Alexandre Desplat Scoring Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows
Although John Williams hasn't scored a Harry Potter film since Prisoner of Azkaban, I had always hoped that he would return to finish out the epic series. However, the odds of that now happening have seemingly decreased by 100% as the Harry Potter fansite Mugglenet uncovered info buried in a post at Film Score Daily that composer Alexandre Desplat will be behind the music for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I. Most recently he has scored Un Prophete, Fantastic Mr. Fox and The Ghost Writer. It's important to note that at this point Desplat has only signed on for Part I, so Part II might be up for grabs.

Sean Penn & Robert Pattinson Will Have 'Water for Elephants'
No matter how much hate I have for Twilight, I give kudos to Robert Pattinson for not becoming a prototypical young Hollywood heartthrob, but rather sticking with his artistic integrity and choosing films that will challenge him as an actor (take notes Taylor Lautner). Variety reports further evidence of this as the young actor, along with the eclectic Sean Penn, is in talks to join Reese Witherspoon in the Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) directed film Water for Elephants. Based on the Sara Gruen historical novel of the same name, the script has been adapted by Richard LaGravenese, but Fox has not confirmed casting yet.

Must Watch: Another Raunchy Hot Tub Time Machine Trailer
Get tub'd this March! MGM has debuted a second hilariously raunchy red band trailer for Hot Tub Time Machine today that is, hands down, a must watch. I hope I'm not the only one excited for this movie, but I love the concept so much that I just can't wait to see it. Although it may also be because I love Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and this reminds me of it. Plus, any trailer that references Back to the Future: Part II and Super Mario Bros. in the same exact instant deserves to be called must watch. I'm not the biggest fan of comedies these days, but this is at the top of my list for 2010. Watch below & let us know what you think!

Watch This: Trailer for Spike Jonze's New Short Film I'm Here
Yep, Spike Jonze already has a new film - I'm Here is a 30 minute short that is premiering tonight at the Sundance Film Festival (I'll be seeing it this evening as well). The short stars Andrew Garfield as a library assistant who plods through an ordinary life in LA until a chance meeting opens his eyes to a the power of creativity and ultimately, love. When this new life and love begin to fall apart, he discovers he has a lot to give. This short film proves that ordinary is no place to be. It's essentially a robot love story which, from the mind of Spike Jonze, means it's probably brilliant. This trailer looks wonderful and I can't wait to see it!

Tron Legacy's Joe Kosinksi Talks 3D Tech, IMAX & Daft Punk
Hot on the heels of that slick new poster release featuring the yellow light cycle, the hype machine for Tron Legacy just might get cranked up to 11 (ironically enough with 11 months to go before release) as MTV has sat down for an in depth interview with freshman filmmaker Joe Kosinski who is the man brave to tackle the long awaited, effects heavy, digital 3-D sequel to Disney's cult classic flick Tron. Currently working his ass off in post-production, Kosinski talked about calling back to the original 1982 film, their stunning new 3-D tech, and how the masters of electronic beats, Daft Punk, came on to score the whole thing. Read on!

'Howl' Directors Tackling the Porn Star Biopic 'Lovelace' Next
With their Allen Ginsberg biopic Howl premiering at the Sundance Film Festival this week, Oscar winner Rob Epstein and co-director Jeffrey Friedman have just landed their second job as Variety reports the duo have signed on to direct Lovelace, a biopic chronicling Linda Boreman's rise to fame as iconic porn star Linda Lovelace, star of the infamous 1972 porno film Deep Throat, to her sudden turn as a feminist and anti-porn activist. The story is told from the point-of-view of three interviewers at various stages of her life. I'm very interested in discovering how a woman makes such a drastic change in lifestyle.

Brandon's Sundance Film Festival Experience: Where to Begin
This year's Sundance Film Festival, held in the picturesque town of Park City, Utah, also happens to be my first trip to one of the landmark celebrations of independent cinema. The mere prospect of such an experience and the potential being projected on the myriad screens around the city is enough to cause any cinephile to lapse into a diabetic coma. That is to say, it's pretty cussin' sweet. Some romanticize the fest -- something that, even after two days, appears all too easy to do -- while others do their best not to lap up the sweet nectar too quickly. These folks are measured and resolute. Warriors set about a battlefield centered

Sony Will Be Sending Audiences to Jeff Somers' Electric Church
After years and years of representing talent like Judd Apatow, Jim Carrey and Will Ferrell and producing comedies like Elf, Step Brothers, and most recently She's Out of My League, THR's Heat Vision reports producer Jimmy Miller and his Mosaic production banner (in conjunction with Sony Pictures) are moving into the science fiction realm with an adaptation of Jeff Somers' novel The Electric Church. In the first installment of a three book series bodyguard-assassin Avery Cates is forced by the governing police force to kill the founder of a church that converts people by transplanting their brains into pliant robotic bodies.

First Look: Cillian Murphy and Ellen Page in 'Peacock' Thriller
This isn't showing at Sundance, but it is a film most of you will probably be interested in. We first wrote about Peacock way back in early 2008 (it was also shot later that year). It's a new thriller starring Cillian Murphy and Ellen Page directed by first-timer Michael Lander. The movie is set in the town of Peacock, Nebraska where Murphy plays a man with a split personality, husband and wife alter egos. Page plays a young mother who "sparks a battle" between them. We're not sure when it'll ever be out, but The Playlist found a huge batch of photos on an official website we didn't even know existed. So check them out below.

Details Emerge as Peter Dinklage Nears Knights of Badassdom
Last August, word came (via SlashFilm) that director Joe Lynch was working on a comedy adventure film called The Knights of Badassdom. Described as a "heavy metal adventure" the only detail uncovered was that the story is about LARPers (Live Action Role-Players like those in Role Models) who accidentally cast a real spell and bring a real demon into our world. But now with casting underway, not only did Bloody Disgusting hear that Peter Dinklage (the "angry elf" who battled Will Ferrell in Elf) is in talks to join the project, but they uncovered quite a hefty plot synopsis (paraphrased below) with plenty of story details.

Quarantine's Dowdle Brothers Directing Adaptation of 'Afraid'
It's a bit strange to think that anyone could break into the film industry with a flick that was good enough to start their career, but not good enough to climb out of limbo after two years. Such is the case with John & Drew Dowdle who broke into the industry writing and producing The Poughkeepsie Tapes, a film that is stuck in release limbo despite having trailers in theaters on and off. Though the film hasn't seen release, the writers are finishing their second directing gig with Devil written by M. Night Shyamalan, and now Bloody Disgusting says the brothers will direct Afraid, an adaptation of Jack Kilborn's novel of the same name.

Patrick Alessandrin is Taking Over 'Protection' with Clive Owen
It was last May that ScreenDaily gave us word that Simon West (Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Con-Air) would be directing Protection starring Paul Walker as a disgraced former Special Forces soldier who takes on Mexican gangs in an attempt to rescue a judge’s daughter. Now that we've reminded you, go ahead and toss all that information out the window as Production Weekly has posted an update via Twitter saying that this action flick, scripted by newcomer Brandon Noonan, will now be helmed by director Patrick Alessandrin (District 13: Ultimatum) with Clive Owen set to take on ruthless Mexican gangsters in place of Walker.
