Rob Cohen Directing Platinum Dunes' Monster Squad Remake

Monster Squad

The Platinum Dunes banner, now partnered with Paramount, and producers Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, have been drinking a lot of the remake Kool-Aid recently with reboots of Friday the 13th and next month's A Nightmare on Elm Street, and it looks like another remake is getting tossed into the mix, as Deadline reports they are developing a remake of the 1987 horror comedy Monster Squad with Fast and the Furious director Rob Cohen set to direct and produce (he also produced the original back in the day). They're currently meeting with writers to get things going on this remake that will surely upset some people.

Jamie Foxx Signs for Video Game Adaptation 'Kane & Lynch'

Jamie Foxx

It's been well over a year since Bruce Willis was officially attached to the big screen adaptation of the video game Kane & Lynch, and we haven't heard much about the project since then. However, screenwriter Kyle Ward recently updated his Twitter page saying: "Done deal… Jamie Foxx is in," before clarifying it was for Kane & Lynch and not the other forthcoming video game adaptations he's working on: Uncharted or the Hitman sequel. However, as seems to be the trend lately with industry impacting Twitter updates, the Tweet has since been removed, but luckily THR's Heat Vision has already confirmed the leak as accurate.

Must Watch: First Full Trailer for Nimrod Antal's Predators!

Predators Trailer

20th Century Fox has debuted the first official trailer for Robert Rodriguez & Nimród Antal's Predators, the reboot of the classic action series that first hit theaters in 1987. Although we featured a rather exciting sneak peek at the movie with all kinds of behind-the-scenes footage just last week, this is the trailer you've all been waiting to see. There was a lot of concern that Rodriguez couldn't pull this off, but I definitely think he might have done just that, as this looks awesome and I'm looking forward to seeing it this summer. I love the characters, I love the jungle setting again, I love Laurence Fishburne and Adrien Brody - so bring it on!

Tim Burton May Direct a Stop-Motion Addams Family Movie

Addams Family

Though I've moderately enjoyed his recent adaptations of Sweeney Todd and Alice in Wonderland (in 3-D no less), I have to admit that I'm a bit frustrated as Deadline reports writer/director Tim Burton will take on a 3-D stop-motion animated film based on Charles Addams' original cartoon creations of The Addams Family. Though the previous film and television incarnations of this drew inspiration from these cartoons, this new animated venture is completely unrelated to them and will instead go back to the litany of Addams illustrations (seen above) that displayed a sharper wit than the classic TV series. So why am I frustrated?

Akiva Goldsman's Directoial Debut Will Be with 'Man & Wife'

Akiva Goldsman

Just the other day there was speculation that writer Akiva Goldsman would make his feature directorial debut with Paranormal Activity 2 until it was revealed he would only join the project as an exec producer. However, it looks like he'll be sitting in the director's chair of a feature length film after all, as LA Times' 24 Frames reports he has officially signed on to direct Man and Wife, an all-too-familiar story of a seemingly ordinary husband who's actually a hitman and what happens when his wife begins to suspect something. If I didn't know better, we already saw a trailer for this, and it's called Killers. But Hollywood loves recycling.

Jennifer Lopez to Star in Sony's New Remake of Overboard

Jennifer Lopez

While you would think that with her sinking career she might have already been tossed of the success ship, THR reports Jennifer Lopez is looking to star in the remake of the 1987 romantic comedy Overboard. The original film starring Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn and directed by Garry Marshall followed a snooty, spoiled woman who falls off her yacht and is taken to the hospital by a local, morally challenged carpenter. When she wakes up with amnesia, he convinces her she is his wife, thereby gaining a free new housekeeper for his four boys. Personally I don't think there is anything romantic or funny about this. It's just pure evil!

Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson Are a Couple of 'Turkeys'

Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson

For quite some time Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson have been great friends, but haven't managed to make a movie together, until now. However, they won't exactly be appearing on-screen together as EW's Hollywood Insider says they will voice two animated turkeys, Reggie and Brock, who find a time machine and travel back to the first Thanksgiving to take themselves off the menu. The film is aptly titled Turkeys and will also feature Luke Wilson's vocal talents as well. I have high hopes for this one as it comes from director Ash Brannon who was responsible for two of my favorite animated films Surf's Up and Toy Story 2.

Bryan Singer Talks About X-Men: First Class and His Return

Bryan Singer

Back in December of last year, on the "blue carpet" for Avatar, director Bryan Singer confirmed that he would definitely be returning to the franchise he created for yet another superhero movie - X-Men: First Class. A few days later it was discovered that Singer's First Class would be focusing on younger versions of Professor X and Magneto. But since then we haven't heard much from Singer or 20th Century Fox about what's going on, but Hero Complex has an update. Like that Chris Nolan update from a few weeks back, Geoff Boucher drills down into some in-depth topics with Singer, including his return to the mutant world.

ShoWest: Alex's Initial Reaction to Jaden Smith's Karate Kid

The Karate Kid

Believe it or not, I loved it. Yep, Sony decided to show their upcoming remake of The Karate Kid starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan to the exhibitor crowd at ShoWest in Las Vegas yesterday. And damnit, I loved it, even though it is a remake of one of everyone's favorites. Before I go any further, yes I've seen the original Karate Kid, and I love the original, but it's a campy 80's classic. This isn't a review since the version we saw was an early cut with a temp score, but this new Karate Kid is a wonderful contemporary homage to the original. It's an entertaining modern version of the same story, but set in an entirely different country.

Sir Ian McKellen Confirms 'The Hobbit' Starts Shooting in July

Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf

Although MGM still hasn't announced if they're being bought or anything else, we're all hungry for updates on The Hobbit. For a while, all we were reporting were updates saying that it was delayed, potentially until 2012, but those weren't confirmed. However, Sir Ian McKellen, aka the lovable Gandalf, has confirmed on his official website that shooting on The Hobbit starts this summer and "will take over a year." He adds that "the first draft [of the script] is crammed with old and new friends, again on a quest in Middle Earth." Yes! Variety also confirmed that it starts shooting in July even though New Line "hasn't officially greenlit [it]."

Jennifer Aniston in The Switch Trailer, Formerly The Baster

The Switch Trailer

Miramax (who we thought wasn't operating anymore?) has debuted a trailer for the new romantic comedy The Switch starring Jennifer Aniston, Jason Bateman, Patrick Wilson, Jeff Goldblum and Juliette Lewis. The original title was The Baster, in reference to the cooking tool that Aniston uses for insemination - but the sperm she chooses gets replaced by someone else's (you'll see who in the trailer) and the kid she has isn't the son of the man she thinks. Unfortunately, they show pretty much the entire movie in the trailer, so after watching this, I don't think I want to see the movie anymore. Take a look and let us know what you think?

Pandorum's Christian Alvart Adapting 'Captain Future' Sci-Fi

Captain Future

I'm not sure how many people actually saw Pandorum last year, the sci-fi horror starring Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster, but I actually thought it was pretty good. I think director Christian Alvart has a great style, so although the story wasn't great, it was a visually stunning film. Quiet Earth recently learned that Alvart has obtained the rights and is currently working on a script for another sci-fi project - an adaptation of the pulp magazine Captain Future. Created in 1939 by Edmond Hamilton, Captain Future is an adventurer and scientist who roams the solar system solving problems, righting wrongs, and vanquishing futuristic villains.
