David Oyelowo is Martin Luther King Jr in Selma, De Niro Out?
After adding Lenny Kravitz and confirming Hugh Jackman taking on a role in his civil rights film Selma, THR reports that Oscar nominated director Lee Daniels has finally found his Martin Luther King Jr. in actor David Oyelowo (The Last King of Scotland, Red Tails). King was one of the key characters waiting to be cast in a story that revolves around the historic marches led by MLK in 1965 in Selma, AL. However, it looks like there's a chance that the thought to be confirmed involvement of Robert De Niro may not be official, as a blurb in the trade says: "The part of Alabama Gov. George Wallace remains up for grabs." Wait, really?

ShoWest: Alex's First Reaction to Seeing Pixar's Toy Story 3!
Early today in Las Vegas at the ShoWest convention, Disney showed the entirety of Pixar's Toy Story 3 to an audience of theater owners as a preview of their summer line-up (Prince of Persia screens on Thursday). I was lucky enough to attend and catch this very first showing of the movie and, as expected, it was another wonderful Pixar film. This is not a review, since the version we saw wasn't 100% finished, but I wanted to at least write up my initial reaction to the sequel to compliment other reaction write-ups on SlashFilm, Latino Review, and Cinema Blend. In brief, it's everything I was expecting, but not too much more beyond that.

Conan O'Brien to Film Documentary of His New Comedy Tour
Though obviously you come here for movie news, there's a good chance you didn't miss out on the big feud and rallies that ensued after NBC threw a wrench in the spokes of The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien and gave the late night time slot and ultimately the trademark talk show back to enemy of the comedy state, Jay Leno (yes, we're Team Coco). Well as part of the closing deals to end this feud, Conan isn't allowed to appear on TV until September, but that's not stopping him from launching a comedy tour across the country and as Deadline reports, O'Brien plans to shoot a feature length documentary to chronicle the live tour.

Sigourney Weaver Will Play a Vampire in Heckerling's Vamps
Although the vampire genre is getting quite saturated at this point, one of the few vampire projects that I am looking forward to is Amy Heckerling's Vamps, and that's only because Heckerling directed Clueless and is reteaming with Alicia Silverstone on this. Heat Vision reports that Sigourney Weaver has also been cast in the project as Ciccerus, a vampire queen who turns the two women (that this is about) into vamps as well. Weaver will join Silverstone and Krysten Ritter, who play two beautiful young vampires that are living the good nightlife in New York until love enters the picture and each one has to make a life-changing choice.

JCVD's Mabrouk El Mechri Directing 'The Cold Light of Day'
Ever since I first got to see JCVD a few years ago, I've been following French-Algerian director Mabrouk El Mechri, as I love his dark, gritty style and I think he's on the way to breaking out big. Although last year it was announced that he would be directing Jessica Alba in Insiders and potentially helming a remake of Park Chan-wook's Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Variety reported earlier today that Summit has hired El Mechri to direct a new thriller called The Cold Light of Day, about a young American whose family is kidnapped while on vacation to Spain, leaving him with only hours to find them and uncover a government conspiracy.

Akiva Goldsman Will Not Be Directing Paranormal Activity 2
Surely you've heard of Akiva Goldsman for his contributions as a writer on legal thrillers like The Client and A Time to Kill to comic book adaptations like Batman Forever and I Am Legend, as well as adaptations of Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code series. However, after directing a couple episodes of "Fringe" and "Kings" it seemed like Goldsman may finally get a feature directorial debut as ShockTillYouDrop reported earlier this morning that he is now the top choice over other people like Brian De Palma and Brad Anderson to sit in the director's chair for Paranormal Activity 2. However, Deadine says it ain't so - Goldsman is producing.

Sofia Coppola, Bill Condon & Van Sant Offered Breaking Dawn
I can't tell you how excited I am that we're inching closer and closer to the end of The Twilight Saga. If you're a regular reader you know why and will either join in my excitement, or whine about our complaining whenever we write about it. However, some recent news has provoked some genuine interest as EW reports that at least three high profile directors including Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette), Gus Van Sant (Elephant, Milk), and Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) have been approached about potentially directing what will be a two part finale for Breaking Dawn, the final installment of The Twilight Saga.

Fandango Launches Barcoded Mobile Movie Tickets Concept
This week I'm in Las Vegas attending the ShoWest convention for theater owners and exhibitors. The show has a focus on all things movie theaters and is occasionally a launching ground for cool new concepts related to moviegoing. Fandango have just launched a new style of online movie ticketing that uses barcodes and digital tickets on your mobile device. Remember when "print at home" tickets were a big innovation? This is the next step, allowing moviegoers to simply buy tickets and show a barcode at theaters to get in, instead of printing anything. Sounds like a cool idea and I'd love to see this at all of my local theaters, too. Read on!

This Week on Netflix Instant: Big Fan, Che, Lymelife & More
Well it looks like this is our first week in Netflix Instant where the line-up of releases is pretty barren. But never fear, because the ginormous library of titles available for streaming has plenty in its arsenal for us to call attention to, so in addition to the brand new titles on Netflix this week, I've decided to throw in a few flicks that I've got in my Instant Queue and plan to watch in the near future. There's plenty to choose from this week including from filmmakers like David Lynch, John Hughes, and Steven Soderbergh not to mention a wide variety of films in documentary, sci-fi, and comedy genres. What's in our queue this week?

Casting Tidbits: Amanda Seyfried, Chloe Moretz & Many More
Forget it, Jake. It's Casting Tidbits. After hearing about "adult" casting for Martin Scorsese's adaptation of the children's book The Invention of Hugo Cabret, we now have kids joining the cast as Deadline New York says Chloe Moretz (500 Days of Summer, Kick-Ass) and Asa Butterfield (The Boy in the Striped Pajamas) have signed on for the story of 12-year old Hugo Cabret (Butterfield, above right), an orphan, who lives in the walls of a Paris train station in 1930. Moretz will be playing the lead female role of an eccentric, bookish girl named Isabelle who enters Cabret's life while he tries to solve the mystery of a broken robot.

Michel Gondry's Future is with Ellen Page & 'The We & The I'
So we know Michel Gondry is currently in post-production on Sony's The Green Hornet, but the French filmmaker loves to work on a handful of projects, including music videos and beyond. Gondry was recently down in Austin at SXSW for the US premiere of his documentary The Thorn in the Heart and spoke with a few other websites there. The Playlist learned about a new experimental project has coming up called The We & The I that sounds pretty damn cool. Then MTV got him to reveal that Ellen Page might be cast in another time travel project he's working on that may or may not be related to Master of Space and Time.
