Skynet Research Viral Marketing for Terminator Salvation

Skynet Research

If you've ever been to Universal Studios, you know how cool it is to ride the Terminator 2: 3-D ride. Even standing in the line inside of the Cyberdyne Systems Corporation operations room, there's nothing like seeing everything from within the Terminator movies in real life. That's why it would make perfect sense for Warner Brothers to use some sort of viral marketing for the upcoming Terminator Salvation, specifically involving Skynet, the AI system that controls the robots. Good news - a viral campaign is about to kick off. While there isn't much yet, a brand new Skynet Research site has launched, so sign up now!

All you need to do is head over to SkynetResearch.com and add your email to their list. We'll be sure to let you know when we hear of any updates for this as well. My guess is that this will be launching in the next few weeks around either the New York Comic-Con or WonderCon, or potentially right after Watchmen hits theaters. It's hard to tell this early if this viral will be run by 42 Entertainment, the company behind The Dark Knight's brilliant viral campaign last year, or if it will just be something smaller and relegated only to the internet. However, Terminator is the kind of movie that I'd love to see a huge viral for.

Is this a joke? After hearing Christian Bale's psychotic rant against some poor guy, i will definitely be boycotting anything to do with Terminator: salvation. The guy needs some serious help. http://www.aolcdn.com/tmz_audio/020209_christianbale.mp3

Who hasn't gone a rant before on set? Was he right to do it? i don't know possibly. But i am not going to pass up on a movie with a screenplay written by Jon Nolan, Zuiker, Ryan and Haggis.

Discussion is ensuing over at Unfiction ( http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=27423 ), ARGN has covered it ( http://www.argn.com/2009/02/skynet_research_wants_you/ ) and the wiki for the Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles is ready to track udpates ( http://terminator.wikibruce.com/SkynetResearch.com ) Suffice to say - the ARG community is eagerly watching :) It's not the same company that ran the Enitech extended campaign, and it's all but certain that it's not in fact 42. Of course that doesn't mean it can't still be great :) There's always the chance though that this will just end up being an official movie site. I think they've accomplished the 'viral' aspect so far though, that's for sure.

viral marketing is annoying, theyre all just trying to be The Dark Hype
  • the dude
timothy, he does neet serious help. . you guys should listen http://www.aolcdn.com/tmz_audio/020209_christianbale.mp3
  • Dr Phaust
Well yes have to agree he was a bit out of order but look at the upside here. If he's getting that upset about the scene then the film might, just have a decent script ;)
  • Red Color Buttons.
Thanks for the links theBruce. I love viral campaigns, i think they add fun little depth (even if it is at most superficial) to the film and its universe. Just like Slusho and all the jazz that follows with cloverfield, star trek, alias etc. Its a great time to be a movie fan.
  • Davor
the whole rant is fake and staged to create publicity for the movie.
  • Keith
What evidence do you have to back that up Davor? Absolutely none, right?
  • Drake
christian bale louding up the director of photography, thats viral marketing
  • Robert

  • Merc

  • twoleos
Guys, c'mon, it's fake. Click on "Terms of Use" or "Privacy Policy" at the bottom of the Skynet Research website and the links both take you to Warner Brothers website. Great marketing ploy though.. Can't wait for the movie.
  • Tp
