Story Details Discovered for Chris Sparling's New Script 'ATM'

ATM Building

Buried was one of the hottest films coming out of Sundance this year which means big things for director Rodrigo Cortés and writer Chris Sparling. We reported back in February right after the fest that Sparling had sold anther one of his spec scripts titled ATM to Gold Circle Films and Safran Co. The story focuses on three co-workers who unexpectedly end up in a desperate fight for their lives on a seemingly routine stop at the ATM. SlashFilm was just sent details about what the story is actually about (without spoiling anything) and it sounds pretty damn cool. Read on to find out a bit more about this new stuck-in-one-place thriller.

More Frankenstein Coming from a Dean Koontz Adaptation

Dean Koontz' Frankenstein

Plenty of varying iterations of the classic monster story Frankenstein are on the way. Patrick Tatopoulos is putting the bolt-necked monster into a film noir setting with I, Frankenstein. We'll see the big-forehead battle the big-chin in Bruce Campbell Vs. Frankenstein, and at some point, Guillermo Del Toro plans to do his own Frankenstein with master of disguises, Doug Jones. Now Variety reports 1019 Entertainment will be adapting Dean Koontz's Frankenstein series which puts the iconic doctor, now a socially prominent and successful businessman, and his super-human original creation Deucalion, in modern day New Orleans.

Oscar Nominees Told to Prepare Two 'Thank You' Speeches

Best Directors

Producers of this year's Academy Awards - Adam Shankman and Bill Mechanic - are taking a slightly different approach to the show this year, streamlining as much as they can and focusing on the entertaining parts if the ceremony that people actually enjoy watching. One change they're making is now giving Oscar winners the opportunity to thank more people on a "Thank You Cam" backstage which will be streamed online. Reuters reports that the producers are telling nominees to keep their on-stage thank yous shorter and plan for full thank you backstage at the "Thank You Cam" in order to keep the show moving swiftly.

Must Watch: Official Trailer for Woody Harrelson's Defendor

Defendor Trailer

A new official trailer for the release of Peter Stebbings' comedy Defendor starring Woody Harrelson and Kat Dennings has debuted on Trailer Addict. We originally featured an early trailer for this wacky superhero comedy last September before its premiere in Toronto, but this new trailer is a better representation of what to expect from the movie. Yes, the cinematic marketplace is getting a bit saturated with superhero comedies (like Kick-Ass) but this is one that I suggest seeing because Woody Harrelson gives a great performance and because it is mildly entertaining. It's not that bad, but it's not really that amazing either. Watch and enjoy!

Tron Legacy Viral Back in Action - Flynn Lives Zero Hour Site

Tron Legacy Viral

This is the perfect day for another viral to kick back into action. ComingSoon says that one of their readers in Puerto Rico received a box from the Flynn Lives group (flynnlives.com) containing a big, odd, red star plus a URL written inside the box that points to flynnlives.com/zerohour. This Tron Legacy viral kicked off last summer during Comic-Con, where Flynn's Arcade tokens were sent out and an actual arcade was discovered in San Diego (see photos here). We're not sure where this is going to take us next, but it looks like the next phase of this Tron Legacy viral is starting. Can't wait to see what's in store for us viral geeks!

Andy Serkis & Nick Cave Making a Mo-Cap 'Threepenny Opera'

Andy Serkis / The Threepenny Opera

A few of you may be wondering what I'm talking about, which is exactly what I'll get into soon. Truth be told, before writing this, I didn't know what The Threepenny Opera was either, but I'm here to explain. ScreenDaily is reporting (from the Berlin Film Festival) that Bertolt Brecht & Kurt Weill's German musical The Threepenny Opera is being adapted for the big screen by actor Andy Serkis and musician Nick Cave. They don't reveal much about the project in the article on ScreenDaily, but the announcement was officially made today in "its hometown," as The Threepenny Opera was first performed in Berlin in 1928. Gorgeous New Minimalistic Japanese Poster for The Wolfman

Wolfman Poster

Okay, okay, I know that no one wants to talk about The Wolfman anymore given that it's not the greatest movie and it only made $36 million over the weekend at the box office (at least it's in third place). However, I just came across this today (via IMPAwards) and it's too incredible for me to pass up. I consider myself a connoisseur of the best movie posters, and this poster here is easily one of my all-time favorites. I love the minimalistic design of it and everything else is just brilliant. No need to show any actors or the werewolf itself or anything but a bit of blood and some spooky trees. This is some impressive design work - check it!

Check This Out: James Cameron as a Na'vi + New Interview

James Cameron as a Na'vi

I guess I'm writing about this only because it's a holiday and I really wanted to show you guys how totally awesome this James Cameron as a Na'vi painting is, so check it out below. Hero Complex has a new blog interview up with James Cameron talking about how he had to cut a "epiphanal scene" featuring Jake and Tsu'tey from Avatar because "there was one dramatic beat too many." He also goes on to talk briefly about how Avatar is his most personal film he's ever made because it has been sort of a culmination of all things in his life that have fascinated him, underwater and as a kid. It's a pretty interesting little interview featurette.

Quentin Tarantino Reveals More About His 'Slavery Western'

Quentin Tarantino

Quentin Tarantino has been making the rounds worldwide since last August, doing hardcore press for Inglourious Basterds in hopes that it takes home some Oscars on March 7th. He's been talking a lot about what's next for him, which we know won't be Kill Bill Vol. 3 (yet), but will be either a western or a gangster movie. The idea of Tarantino doing a western is what excites me the most, so that's what I'd love to see him do next, but what would be about? While talking with NY Daily News, Tarantino unveiled an idea he has for a western, but who knows if we'll ever actually see something like this actually come together. Read on!

Awesome: Kotobukiya's New Iron Man 2 Statue from Toy Fair

Iron Man 2 Statue

It's a holiday today which means most businesses in the US are closed, but one event that is still running is the annual Toy Fair in New York City. A lot of new toys and statues and figures are being unveiled this year and there are some great round-ups (check SlashFilm or Collider as well as Upcoming Pixar for Toy Story 3 toys). However, the one new statue I want to feature today is the new Iron Man 2 statue from the Japanese company Kotobukiya. The quality of their products is matched only by Sideshow Collectibles and this new statue looks awesome (and I happen to have the Iron Man version myself - seen in that photo below as well).

Another New International Teaser Trailer for Despicable Me

Despicable Me Trailer

Universal has debuted another brand new teaser trailer for their big summer animated movie Despicable Me over on the Times Online in the UK (via SlashFilm). In December we were introduced to Gru's minions, those annoying little yellow guys that are both likable and hateable (depending on who you are), and now we get to see more of them. I still don't really know what these guys are supposed to do and I still really don't know what this movie is actually about, but it is looking a little bit better with each and every new teaser. So by July it should look good, right? I don't know, I just can't get behind this movie at all. What do you think?
