Steve Martin & Alec Baldwin to Co-Host the Academy Awards

After deciding that Hugh Jackman would not be returning to host the Oscars, the AMPAS has announced today that Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin will serve as co-hosts of the 82nd Academy Awards telecast on March 7th, 2010. "We think the team of Steve and Alec are the perfect pair of hosts for the Oscars," said producers Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman. "Steve will bring the experience of having hosted the show in the past and Alec will be a completely fresh personality for this event." This does also confirm, sadly, that Neil Patrick Harris will not be hosting every awards show ever. But will these two sing and dance instead?

"I am happy to co-host the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin," Martin said. "I don't play the banjo but I'm thrilled to be hosting the Oscars – it's the opportunity of a lifetime," Baldwin said. Is it mere coincidence that both Baldwin and Martin are starring in the same comedy this holiday season - It's Complicated? Sure, they're both working actors, but this is an obvious marketing ploy as well. Although let's not forget, Hugh Jackman had Wolverine coming up when he hosted the Oscars last year. I'm certainly down with both of them, they're very funny guys, and I'm sure they'll make it a very entertaining show this year. Thoughts?

While I love both of them, I wonder how the two-host dynamic will affect the show...

Definitely a good pairing and they had a good report on 30 rock last year (a different format I know). I personally think it's high time for a Billy Crystal hosted-telecast. Fingers crossed for 2011.

Steve Martin rules but i just never liked Alec Baldwin. I love the awards show so almost no host will stop me anyways.

Eh, still would have preferred NPH. Would have been nice to see what Dr. Horrible had to say about the internet moving up on the silver screen also.

I am not sure. They can be funny but they just can´t top Jackman´s charm and energy. And I really hope the are smart enough not to tell political jokes. I still want Hugh Jackman back.
