads of killing-double check!"
"Deadpool movie- YES! Ryan Reynolds is on board!!!"
"Also excited to discuss possibilities of Cable in future X-films!!!"
Okay, okay, Liefeld just revealed quite a bit related to the Deadpool movie. Right after Wolverine came out earlier in the summer and the Deadpool spin-off was confirmed, former Fox exec Jeff Katz promised that it would "be classic Deadpool." And now Liefeld also confirms that he'll be breaking the fourth wall and killing lots of people - definitely classic Deadpool. And that comment about the iconic costume looking good (see the photo above of that costume) means quite a bit coming from the actual artist who came up with that iconic costume. If he approves of it, then I'm definitely in, and that's what it sounds like from his meeting.
Sure, this is all a bit vague right now, but it's great to hear this kind of stuff so early in the development process, especially for a character as beloved as Deadpool. Oh and that last quote, about the character Cable, is pretty damn cool, too. Cable is another character from the X-Men/Marvel Universe that is a fan favorite - maybe he'll finally get his big screen debut? And hopefully Reynolds does this right after Green Lantern?
