Spielberg Explains the Importance of Motion Capture for Tintin

Peter Jackson & Steven Spielberg

With all the buzz around the skyrocketing popularity of 3-D after the record breaking Avatar made it big, there should be a much bigger reception for the far more impressive and prominent work in performance capture and the animation that accompanies it. There's a big problem when a spectacular performance from Zoe Saldana doesn't get one bit of serious awards consideration despite plenty of campaigning. LA Times' Hero Complex has some great bits from Steven Spielberg speaking with great wonder and passion about his work on The Adventures of Tintin, which was shot in 3-D with performance capture just like Avatar.

Sound Off: Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island - Your Thoughts?

Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island

Now that you've seen it, what did you think? This movie was originally supposed to hit theaters last October, but it was delayed until this weekend. And as Martin Scorsese's highly anticipated follow-up to The Departed (not counting The Key to Reserva or Shine a Light), there was a lot of early excitement for it, too. Now, only four months later, Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island is in theaters. But does it deliver? Did the trailers ruin the twist? How's the story and script? How does it compare to Scorsese's other recent films? If you've seen it, sound off, leave us a comment below, and let us know what you thought of Shutter Island!

Another Official Red Band Trailer for Kick-Ass Slams Online

Kick-Ass Red Band Trailer

Even more Kick-Ass! Although, I think this is becoming another case of seeing too much footage too close to release. Lionsgate has debuted yet another new red band trailer for Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass today (via MySpace) making this the third separate red band trailer they've released total and seventh Kick-Ass video we've featured since last year. I'm actually not even going to watch this trailer, even though I'm sure it's badass, just because I don't want to see too much from this before I see it at SXSW next month. It'll be in theaters in two months so bear with and you'll be enjoying this in no time! Check it out below if you want.

Cameron Says the Terminator Franchise Has 'Run its Course'

James Cameron

I know this video already made its way around the web, but I think there are a few people who haven't seen it yet and it's a good one. The Terminator franchise hasn't been all that successful since James Cameron left it behind after T2 in 1991. Apparently McG couldn't even get Cameron to give him his blessings for Terminator Salvation and, well, we all know how that turned out. In a recent interview with Cameron, MTV decided to ask him about his thoughts on the Terminator franchise. You already know he's got great things to say in response, so I don't even need to mention anything else, you might as well fire this up and enjoy!

Watch This: Prince of Persia Featurette - Creating an Epic

Prince of Persia Featurette

Disney has debuted a new three-minute behind-the-scenes featurette on IGN for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time that's called "Creating an Epic." You better be excited for this one! I feel like we've seen a lot from this movie already, but it's not even March yet, we've got a lot more to come. However, that doesn't mean this featurette isn't awesome anyway. It's got some cool location stuff, interviews with Bruckheimer, Gyllenhaal, Arterton, Newell, Kingsley, and plenty of new footage, which is always great to see (at least this far out from release). I'm still excited for this but I feel like I'm one of the few. Change anyone's mind?

Ben Affleck Directing & Starring in Yankees Sex Scandal Film

Ben Affleck

Hot on the heels of the news that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck would be revamping their old production company with a deal first look deal at Warner Brothers, comes word from Deadline Hollywood of a project over at WB attaching none other than Affleck himself to direct and star in The Trade, a long gestating feature which focuses on the true story of two New York Yankees pitchers who were caught up in a national scandal by playing real-life wife swap in the wild 1970's. However, despite the time proximity of each of these stories, there's no official word yet on if this project will be coming from Affleck/Damon's new deal.

Amanda Seyfried Might Be the Girl with the Red Riding Hood

Amanda Seyfried

Last August we learned that Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke had picked up a gig directing for a gothic, modern day twist on a Brothers Grimm classic with The Girl with the Red Riding Hood, a story focusing on a damsel in distress with a terrifying werewolf in pursuit. Warner Bros. is hoping to feed off of  the script's "requisite dark/dangerous/romantic elements" in order to appeal pander to Twilight fans. No official casting is in place, but 24 Frames says Amanda Seyfried (Dear John, Jennifer's Body) is on a very short list of young actresses to lead this exploitation of teens' love of the montonous Twilight Saga.

Laurence Fishburne Might Join Soderbergh's Contagion, Too?

Laurence Fishburne

Steven Soderbergh can put together one hell of a cast. He's got Gina Carano, Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, and Mathieu Kassovitz starring in Knockout as we speak. And he's already got Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, Jude Law, and Gwyneth Paltrow set to star in his deadly virus thriller Contagion, which will shoot later this year. The Playlist is now reporting that Laurence Fishburne might end up being cast in a "major role" in Contagion if his schedule works out. And if that happens, this might just be the best cast anyone has ever assembled.

Awesome Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps Theatrical Trailer

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps

"It's easy to get in, it's hard to get out." 20th Century Fox has debuted an international trailer for Oliver Stone's Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps over on The Sun, the British tabloid we've all come to hate. Back during Sundance we featured the first teaser trailer for Wall Street 2 and I thought it looked great, but this looks much better. I'm actually pretty excited for this! I love the plot, I love the setup, I can't wait to see where this goes. I hope Gekko gets back up on top of Wall Street, even though that's rooting for the bad guy, that's what I'd love to see. But the big question is if they show too much in this. I don't think so, do you?

'Splice' Director Vincenzo Natali Digging New 'Tunnels' Next

Tunnels

Even though most of you probably haven't seen Splice yet, you're most likely very familiar with Vincenzo Natali anyway, as he directed Cube, Cypher, and Nothing before Splice. Relativity Media announced today that Natali would next be directing their adaptation of the best-selling children's books written by Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams titled Tunnels. Relative newcomers Simon Sandquist and Joel Bergvall (both of the Oscar nominated short Victor) wrote the screenplay adaptation. "This first installment of the Tunnels franchise will open up a whole new universe of excitement and adventure to audiences [around] the world."

Big Batch of New Photos from Dwight Little's Tekken Movie!

Tekken

Although we showed you an early trailer for this Tekken movie back in January, these new photos are still pretty damn cool to look at. They've been floating around the internet all day today at a lot of places, but I originally saw them at Twitch, although I should point out that io9 has a gallery with additional side-by-side comparisons between the movie and the video game. Here's the thing with this Tekken movie - these photos make it look awesome, or a least like an authentic video game movie. But why do I still feel like it's going to be terrible? I don't know. We're still not sure when the heck this is hitting theaters but take a look anyway!

Joss Whedon & Morgan Spurlock Working On Comic-Con Doc

Joss Whedon / Morgan Spurlock

This is some of the best news this week. E! Online (of all places) is reporting that fan favorite comic geek / director Joss Whedon and filmmaker Morgan Spurlock (of Super Size Me and Where in the World Is Osama Bin Laden?) are teaming up to make a documentary about Comic-Con, the mega geek event that takes place every July down in San Diego. I think it's safe to assume that if you're reading this, not only do you know what Comic-Con is, but you've either been there or desperately want to go, which is why this is great news. The doc will focus on "a still-to-be-cast group of convention-going superfans." Anyone I know?
