Must Watch: First Official Trailer for DC Comics' The Losers
Warner Bros has debut the official trailer DC Comics' The Losers starring Zoe Saldana as Aisha, Chris Evans as Jensen, Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Clay, Columbus Short as Pooch, Idris Elba as Roque, and Óscar Jaenada as Cougar. This actually looks pretty awesome, I love the style, I love the cast, I love the action, what's not to like? Some comparisons can be made to The A-Team, but I think this has its own good story and since it's based on a DC Comics graphic novel, it's got a lot to draw from that's very different from The A-Team. Anyway, I've said enough, because the action speaks louder than any words. Fire it up and enjoy!

Rumor: Sam Raimi Wants to Direct Adaptation of The Shadow
Though the crimson-scarfed character who started on old time radio has seen countless adaptations into pulp fiction, comic books, comic strips, TV shows and several motion pictures, The Shadow, isn't exactly the most popular or well known of fictional heroes. But that doesn't mean he isn't the most kick-ass, scarf-donning mofo out there. The last incarnation of The Shadow saw Alec Baldwin putting on the trench coat and hat back in 1994, but now IESB reports that the newest adaptation has Sam Raimi (who was already on board to produce for Sony) wanting it to be his next directing gig too, rather than World of Warcraft.

Sundance 2010 Day 8: Winding Down for the Last Few Days
It's currently Day 8 here at Sundance (although technically I'm writing this the morning of Day 9). That means we've got two more full days of the festival left (or maybe three including Sunday?), and hopefully some more good films, but I don't know. The festival is starting to wind down, lots of people are already heading home, and the crowds are starting to dissipate. While there are still films premiering (tomorrow I'm seeing Joel Schumacher's Twelve), at this point it's starting to feel like the festival is already over. It feels like I've been here for month and I'm ready to go home. But, of course, we'll have more coverage for you.

Danny Elfman is Scoring Michel Gondry's The Green Hornet
Great news for fans of Danny Elfman - the legendary composer will apparently be scoring Michel Gondry's The Green Hornet starring Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Cameron Diaz and Christoph Waltz. I received an email earlier tonight linking to Film Score Daily's Top Forty Composer Countdown where, in the #2 spot, they list all kinds of details about Elfman. At the end, they mention that "he returns to the superhero genre with The Green Hornet." This is the first time we've heard anything about this and it's not confirmed by Sony yet, but Film Score Daily is a trustworthy site with a lot of inside information, so I'm fairly certain this is accurate.

Brandon's Sundance 2010 Reviews: Documentary Edition Pt 2
And we're back. It's time for part two of my documentary round-up (read part one here). When I attend a film fest, I often gravitate towards the documentaries being screened rather than narrative features. Of course, I see tons of narratives, but I do my best to keep a high ratio of docs on my schedule for the reason that I already see tons of narrative stories during the year anyway. It's very rare for any documentary to see a wide release. For some really spectacular docs, they never even get a limited release. At film festivals, though, there are always a good amount of docs to choose from. This is especially true for at Sundance.

Early Teaser Poster for Sundance Favorite 'Animal Kingdom'
One great film that I saw very early on at the Sundance Film Festival was Animal Kingdom, directed by Australian filmmaker David Michôd. No, it has nothing to do with Disneyland or even animals at all, it's an intense Departed-like drama about a family of bank robbers in the underworld of Melbourne, Australia. It's a fantastic film, one of my favorites of this fest, even though I never wrote a review for it. I'm hoping it gets picked up for release because I want so many people to see it. But until it gets bought, you can check out this very sleek early teaser poster for the film (courtesy of IMPAwards). Bold design, but I like the look of it.

Flight of the Conchords Co-Creator Directing Muppets Movie!
Flight of the Conchords meets The Muppets? That's what Vulture is saying might happen. They're reporting that James Bobin, co-creator of the cult HBO show Flight of the Conchords (with Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie), is being offered the directing job on the new Muppets movie in development at Disney. Vulture says that no deals have been made, but "the movie is James' to direct — if he wants it." And it may even be in production as soon as the summer. Whoa! But wait, I thought this was Jason Segel's gig? Our last update on this project from last year confirms that Segel is only writing the script, but not directing it.

More Sundance Sales: Hesher, The Kids Are All Right, Twelve
So far at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, there have only been roughly five big sales. Before the fest began, Paramount picked up the documentary Waiting for Superman. Earlier this week we reported that Lionsgate had bought Ryan Reynold's Buried. And earlier today, three more films were officially sold. While there are many great films at Sundance worthy of theatrical distribution, this year's early sales seem a bit odd, to say the least. These are the three sales today: Newmarket Films picked up Hesher, Focus Features picked up The Kids Are All Right, and Hannover House picked up Joel Schumacher's new film Twelve.

Watch This: US Trailer for Roman Polanski's The Ghost Writer
Summit has finally debuted the official US trailer for Roman Polanski's The Ghost Writer over on Apple. We ran an international trailer for this a few weeks back, but this new version is a bit different and worth watching even if you've seen the other one. The Ghost Writer stars Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan, Olivia Williams, and Kim Cattrall. I've seen it and it's a fantastic film, potentially one of my favorites of 2010. And if you're not completely interested in seeing it after watching this trailer, then I don't think there's anything else I can say to convince you. Give it a chance and give Polanski a chance, he's still a fantastic filmmaker.

MacGruber Viral Video? Or An Unfunny Wannabe SNL Short?
I've admitted that I actually enjoyed the trailer for MacGruber, Will Forte's SNL skit-turned-movie, even though I'm not a fan of SNL. Maybe I've just got some hope that it could be entertaining or maybe I was just told by the gorgeous cinematography and explosions (probably the latter, to be honest). Collider found this viral video for MacGruber that's a 38-second behind-the-scenes "short" titled Hotties with Bodies. And it sucks. It's just frickin' awful. I think they were trying to create a digital short and somehow the marketing execs at Universal thought it was good. But that's just my opinion. Others may find it funny? Take a look.

Brandon's Sundance Review: Derek Cianfrance's Blue Valentine
I've been trying to start this review for three days. When I started the first time, I opened with how much I love this film, Blue Valentine (I do) and how much it made me feel and confront after seeing it (tons, on both charges). I've began by comparing the film to the lot of my relationships and how honest, real, and passionate a depiction of love the film is. (It's certainly that, too.) I even began a draft where I attempted to remove all of my connections and emotions. The next time, I wrote about the lush cinematography, brilliant performances, truthful writing, and sublime direction. While all of the previous is true, it was impossible to

Sarah Polley Gets Seth Rogen & Michelle Williams for 'Waltz'
While there are plenty of actors turned directors nowadays, you'll be hard pressed to find many actresses who also sit in the director's chair. Jodie Foster comes to mind, and Drew Barrymore recently made the plunge with Whip It, but there's not a strong presence. However, Sarah Polley is one of those rare talents who has not only starred in a variety of films like Go, Dawn of the Dead, and most recently the Sundance selection Splice, but she's shown potential directing Away From Her. Now Deadline Hollywood says Polley has lined up her next project, Take the Waltz, with Seth Rogen and Michelle Williams on board.
