Soderbergh Catches 'Contagion' with Damon, Winslet & More

Matt Damon / Steven Soderbergh

Despite the fact that Steven Soderbergh is currently hard at work on the action thriller Knockout, he's already lining up quite the cast for his next project. Last we heard his next was supposed to be the biopic about pianist Liberace with Michael Douglas and Matt Damon. Now Deadline Hollywood (& The Playlist) are reporting that he's keeping Damon around, adding Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard and Jude Law, and trading in the biopic for the action thriller Contagion, focused on the worst-case scenario involving a deadly virus. Shooting will start later this year for a 2011 debut, though they don't have a distributor yet.

Pseudo Mr. & Mrs. Smith Prequel On the Way Without Pitt/Jolie

Mr. & Mrs. Smith

And we're back again with our (at least) daily announcement of a reboot, sequel, prequel; this time word comes from NY Mag's Vulture that Fox's Regency Enterprises is moving forward with Mr. & Mrs. Jones, a pseudo-prequel to the 2005 action comedy Mr. & Mrs. Smith which spawned the paparazzi's even more intense obsession with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. However, the flash to the past will not feature Pitt and Jolie, but rather is sort of an origin story of a similar but differently named couple, showing how a pair of twenty-something spies are set up as a fake married couple when they graduate agency training. How fun.

David Goyer & Jonathan Nolan Working on Batman 3 Script?

Flaming Batman Symbol

It's another one of "these" stories. Yes, the sequel to The Dark Knight is coming, it's just taking some time. And yes, they're probably working on a script right now, even though Chris Nolan is still finishing Inception. Just this past weekend, David S. Goyer announced that he was leaving the ABC show FlashForward to work on "feature projects." Although he directed The Unborn and was FlashForward's showrunner, Goyer also put together the story for The Dark Knight and co-wrote Batman Begins, too. However, it shouldn't be an immediate assumption that the "feature project" he's working on instead is indeed Batman 3. Read on!

Newsweek's Oscar Roundtable with Six of 2009's Best Actors

Newsweek's Oscar Roundtable

Back in December, THR hosted a roundtable interview with the six soon-to-be-nominated Best Directors of 2009 (sadly, Peter Jackson was the one who didn't make the Oscar cut). Following in suit, Newsweek put together their own big roundtable interview after the Academy Awards nominations were announced. Their new series, called simply Oscar Roundtable 2010, includes one big roundtable interview with these six great actors: Jeff Bridges, Morgan Freeman, Carey Mulligan, Sandra Bullock, Gabourey Sidibe and Woody Harrelson. You can check out one of the video clips below or head over to their site for more. Check 'em out!

Joel Edgerton & Mary Elizabeth Winstead Cast in The Thing

Joel Edgerton / Mary Elizabeth Winstead

Last month we got word that the new take on The Thing (previously remade in 1982 by John Carpenter and Howard Hawks) would begin shooting sometime in March. Now we've got word from Heat Vision that Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Death Proof, Live Free or Die Hard) and Joel Edgerton (Smokin' Aces, Animal Kingdom) have joined the cast of the sci-fi thriller. Last we heard, the story was supposed to show the story of the Norwegian camps in the Antarctic that were ravaged by "The Thing" before the Americans (in the original) discovered the decimated camps, but Heat Vision doesn't allude to this being a prequel.

The Invaders Will Appear in Joe Johnston's Captain America

Captain America

As expected, there's a lot of big Captain America news hitting the web this weekend because director Joe Johnston is finally out talking to press. In addition to all the details we learned about the movie yesterday, over at CHUD they've confirmed with Johnston himself that The Invaders, a WWII superteam that Cap and Bucky are a part of, will be in the movie, too. In fact, "they'll be in the entire second half," Johnston told them. It was first rumored last year that The Invaders might make an appearance but now we know they're officially involved. So does that mean we might see up to "nine costumed characters" in this movie total?

Pseudo 'Valentine's Day' Sequel 'New Year's Eve' in Works

Valentine's Day

That's right, ladies and gentlemen, that cheesy Hallmark holiday movie that shoves no less than 15 huge Hollywood stars into one feature already has a pseudo sequel in the works. Despite the fact that every actor in the Valentine's Day will probably have less than 10 minutes of screen-time, this ensemble cast formula (which is surprisingly cheap for the number of in-demand talents involved) is proving to be pretty hot. So hot that producers Toby Emmerich and Richard Brener are already looking at a new script from Valentine's Day writer Katherine Fugate that takes the ensemble romantic comedy and sets it on New Years Eve.

Sam Worthington Confirmed for Murder Mystery 'The Fields'

Sam Worthington

Last November, we heard a rumor regarding the casting of Bradley Cooper and Sam Worthington in The Texas Killing Fields, a film being directed by Ami Canaan Mann (Michael Mann's daughter). Well, two out of three ain't bad as THR confirms that Ms. Mann will indeed be directing the thriller now simply titled The Fields, with Worthington playing a Texas homicide detective who joins with a New York detective to investigate unsolved murders in the Texas bayous. No word on who will play the other detective, so there's a chance that Cooper could still be in the cards, but at this point, Worthington is the only one officially cast.

Watch This: Disney's New Prince of Persia Superbowl TV Spot

Prince of Persia

"The gods have a plan for you." The only other TV spot that aired during the Superbowl that wasn't already online before was for Disney's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. I know everyone isn't too keen on this movie, but I'm still very excited for it, I don't know why. I loved the video game and I don't have any complaints about this (no, I don't care about Jake Gyllenhaal playing the "Persian"). And I love the reversal halfway into this TV spot. I think that may be a hint that we're going to see some big time reversal moments in this movie and I can't wait to see that. Anyway, I've said enough, check out the new Superbowl TV spot!

Watch This: Disney's Alice in Wonderland Superbowl TV Spot

Alice in Wonderland TV Spoter

Disney aired their Superbowl TV spot for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and it can be watched online below. Its got some new footage and new editing and I actually really like it. I'm still not sure if this will be that good of a movie or not (I'm honestly a bit skeptical), but I am looking forward to finally seeing it and then letting you know what I think. But if you're looking for a final boost of interest for Alice, check this out, I think a few of you may be ready to see it in theaters after watching this. Disney should have more TV spots coming during the Superbowl so stay tuned here for any more that pop up once their air. Enjoy it!

Indie Trailer Sunday: First Trailer for Ondine with Colin Farrell

Ondine Trailer

Okay, bear with me, even if you don't like Colin Farrell, I still suggest checking out this trailer for Neil Jordan's Ondine. I actually saw this film at the Toronto Film Festival late last year and quite enjoyed it (although I never wrote a review). This trailer makes it seem way more epic than it actually is, but that said, the film itself is very sweet and charming and kind of a breath of fresh air to watch (especially after watching depressing films). Don't worry, it doesn't turn into a horror/thriller at the end (like this trailer implies), but it's a great film. The Playlist first found this on YouTube last week so I owe them thanks. Watch and enjoy!

Updates on Captain America - Red Skull Confirmed as Villain

Red Skull

Director Joe Johnston has been out talking to press this weekend for his new movie The Wolfman and most of the discussion has ended up focusing on The First Avenger: Captain America. Johnston spoke with Collider and gave them a lot of details about the direction they're heading with the film. Additionally, ComingSoon confirmed (as did AICN) that the villain in Captain America will be Cap's arch-nemesis Red Skull, the Nazi badass whose head is just a red skull. Now this is the kind of awesome stuff that I like to hear because it's getting me very excited about seeing Johnston's Captain America movie come together.
