2010 Writers Guild of America Awards Nominees Announced
In addition to the American Society of Cinematographers, the Writers Guild of America has announced their nominees for the 2010 Writers Guild Awards today. The winners will be announced on Saturday, February 20th, from a ceremony held in Los Angeles and New York. There are three separate categories of nominees - original, adapted, and documentary. Last year's big winners were Milk and Slumdog Millionaire, both of which later took home an Oscar, so this might be an early sign that this is what we could see in a few weeks when nominations for the Academy Awards are announced. Read on to see the full list of nominees!

2010 American Society of Cinematographers Awards Nominees
Cinematography is one of the many aspects of filmmaking that I hold in very high regard. For me especially, I'm affected more by extraordinary cinematography than almost anything else in movies. So I'm excited to announced the nominees for the 24th Annual American Society of Cinematographers Awards. Like every other guild in Hollywood, the ASC hosts its own awards to honor the very best cinematographers from this year. If you've been arguing with your friends over who did the best work, then look no further, because these 5 individuals deserve this distinction. Without further a do, let's take a look at this year's nominees.

Producer Says Metal Gear Solid Movie Won't Be Happening
I'm sorry to have to report this, especially for those who are big fans of the video game, but it looks like a Metal Gear Solid movie won't be happening for a long time. Collider caught up with producer Michael De Luca recently and asked him about the status of the Metal Gear Solid movie. Unfortunately De Luca didn't have any good news. "I don't think it's going to move forward because I got the sense that there may not be enough of a coordinated will at this point on the side of certain parties to see a movie get made." As in, Konami, the creator of the game, isn't that interested in any of Sony's ideas. Maybe it's for the better?

Will Arnett Says 'Arrested Development' Will Shoot This Year
Good news for those of you who are fans of "Arrested Development." After years of hearing rumors and rumblings of a movie being in the works, it looks like they're finally going to shoot one this year. Well, it's still a little early to say it'll happen 100%, but with Michael Cera saying it'd shoot this year as well, I think they're really trying to make it happen. ComingSoon talked with Will Arnett recently who confirmed that they're definitely going to shoot it this year. "That's the plan," Arnett told them, before joking that, "We're hoping [to shoot it] once Jason Bateman gets out of rehab. I think that's when we're going to start shooting."

John Malkovich Signs On for Adaptation of DC Comics' Red
Summit Entertainment has already cast Hollywood heavyweights Morgan Freeman, Bruce Willis and even the elegant Helen Mirren in the DC Comics adaptation of Warren Ellis's comic series Red, but now THR's Heat Vision says John Malkovich has signed on to star in the Robert Schwenke directed action thriller. He will be replacing John C. Reilly who was cast last November. Malkovich will play an erratic retired CIA agent who's paranoid that everyone is out to kill him; when he's finally correct in his worries, joins Bruce Willis' character in his quest to find out who wants them dead. Sounds right up Malkovich's alley. Read on!

Check This Out: Netflix Most Popular Rentals Regional Maps
We don't usually talk about Netflix or DVDs on the site, but I'm making an exception today to feature one of the coolest maps I've ever come across (at least for a movie geek like me). The NY Times built a website with a series of maps they call: "A Peek Into Netflix Queues." Essentially they created regional maps for 12 cities with rental patterns for 100 frequently-rented titles in those cities. It was created from data collected in 2009 (so it's not real time, it's historical) that Netflix provided for each zip code. It can also be organized by metascore with the highest ranking films listed (to see what region of cinephiles rented those the most).

Indie Trailer Sunday: Canadian Western Spoof 'Gunless' Teaser
Now here's a fun teaser trailer for a Canadian film called Gunless. I first heard about this last year at the Toronto Film Festival. It had been described as a western without guns, but it's not exactly that. It's a western, that's for sure, but the twist is that the Canadian town this American gunslinger ends up is gunless, while our hero - The Montana Kid - is not gunless. It's kind of a fish-out-of-water film, but it's also a play on westerns that makes fun of Americans. It stars Canadian actor Paul Gross, who was on "Due South" and "Eastwick", and also Sienna Guillory. It's a very short teaser, but I've got to admit, it does look quite fun.

Malkovich Seemingly Confirms He'll Be Vulture in Spider-Man 4
It's odd to report this when we already know that Spider-Man 4 is officially on hold until further notice, but then again, this is a pretty good story and it will probably make a few people upset. Our Italian friends at BadTaste.it sent an email over this morning informing us that actor John Malkovich had appeared on an Italian TV show called "Quelli Che il Calcio" and spoke about his involvement in Spider-Man 4. Nearly a month ago, it was discovered that Malkovich was Sam Raimi's top choice for the role of the villain Vulture. While we don't have a complete transcript from the show, it sounds like he did confirm that he's on-board.

Star Trek Sequel Hits in 2012, Wolverine 2 is Shooting in 2011
I think Hollywood can only see two years into the future. Now that it's 2010, that means it's time to start scheduling movies for 2012. Last year they didn't go beyond 2011. Anyway, first things first, ComingSoon has learned that Paramount has set a June 29th, 2012 release for the untitled Star Trek sequel. I would call it Star Trek 2, but I was already informed previously that this is technically the 12th Star Trek movie, so that title wouldn't be inaccurate. In related 2012 news, SHH found a video with Hugh Jackman chatting about shooting Wolverine 2 starting early to mid-2011. Therefore we can also expect that to hit in 2012.

Check These Out: Photos from French Zombie Film 'La Horde'
Not to be confused with the other French horror film The Pack, this is its own breed of horror. La Horde, or obviously just The Horde in English, was recently picked up by IFC Films for US distribution sometime this year. In addition to that news, our friends at Arrow in the Head scored a good batch of new photos from the film as well as a look at the French poster (which I've cropped a bit for the photo above). You can watch an early teaser for the film, but I suggest starting with these photos, since they just look insane. La Horde is part of the "political French horror" movement and played at the Venice Film Festival last year. Proceed!

Must Watch: Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass Theatrical Trailer!
Lionsgate debuted a second full-length theatrical trailer for Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass today. At this point, after two other previous trailers, I don't think this movie needs an introduction. And I don't think I need to tell you that this looks totally frickin' awesome! If you're not convinced to go see this after watching this trailer, then there really is no hope for you! You should be able to tell by now what's going on. Anyway, I've said enough about the movie, it's time to fire this bad boy up & enjoy. I really do think this is some of the best marketing Lionsgate has ever done and I can't wait for Kick-Ass to hit theaters! Fire it up below.

Blake Lively Lands the Female Lead Role in DC's Green Lantern
Breaking casting news for you on a Friday night. Heat Vision is reporting that Blake Lively has scored the coveted role of the female lead in DC Comics Green Lantern movie that starts filming in March. Lively, who starred in both of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants films and appears on "Gossip Girl", will star opposite Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan. Latino Review revealed last month that director Martin Campbell had narrowed down his top choices for the key role to Lively, Eva Green, Keri Russell, Diane Kruger, and Jennifer Garner, but it looks like it's the girl no one was expecting to be cast that landed the role after all.
