Pierre Morel Talks New Dune, Says It's 'All About the First Book'
Barely a week ago, it was announced that French director Pierre Morel would be taking over the Dune adaptation in the works at Paramount. He was hired to replace Peter Berg, who had dropped out to make Battleship instead. Coming from the action films Taken and From Paris with Love, this was exciting news, especially because I think he'll do a great job with the material. MTV caught up with Morel and asked him about his interest in this project and his plans for it. The good news: "Oh my God yes, I've been a fan of that book - because I will not refer to [Lynch's] movie - I've been a fan of the book since I was a teenager."

James Cameron's Entire Avatar Screenplay is Online for Free
While there's been nothing but universal praise for the stunning visuals in James Cameron's box office behemoth Avatar, there's been quite the negative chatter against Cameron's writing for the other-worldly epic. Words like unoriginal, hollow and even racist have been circling the internet in regards to the story, and I'm sure there's more to come after Cameron's Writer's Guild Awards nomination for Best Original Screenplay for the Avatar script. Now you can decide for yourself as SimplyScripts (via Rope of Silicon) points out 20th Century Fox has posted the entire Avatar screenplay for download free and legally.

DiBonaventura Pictures Gives Antoine Fuqua Consent to Kill
No he's not moving from the director's chair to a sniper's perch, but Variety says director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Tears of the Sun) will direct the spy thriller Consent to Kill for DiBonaventura Pictures. Though the films logline is being kept under wraps we can gather some semblance of a story from the 2005 Vince Flynn novel of the same name on which the Jonathan Lemkin written script is based on. It follows counter-terrorism agent Mitch Rapp who's battling a Saudi billionaire, an ex-East German Stasi spy and a husband-and-wife team of assassins, all while dealing with a knee injury. Must be one hell of a knee injury.

Zemeckis Chooses a Cast of Unknowns for Yellow Submarine
Yep, Robert Zemeckis is not giving up on motion capture yet, even though he damn well should. Did this guy even see Avatar? Anyway, Heat Vision announced the primary cast for his upcoming remake of The Beatles' Yellow Submarine for Disney. Cary Elwes (Saw, A Christmas Carol) will play George Harrison, Dean Lennox Kelly (BBC's "Robin Hood", ITV's "Collision") will play John Lennon, Peter Serafinowicz (Shaun of the Dead, Couples Retreat) will play Paul McCartney, and Adam Campbell (Date Movie, Epic Movie, "Harper's Island") will play Ringo Starr. An odd cast of unknowns, but maybe that's for the better.

Jon Favreau's Cowboys & Aliens is Losing Robert Downey Jr.
Smart decision, Downey. Last September it was announced that Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. would be re-teaming for the adaptation of Platinum Comics' series Cowboys & Aliens. Not anymore. The LA Times is reporting tonight that Downey will no longer star in the film, but it will still move forward with Favreau attached as director. Production is still tentatively set to begin this year for a release in the summer of 2011. Apparently Downey Jr. left because of "scheduling issues," which is a bit odd considering he hasn't announced what he's going to be working on following Due Date (which already finished shooting anyway).

Check These Out: Gritty New Character Posters for The Crazies
I'm a sucker for great poster designs and I've got to say, these three are pretty damn cool. Overture Films has created three grotesque character posters for their upcoming horror remake The Crazies. These come from Apple (via STYD) and look a lot better full size, so make sure to click the posters. You will probably see these on display at your local movie theater as they're designed to be put side-by-side. I can already imagine lots of people looking at these and saying "that looks gross!" And that's exactly what they're going for - the shock factor! Plus, I love that they crop the top of the head, so you can't tell who they all really are. Enjoy!

Ridley Scott's Robin Hood Will NOT Be Going 3D - Updated
It has begun. Although we learned the other day that Clash of the Titans will (thankfully) not be going 3D, it looks like Universal has done just the opposite and decided to make another careless decision to convert one of their big summer movies to 3D. Hollywood is a greedy place and studios want as much cash as they can get, and when they see Avatar make over a billion, they want to get their hands on some of that money, too. Unfortunately, they're making some completely idiotic decisions, like approving the conversion of Ridley Scott's Robin Hood to 3D for a price tag of $8 million. Not too expensive, but let's see how it performs.

Two More Fast & Furious Movies Are Shifting Into Gear Soon
And you thought this series was already finished! Actor Vin Diesel recently updated his personal Facebook page (via AICN) to reveal that two more installments of the Fast and the Furious franchise might be on the way. Diesel wrote: "If 2009's Fast and Furious was chapter one, what writer Chris Morgan just delivered is Chapter 2 and Chapter 3." So we've got at least two more of these movies on the way. Personally speaking, I imagine a script for something like Fast & Furious to have lots of pictures and small words. But hot damn if the people you knew in high school who put spoilers and body kits on Chrysler LeBaron's aren't excited!

Coen Brothers' Gambit Remake Finally Getting Off the Ground?
The Coen Brothers could make a movie about bowel movements and I would get excited like a little girl. So when I hear that the long gestating heist script Gambit from Joel and Ethan Coen may finally be going into production, well that's just about some of the best news I've heard this year so far. Buried deep in a trade article from Variety (noticed by SlashFilm), there's this little blurb: Producer Mike Lobell "is moving ahead with Gambit, a Joel and Ethan Coen-scripted remake of the 1966 British caper comedy that originally starred Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine." So what if it's another damn remake? It's the Coen Brothers!

Sony Will Be Rebooting Spider-Man All Over Again in 2012!
Amy Pascal: "A decade ago we set out on this journey with Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire and together we made three Spider-Man films that set a new bar for the genre. When we began, no one ever imagined that we would make history at the box-office and now we have a rare opportunity to make history once again with this franchise." Sony just announced (via ComingSoon) that they are rebooting the Spider-Man franchise from scratch, taking Peter Parker all the way back to high school, in a new movie due out in 2012. It looks like they're finally saying goodbye to Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire and everyone from those past movies!

Tom Hanks Writing & Directing a New Film with Julia Roberts
Wow. Nikki Finke reports that Tom Hanks is writing a new film called Larry Crowne that he will star in with Julia Roberts and also direct. As you probably know, Hanks and Roberts starred as lovers in Charlie Wilson's War from a few years ago. I could say something about how they must've really fallen in love but I won't since we're not a gossip site. Larry Crowne is a comedy about a man forced to reinvent himself and find a new career as he navigates the second act of his life. Pretty vague logline, but that's all we got for now. The financing and distribution deals are still coming together, but it sounds like it'll be ready to shoot soon.
