Andy Serkis Replaces David Tennant in Landis' Burke & Hare

Andy Serkis

Last year we brought you the news that David Tennant would join Simon Pegg in John Landis' upcoming Burke and Hare, the true story of Irish immigrants William Burke and William Hare, who murdered and sold the corpses of their 17 victims to the Edinburgh Medical College for dissection. However, thanks to the power of Twitter, we now have word from Pegg himself that unfortunately, "David Tennant had to drop out of [Burke & Hare] but by sheer glorious serendipity a legend of Middle Earth and Skull Island has come aboard. Welcome AS." Of course, that "AS" is the magician of motion capture himself - Andy Serkis!

While this isn't exactly official news confirmed by the studio, I think we can trust the co-lead of the film to not feed us a line of garbage, no matter how tricky Pegg can be. While it would've been great to see Tennant pair up with Pegg, I cannot wait to see Serkis really dig into a role. After his bit part in King Kong, I've been hoping Serkis would get a role that would let him delve a bit deeper into his comic sensibilities (albeit a bit dark in this kind of story) and get him some recognition where he didn't have to be obscured by a CGI creature. Hopefully we'll see some more movement and official casting announcements soon! Excited?

UPDATE: The Twitter update from Simon Pegg has since been deleted. Sounds like he might have pulled the trigger a little too soon. We'll keep you posted if we hear anything else regarding Burke and Hare.

Will be quite mad to see the streets I get drunk in to be made into a film again. Though it'll probably be filmed in Prague. Bring on the the gothicness.
