Russell Brand is the Gordon Bombay of High School Soccer
There have been countless films with big actors leading a hapless sports team struggling against seemingly insurmountable odds to get to the championship and learn what sportsmanship is all about. Will Ferrell did it recently in Kicking and Screaming, but I don't think anyone did it better than Emilio Estevez as Mighty Ducks coach Gordon Bombay. Now Deadline Hollywood reports Russell Brand will take a crack at it as he's attached to a pitch as a David Beckham-like millionaire soccer star/playboy who gets arrested and must do community service coaching the high school soccer team in a Friday Night Lights-esque town. Read on!

Must Watch: Brand New Official Trailer for Pixar's Toy Story 3
Disney has just debuted another new theatrical trailer for Pixar's Toy Story 3 today on MySpace. We've seen a teaser and a full trailer for this before, but it's always great to see new trailers, especially those with a lot of new footage for exciting upcoming Pixar movies. This trailer was released in conjunction with a new photo as well that features 14 new characters that will be seen in Toy Story 3. Anyway, it looks like there's a LOT more to the story that we didn't know - a wooden bridge over a canyon and a train and explosion? What is going on? Ah I'm so very excited to see this movie - can't wait till June. Check out the new trailer below!

Confirmed: Bubo the Mechanical Owl is in Clash of the Titans
Okay, I know, I know, that headline is a bit much, but I'm a huge Clash of the Titans fan. And from the very start, the first thing I was wondering about the remake was whether Bubo the Owl was going to be in it. Laugh all you want, but that owl kicks some ass in the original 1981 movie (not really, but he is pretty damn cool). Anyway, Film School Rejects just caught up with some of the writers of the remake - Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi - and asked them, straight up, if Bubo was in it. Yes, Bubo is in it, he supposedly gets a "loving cameo." Although, it's only one scene, and it could supposedly end up on the cutting room floor.

Alicia Silverstone and Amy Heckerling Reuniting for Vamps
Yes, she's coming back! ScreenDaily (via SlashFilm) is reporting that Alicia Silverstone will be reuniting with Clueless director Amy Heckerling for her upcoming vampire love movie Vamps. The project was first announced last November, described as a "romantic comedy with vampires." The script, by Heckerling, focuses on two young female vampires living the good life in New York until love enters the picture and each has to make a choice that will jeopardize their immortality. From the director of Clueless? Sounds fun! And with the star of Clueless, too? Even better! I already like this more than Diablo Cody's Sweet Valley High.

Dune & National Lampoon's Vacation Reboots Get New Writers
Pretty soon Hollywood is just going to blow our mind and there's going to be a reboot of the Canadian computer animated series "ReBoot" and then we're all going to be in deep shit. Right now we've got news on two very different reboots getting some writers to work as Variety reports TV writer Jonathan Goldstein and actor turned writer John Francis Daley will be writing the newest installment of the National Lampoon's Vacation series (which will henceforth drop National Lampoon from the title). THR also reports that Chase Palmer has been hired to write the newest draft of Dune for director Pierre Morel.

Richard Matheson's 'Earthbound' Headed to the Big Screen
Another novel from Richard Matheson, the legendary author behind fantastic books like I Am Legend, The Shrinking Man, and What Dreams May Come, is headed to the big screen. THR is reporting that Matheson's 1982 novel Earthbound has been optioned by Parkes/MacDonald Productions, a producing outfit run by Walter Parkes & Laurie MacDonald, who have a first-look deal at Spielberg's DreamWorks; they also recently picked up rights to the book Eat, Sleep, Poop and the Museum of SuperNatural History adaptation. Ronnie Christensen, of Passengers and some TV movies previously, will write the screenplay.

Pierce Brosnan, Ed Harris & Jim Gaffigan Pray for 'Salvation'
It's not everyday you hear about a comedic thriller going into production, so let's fill that void with Variety's report that Pierce Brosnan, Ed Harris and Jim Gaffigan will star in Salvation Boulevard, an indie comedic thriller set in the world of mega-churches in which a former Deadhead-turned-born again-Christian finds himself on the run from fundamentalist members of his mega-church who will do anything to protect their pastor. And that's the sound of offended zealots scoffing at this blasphemy. Taking the blame will be director George Ratliff (Joshua) who also wrote the screenplay with Wag the Dog writer Larry Beinhart.

New Poster for Disney Animation Doc 'Waking Sleeping Beauty'
This could end up being my favorite documentary of the year. SlashFilm has debut the official poster for a documentary called Waking Sleeping Beauty that I saw at the Telluride Film Festival last year (read my review). The doc is about the 10 years in Disney Animation's history between 1984 and 1994 where the studio went from almost shutting down to immense success (with films like Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King) before falling apart again with Michael Eisner's resignation. Disney is releasing it limited in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco on March 26th - you won't want to miss it!

First Trailer for Robert Luketic's Killers with Ashton Kutcher
Lionsgate has debuted the trailer for Robert Luketic's Killers, previously known as Five Killers, starring Ashton Kutcher, Katherine Heigl, and Tom Selleck. Believe it or not, a movie called Killers is actually a light-hearted romantic comedy. I was hoping this would look good, but damn it looks awful! The first problem is that it spends more than half of the trailer pretending to be a cheesy rom-com. The second problem is that it looks like a worse version of Mr. & Mrs. Smith or any of those damn movies where someone doesn't know their lover is really a killer. The third problem... Well, you get what I'm trying to say. Check it out below.

The Book of Eli's Hughes Brothers Helming Live-Action Akira
Did you see The Book of Eli? And did you enjoy it? If you did enjoy it (like I did), then you're going to love this news. Vulture was the first to announce today that Albert and Allen Hughes, more commonly known as the Hughes Brothers, are in negotiations with Warner Bros to helm the live-action adaptation of the 1988 anime (and 1982 manga) Akira. We heard this was on its way a few years back when Ruairi Robinson was originally attached to direct. I even heard that Zack Snyder was offered the job once but declined. Now it looks like it's up to the Albert and Allen Hughes to bring the legendary anime into the live-action realm.

Must Watch: Full Trailer for Shyamalan's The Last Airbender
Paramount has debuted the theatrical trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender over on Yahoo, although it will also be playing in front of Percy Jackson & the Olympians this weekend. Last week we got a small tease of what was to come in the Superbowl TV Spot but now we've got the full thing and it's as epic and awesome as I was expecting. There's a little big more of a backstory in this (for those that aren't familiar with the show) but then it gets right into the action following that. The effects look great, the story looks a bit cheesy, but I'm in, I can't wait! We'll probably see one more trailer before June, too. Excited?

Writer Allan Loeb Reignites the Escape from New York Remake
Back in 2007, you might remember hearing about an Escape from New York remake with Gerard Butler playing Snake Plissken and Len Wiseman set to direct. Then some cages were rattled when rumors of Brett Ratner taking over the production started swirling until he later denied any involvement, then suddenly Butler dropped from the film due to "creative differences." Now a creative difference has given new life to the remake as Vulture reports that writer Allan Loeb (who saved Wall Street 2 from development hell) has written a script that not only is loyal to Snake Plissken as a hard-ass, but to studios for making it cheaper.
