Sigourney Weaver Leaks Some Big Ghostbusters 3 Plot Points

But just because she's Sigourney Weaver, that's okay! Well, not really, but who cares? Weaver did an interview with Channel 4 News in the UK (via AICN) for Avatar and ended up chatting a bit about what's going on with Ghostbusters 3, which we haven't heard much about recently. There used to be new quotes from someone hitting every week for the last six months, but that finally stopped. Anyway, Weaver reveals a lot without saying much. "I'm afraid to say [Ghostbusters 3] is happening, I hope people are excited about that." I certainly am! But everyone else may change their mind after they hear what else she says about it.

"I don't know if I'm going to be in it, I have had a couple of calls asking 'would you read the script,'" Weaver explained. And apparently she did read the script, because she seems to know a lot about what happens in it. For example: "I know that my little son Oscar – who was kidnapped from me [in the second Ghostbusters movie] – I think he has grown up to be a Ghostbuster." We knew that they were planning to introduce a new generation of Ghostbusters, but we didn't know that Oscar was going to be one of them! But that's not all.

"I might be in it; I see nothing wrong with being in it, although I don't think I will have a big part. I think Bill Murray has a little more to do with it - he's a ghost."

I usually don't like spoiling huge plot points like that, but considering Ghostbusters 3 isn't going to be out until 2011 or 2012, this kind of news isn't that revealing this far out. Actually, wait, it is very revealing, it's just not something that I think is going to make me any less excited. In fact, I'm actually more interested in seeing Bill Murray come back as a ghost and seeing Oscar kick his ass with their new Proton Packs. I'm also wondering if this means all of the original 'busters will be ghosts too? Maybe that's the plot? Maybe they come across something that kills all of them and the new guys have to figure out how to bring them back.

I'm not sure what to make all of this yet, but it is official and it is coming from someone trustworthy and it is coming from someone who has (presumably) read the script. Now we're just waiting for Sony to give this the greenlight and officially announce a director and a cast so they can actually shoot it. I'm getting anxious to see this officially move forward. Knowing these details though, are you still excited to see Ghostbusters 3?

I'm sure they would have revealed that he was a ghost in the very first trailer. I'm a stickler for spoilers too, but this one just didn't bother me because there's absolutely no way they'd be able to hide this from people prior to the release.

That's not a plot point, that's a spoiler. Why isn't there a spoiler alert? Jerk. I guess I'm excited, but only if the plot is the way you described it. Which I kinda doubt at this point. "Sigourney Weaver Ruins Plot of Ghostbusters 3 for Everyone" should've been your headline. Dang. Not even a spoiler alert, it's that Watchmen end sequence post all over again. Why?

Not the least bit exicted. I always thought that the orginal movies were way over rated and not all that funny, Murray was just doing Murray in the movies the same way Will Ferrel does Will Ferrell in all his movies. Once you'e seen one Bill Murray movie, you've seen them all and for that matter, once you've seen one Bill Murray movie, you've seen all of Will Ferrell movies as well ...

sounds like the plot for one of the manga comics. Ghostbusters get trapped in ghost form by some big badass ghost, although in the manga, the ghostbusters have to figure a way out of whatever twisted world they're in(rather like some elements from the latest game). Maybe this time a group of ghostbuster cadets, or even ghostbusters from a franchise scheme(game), have to come to the rescue of the older ghostbusters.. So I'd like to think that Ghostbusters 3 can utilise aspects of the game and the older films in it's new script.

Somehow I think "Leaks Some Big Plot Points" in the title means... "Spoilers Ahead"... Granted, he didn't spell it out directly for you, but by reading the title, and then continuing to read the article, you can clearly tell that "BIG PLOT POINTS" aka SPOILERS will be revealed. Thanks for posting Alex, though I wish they would reboot Ghostbusters with new actors, new CGI, and just start the franchise over. Maybe having Bill Murray as a cameo would be cool.

Ain't It Cool News has it reported as said in more of a playful or joking manner: "She said she doesn't have a big part in it but thinks Bill Murray has a bigger part. Then, she put her hand to her mouth and mock-whispered, "He might be playing a ghost." I've never heard about this before and it struck me as quite a big reveal."

For all you know, Bill Murray could be revealed as a ghost within the first 2 minutes of the movie. I don't consider this a spoiler just yet. I doubt it's like saying *Spoiler Alert* Bruce Willis was a ghost at the end of The Sixth Sense. I agree with #17, Audioout, that they would market this bit of news. If they don't rewrite the script, then Bill "The Ghost" Murry will be presented in the trailers. Same thing for the Oscar bit. Thanks for posting this information on the plot points, I was hoping to hear some substantial news on this project, and Firstshowing.net did not disappoint. Good work! I love this website.

I wouldn't call that a spoiler alert. Studios do this on ocassion. They get a reliable person to leak some plot news to see how the public responds before a greenlight (i.e. Hobbit 2 originally being a bridge between the Hobbit and LOTR). If the public responds less than favorably, they change the script. It's happened before. It'll happen again. I wouldn't get worked up yet, but if Bill Murray dies at the END of the movie and Oscar says a tearful goodbye to Murray than I'd boycott Sigourney Weaver from reading scripts before a greenlight forever. Alex just reported what was already on the net. Google it. It's there.

This kinda stuff rarely happens (Which is probably a good thing). I hope Weaver is getting her ass chewed out by her agent and the producers for spilling such a big fucking can of beans. This is absolutely terrible. The plot about introducing 'new, young hip Ghostbusters' is an absolutely appalling idea. Ghostbusters worked because of the cast and the brilliant writing. Anyone who supports this atrocious re-imagining are completely out of touch with what made Ghostbusters so special in the first place. Go ahead, pay to see it, pay for more of these completely useless sequels and remakes.

It's funny, I'm not really interested in this movie. I mean, we've all got fond memories of the first one and conveniently forget the second one, trust me, the third will follow on from the second quality-wise. I'll only be watching for Bill Murray.

she also revealed that slimer would be there as well and bill murray would only be making a small appearance as a ghost and the rest of the ghostbusters would only be in the first half an hour to deal with the trainning aspect. and that seth rogen would be cast as one of the leads and mclovin would play a role similar to genine. and that the new ecto one would be a ford. Do you believe everything i say? Did i ruin the movie for you? Is the internet too much? Did facts about a script for a movie to be released in 2012 mess with you too? 2012 people.... its about two weeks from 2010. 2 years to make adjustments!

I guess I never knew they would follow through with it, but the concept shouldn't be entirely new to us. For the last five-ten years, it seems, the rumor was that Bill Murray wouldn't be in a third Ghostbusters movie UNLESS he could be a ghost. While somewhat skeptical, I'm still ready for it.

Ummm...this is like news from a year ago when Ramis was speaking concerning the return of Murry in GB3. He would return only as a Ghost. Christ, this is old news.
