Warner Brothers Already Developing The Hangover Sequel
by Alex Billington
April 5, 2009
Roughly two months before The Hangover even arrives in theaters, Warner Brothers has preemptively given the greenlight to director Todd Phillips and Scot Armstrong to start writing a sequel. Variety confirms that the studio has made this "multimillion-dollar commitment" based on early test screening results and the reaction to the newest trailer (which can be seen here) at ShoWest. Todd Phillips will be back to direct and produce The Hangover sequel. WB also has made deals to bring back Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms, who star in the original, which is due out in theaters on June 5th.
I would say this is normally very good news, an early sign that The Hangover might be pretty awesome, but I'm a bit confused. From the trailers we've seen, I can't imagine how a sequel would even work? The story follows three groomsmen who take their friend to Las Vegas for one final crazy night, only to wake up the following morning to find the groom missing. My guess is that they do end up finding him, right? And if so, I'm sure he still gets married? So in the sequel, maybe one of the other guys is now the one getting married, and it's about his night on the town? Who knows, but now I can't wait until June 5th, that's for sure!
