Bandslam Director Todd Graff to Helm Damn Yankees Musical
Don't be turned off by the fact that Todd Graff directed Bandslam with Vanessa Hudgens because word on the street is that movie is actually pretty good (it has an 80% on Rotten Tomatoes) but was poorly marketed, and actually had a lot more of an edge to it than Disney's teen musical cash cow. Now Graff gets the chance to show off with a bigger musical as Deadline Hollywood reports he'll direct New Line's Damn Yankees, the contemporary adaptation of the 1955 musical about a baseball fan (Jake Gyllenhaal) who sells his soul to the devil (Jim Carrey) to become an all-star to then lead his hapless favorite team to the World Series.

Kurtzman & Orci Adapting Joe Hill's Comic Book Locke & Key
I'm not sure if anyone read the IDW comic Locke & Key, but good news for those who are fans. Back in February of 2008, we announced that Dimension Films had picked up the rights to turn Locke & Key into a feature film. The comic is written by Joe Hill, the son of author Stephen King, whose debut novel was "Heart-Shaped Box." An insider tells Latino Review that the project sat dormant at Dimension, so Hill got a bit upset and decided to move the rights elsewhere. So where is it now? They say that writers/producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci have set it up at Spielberg's DreamWorks, where they'll also produce.

Awesome: Buy Life-Size Replicas of the District 9 Weapons!
There's a reason why Weta Workshop is one of the best special effects companies in the world! Courtesy of SlashFilm we've discovered that Peter Jackson's Weta Workshop out of New Zealand is selling life-size replicas of the alien weapons from Neill Blomkamp's District 9. No, they aren't actually operable, but even if they were, you don't have any alien DNA so you couldn't fire them. "PLEASE NOTE: Unless your genetic makeup is part prawn, you cannot power up or fire this gun." They're also pretty damn expensive (since they are life-size) coming in at around $500 a piece. But damnit, these are freakin' awesome, I really want one!

Must Watch: First Teaser for Luc Besson's 'Adèle Blanc-Sec'
Last year we featured some photos from a new Luc Bession film called Les Aventures Extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec, or just Adèle Blanc-Sec for short, about a young reporter named Adèle Blanc-Sec who happens to be some kind of female Indiana Jones-like French heroine of the early 20th century. Twitch discovered that there was a new trailer on AlloCine and it's pretty damn good. It's kind of creepy in Jurassic Park way and I love the build-up and the world Besson has created. This is just gorgeous. I'm so excited that Luc Besson is back! If you're intrigued in any way, check out this trailer, I guarantee you'll dig it - enjoy!

Watch This: Brand New Red Band for Kevin Smith's Cop Out
You ready for this? MySpace has debuted a brand new red band trailer for Kevin Smith's Cop Out. Don't put this on if you're at work or you may get in trouble - this is some good profanity in this! They even make a joke about an "Unfuckables" porno in this, oh man, gotta love the humor. I know this isn't written by Kevin Smith, but it definitely has his feeling to it, and I'm totally into it. (Although my only complaint is they ruin that joke at the end, but oh well.) I'm guessing most other people aren't into this, based on the reaction from the first trailer, but I don't know. Hopefully this trailer gets you re-interested? We'll see soon - check it out!

'Buried' Writer Chris Sparling Sells Action Spec Script 'ATM'
Last week the Rodrigo Cortes directed, Chris Sparling (seen right above) written indie Buried with Ryan Reynolds hit Sundance, and Alex and Brandon couldn't stop raving about how great it was. The buzz of that film seems to have built some confidence in Sparling as Variety reports the writer has sold the action spec script ATM, for newcomer David Brooks to direct, which focuses on three co-workers who unexpectedly end up in a desperate fight for their lives on a seemingly routine stop at the ATM. Sparling seems to have quite the knack for making seemingly simple premises become stories of intense danger and intrigue. Read on!

Eric Bana Cast in Joe Wright's Upcoming Action Film 'Hanna'
After watching Eric Bana kick ass in Star Trek, I would love to see him get back into more action roles. Heat Vision is reporting that Bana has joined Joe Wright's new project Hanna starring Saoirse Ronan as a "teenage assassin." Bana will play her father in the story of a 14-year-old Eastern European girl saved from a CIA breeding camp and raised by her dad to be a cold-blooded killing machine. After finding peace with a French family, the girl is dragged back to her father's world, and she must fight her way to a free life. The script was written by newcomers Seth Lochhead & David Farr and has similarities to La Femme Nikita.

Indie Dates: Shinjuku Incident Friday, Leaves of Grass in April
I thought I'd highlight two upcoming independent films today which now have release dates. First up, The Playlist has learned that First Look Pictures is releasing Tim Blake Nelson's Leaves of Grass starring double Edward Nortons (watch the trailer). They've slated it for release on April 2nd. Secondly, thanks to a post on Twitch, we've also learned that Shinjuku Incident, the gritty R-rated gangster movie from Hong Kong starring Jackie Chan (watch the trailer), is hitting this this weekend on February 5th. Visit their website for theater listings in California, Georgia, Hawaii, New Jersey, New York, Texas, and Washington.

Watch This: Ridley Scott's Robin Hood Superbowl TV Spot
Universal has debuted their Superbowl TV spot for Ridley Scott's Robin Hood today over on Yahoo. I guess it's becoming a trend to release your big Superbowl TV spots before the actual Superbowl? Or maybe this is just another random TV spot, because Yahoo doesn't say anything about the Superbowl (although there's no other reason for this to be airing). Anyway, check it out below, it actually looks pretty damn cool. Just like the first trailer, this looks epic and awesome and huge in scope and scale, but it still feels like Gladiator with bows and arrows. Despite that minor criticism, though, I'm still pretty pumped for this. What about you?

Stop Worrying, There's 'Not a Chance' of a Watchmen Sequel
Yesterday, the news of the day was that DC Comics' SVP Dan DiDio was considering turning Watchmen into a franchise with spin-offs, sequels, and more. Although Zack Snyder's Watchmen movie wasn't the biggest success financially or too well received with critics, every last comic book fan knows that creating a sequel to Watchmen would be the biggest mistake anyone could ever make. Nikki Finke over at Deadline Hollywood received an update from a Hollywood insider saying that, thankfully, there's no chance that we'll see a cinematic sequel. As for potential sequels and spin-offs in comics, though, well that's another story.

Must Watch: Shyamalan's Last Airbender Superbowl TV Spot
Paramount has debuted their Superbowl TV spot for M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender a couple of days early (thanks to UGO), probably because an official trailer is hitting early next week as well. I've got to say, this looks pretty frickin' awesome. The more I see from The Last Airbender, the more confident I am that Shyamalan is the perfect director for this. His style plays into it perfectly and the quality of the footage looks great, too. And it looks like they're sparing no expense either, making this look completely awesome and full of effects. I really do hope this is the start of the anime trend in Hollywood. Can't wait to see more!

Danny McBride & Jody Hill Join Together Again for L.A.P.I.
After Will Ferrell and Adam McKay laid eyes upon The Foot Fist Way, writer/director Jody Hill and actor Danny McBride had gotten their breakthrough. Years and years of patience paid off after Hill, McBride and friend David Gordon Green moved out to Hollywood after film school in North Carolina, and now the three are in the thick of it. After the success of their HBO series "Eastbound and Down," I was wondering when Hill and McBride would get back together, and now Variety reports the two will reunite for L.A.P.I. a story (no details are known yet) that has McBride playing a hard-boiled, downtrodden private investigator.
