I thought I'd highlight two upcoming independent films today which now have release dates. First up, The Playlist has learned that First Look Pictures is releasing Tim Blake Nelson's Leaves of Grass starring double Edward Nortons (watch the trailer). They've slated it for release on April 2nd. Secondly, thanks to a post on Twitch, we've also learned that Shinjuku Incident, the gritty R-rated gangster movie from Hong Kong starring Jackie Chan (watch the trailer), is hitting this this weekend on February 5th. Visit their website for theater listings in California, Georgia, Hawaii, New Jersey, New York, Texas, and Washington.
I'm personally a big fan of Leaves of Grass because I saw it up in Toronto and loved it (read my review). I also interviewed both Tim Blake Nelson and Edward Norton together during TIFF - watch that interview. It's a great dramedy that I had a lot of fun watching and I can't wait to see it again once it hits theaters. As for Shinjuku Incident, we ran an early trailer for it a year ago, and ever since then I've been anxious to see it. I'm a lifelong fan of Jackie Chan but haven't enjoyed anything from him in the last few years. Seeing him go gritty and crazy in a drama like this seems awesome. Can't wait to see that, too! Planning to see either?
