Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling Now Set to 'Drive'
It's almost been an entire year since we last heard about the adaptation of James Sallis' novel Drive, which centers on a Hollywood stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway driver in heists. At the time, Neil Marshall was going to be directing Hugh Jackman in the action flick, but now Empire reports that writer/director Nicolas Winding Refn (Bronson) will be helming the adaptation with Ryan Gosling in the driver's seat of his first action movie. Refn said: "Hopefully next is a movie with Ryan Gosling at a studio in America. It's called Drive, and it's about a stuntman by day, a getaway driver by night." Sounds like that's the right one.

Sony Confirms New Spider-Man Movie Coming in 3D in 2012
This isn't really earth-shattering or heart-stopping news, but it's important to hear anyway. Sony has issued a press release today confirming that the new Spider-Man movie (currently called just Spider-Man again), being directed by Marc Webb, will "swing" into theaters worldwide on July 3rd, 2012 in glorious 3D. The new film, which is still untitled, will begin production later this year directed by Marc Webb from a script by James Vanderbilt. Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin will produce the film from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios. There aren't any other updates on this reboot besides that release date and 3D confirmation today.

Penelope Cruz Joining the Cast of Pirates of the Caribbean 4
Wait what? This isn't a joke. Heat Vision is reporting that the beautiful Penelope Cruz is "in negotiations" to join the cast of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth installment in the series being directed by Rob Marshall. We don't know much about who Cruz will be playing, but she's apparently "[Jack] Sparrow's foil and equal in many ways." So she's kind of a villain? And a pirate as well? Oh joy! So is everyone ready to see Penelope Cruz get covered in grime and dirt and become a nasty pirate in Pirates of the Caribbean? She's probably the last person I would've ever cast! Shooting starts this summer in Hawaii.

Disney Cutting Down Alice in Wonderland's Theatrical Run
A couple of my industry colleagues have been pointing out an article found on Hollywood Reporter that addresses an interesting issue regarding the theatrical run of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, which hits theaters in 2D and 3D on March 5th. The article says that a normal "first run" for a theatrically released mainstream movie is up to 16 weeks, but Disney's CEO Bob Iger has decided to experiment with a shorter run - only 13 weeks - in order to get the movie out on DVD and Blu-Ray quicker. In theory, they know it'll sell well on home video and they don't want to lose sales waiting to switch formats. Is this really an issue?

Wes Craven Might Be Directing a Film Called 'Sunflower' Next
Another new horror project for Wes Craven? Bloody-Disgusting is reporting on a tip they received saying that Craven might direct a film called Sunflower written by Misha Green ("Sons of Anarchy", "Heroes"). The horror film "follows a woman on the verge of running away from her life is uprooted when a seemingly straight-faced professor abducts her forcing to play a part in his twisted world." Sounds kind of interesting. There's no official confirmation on this yet, and BD reminds us that Craven could be directing Scream 4 in the next few months. Could he do both of these projects? Which one will he end up directing in the end?

Hong Kong Studio Imagi Animation Has Officially Shut Down
Over a year ago we reported that Imagi Animation, the animation studio behind TMNT and last year's Astro Boy, was having financial problems and was temporarily shutting down. Following that news I was called by Imagi's CEO and told that they were waiting for extra funding, but Astro Boy would be delivered on time. Indeed it was delivered on time, but it unfortunately wasn't big of success at all (making only $19.5 million in the US on a $65 million budget). It looks like that was the final nail in their coffin as Imagi has officially shut down. This news was originally reported by Twitch and confirmed by the Associated Press.

Emily Browning Replaces Mia Wasikowska in 'Sleeping Beauty'
This definitely isn't Disney's Sleeping Beauty. The film is a new project from first-time filmmaker Julia Leigh, an Australian novelist making her feature debut. She originally cast up-and-comer Mia Wasikowska as the lead, but The Playlist is reporting that Emily Browning (of The Uninvited previously as well as Zack Snyder's upcoming SuckerPunch) has replaced her in the role. The film is described as "a haunting erotic fairy tale about a student who drifts into prostitution and finds her niche as a woman who sleeps, drugged, in a 'Sleeping Beauty chamber' while men do to her what she can‘t remember the next morning." Uh, whoa.

New Story Details on The Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time
A few weeks ago it was confirmed that Flight of the Conchords co-creator James Bobin would be directing the Jason Segel-written Muppets (revival) movie for Disney. Originally we heard that the title was supposed to be The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made!, but now according to a script review up on The Playlist, the title will now be The Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time. Seems like they're really going all out on this one, almost like this is going to be the last Muppets movie we ever see. To save everyone from learning too much about the story, I've pulled out the most important parts below, so it's a only a simple plot synopsis.

Zombieland Writers Talk About Ideas for the Next 3D Sequel
"There absolutely will be a sequel, and it will absolutely be in 3-D," Zombieland co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick revealed to MTV. "Now, it's just a question of what that sequel will be. It's not a question of having enough ideas, but almost having too many ideas. We have a lot of ideas!" And what might those ideas be? Let's find out! As you probably know, Reese & Wernick have quickly become two of Hollywood's hottest writers, getting hired for this sequel, the G.I. Joe sequel, and Deadpool, all in the last few months. Tron Legacy Director Joe Kosinski Talks Black Hole Remake
With the highly anticipated Tron Legacy not slated to hit theaters until this December, freshmen director Joseph Kosinski still has 11 months of hard work ahead of him before the film's release. But that didn't stop him from looking ahead to his remake of the 1979 sci-fi flick The Black Hole. Kosinksi sat down with MTV and not only revealed that Clash of the Titans writer Travis Beacham will start working on the script soon, but he also talked about the film conceptually and just how much of the original we can expect to see. One thing he made perfectly clear is that this is a straight up re-imagining of the story. Read on for more!

Stan Lee Says Edgar Wright's Ant-Man Movie is Coming Soon
Oh, that sneaky Stan Lee. Or rather "Smilin Stan Lee" as he's known on Twitter. The legendary comic book maestro wrote a few tweets today about upcoming Marvel movies. Lee wrote, after presumably having lunch with Edgar Wright, that: "Marvel is prepping a movie starring -- Ant Man!" Now, we've known this for a long time, what we don't know, however, is how soon Marvel Studios wants to get the Ant-Man movie into production. I wouldn't take this as a sure sign that it's officially happening, as Stan Lee doesn't exactly work for Kevin Feige, and he's the one who makes all the decisions at Marvel Studios. But you never know?
