Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan Update - New Script Almost Done

With that story about George Clooney from last week, it seems as if Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan is back in the mainstream conscious once again. As we mentioned in that article, Paramount hired Killshot screenwriter Hossein Amini last year to write a new Jack Ryan screenplay for them to turn into a franchise. Anne Thompson (via Variety) provides a small update on the project, saying that Amini is due to turn in the first draft of an original screenplay currently called the Untitled Tom Clancy Project. Paramount is working with Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura to develop the feature but it's still very early on.
We don't know much more about this, but I did hear from an anonymous tipster that Ryan Gosling has been Paramount's top choice for Jack Ryan for a few years now. However, Thompson did add that, "Yes, Clooney has been discussed for Jack Ryan." Obviously they're not going to officially cast anyone until the script is in and they have a director. But they could go in the younger direction with Gosling or a bit older with Clooney. The best way to end this today is with a great set of discussion points from Thompson: "Are Tom Clancy movies out of date? Too 80s? Am I the only one who still adores The Hunt for Red October?"
