Stefan Ruzowitzky to Direct The Last Voyage of the Demeter

Stefan Ruzowitzky

Back in 2007, Austrian writer and director Stefan Ruzowitzky enjoyed true success when his film, The Counterfeiters, took home the Best Foreign Language Oscar. The director has now lined up his next project, making a change from a Holocaust centered story to a genre flick as Heat Vision reports he will direct the English language, period horror film The Last Voyage of the Demeter, an Alien-like story that focuses on the ship which transported Dracula from Transylvania to London. In Bram Stoker's original novel, the ship washes on the shores of England with only one remaining passenger. Is Sigourney Weaver available?

The story was written over a decade ago by Bragi Schut, who has another script, Season of the Witch, hitting theaters this month, but the period setting and need to shoot on the water have prevented this from getting off the ground quickly, despite having directors like Robert Schwentke and Marcus Nispel attached at one point. Apparently production company Phoenix Pictures isn't too worried about any of the costs with the all the extra money they earned from the success of Shutter Island. This pseudo-original story is just the kind we need to see more often. I can't wait to see how this turns out, so stay tuned as we follow its development.
