William Monahan's London Boulevard to Star Farrell and Knightley
by Brandon Lee Tenney
January 22, 2009
Hot off his Golden Globe win for his stellar performance in In Bruges, Colin Farrell is set to star in London Boulevard along with Keira Knightley. The film, a crime drama based on Ken Bruen's novel of the same name, is to be directed by the writer of The Departed, William Monahan, who is making his directorial debut. Variety reports that Farrell will be playing a London-based criminal just released from a stint in prison who tries to give up his gangster way of life by becoming a handyman for a reclusive actress, played by Knightley. The film will begin shooting this summer on location in and around London.
Looks like Farrell will be revisiting a defunct criminal character again fairly quickly off of In Bruges. I'm a big fan of Farrell, less of Knightley, but at least she's breaking free of her period pieces, if only for this film alone. After witnessing the range displayed by Farrell in In Bruges, I've the greatest faith in his ability to play what should be a very conflicted character. And no matter what, I'd say that's a good looking pair to have on screen together. As for William Monahan, it should be quite interesting to see if he can handle directing as well as he does writing. Here's to hoping this project turns out great in the end.
