Captain Oveur Signs Off - Actor Peter Graves Has Died at 83

Peter Graves

Though he may be better known as Jim Phelps, the leader of the Impossible Mission Force on TV's "Mission Impossible," movie fans will know Peter Graves from films like Stalag 17Long Gray Line and, of course, as the worrisome Captain Oveur in Airplane!, who asks a passenger, "You ever seen a grown man naked?" Sadly the actor passed away today at 83 years of age after suffering a heart attack at his home in California. Tragedy strikes again so soon after 80's teen icon Corey Haim passed away earlier this week. Hopefully another obituary isn't around the corner, as it's said that incidents such as these always happen in three's.

Indie Trailer Sunday: Canadian Vampire Rock Comedy 'Suck'

Suck Trailer

A couple of years ago, we wrote about a vampire rock 'n roll musical comedy (that's really what it is) titled simply Suck that would feature appearances by Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, Henry Rollins, and Moby, as well as other rockers. Well, jump ahead to today, and now we've got the official trailer for Suck courtesy of YouTube (via SlashFilm). That beauty with the killer vampire eyes above is Canadian actress Jessica Paré, also seen in Hot Tub Time Machine. This has played at a few film fests and is currently showing at SXSW, so its been making the rounds, and its been getting mostly positive reviews (here's one on ScreenDaily). Check it out!

Check These Out: The Greatest Vintage Kick-Ass Posters Yet

Kick-Ass

And I thought the marketing for this couldn't get any better. In honor of the premiere of Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass last night at the SXSW Film Festival, Lionsgate whipped up three new posters and then debuted them on MTV last week. They're designed like vintage US Army posters and I totally love them. I think these posters kick as much ass as the movie, which I've seen, and is awesome as you're all hoping it is. Following the premiere, reviews have started to pour in for Kick-Ass, so you can read a few from: Film School Rejects, The Playlist, HitFix, Hey U Guys and Twitch. And don't forget to check out the three new posters below, too!

David Fincher Interested in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo?

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo / David Fincher

Just yesterday we brought you an optimistic update on the Heavy Metal anthology project that's being put together by David Fincher. In related Fincher news, Vulture is reporting that the director is "circling" The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo remake that's being developed by Scott Rudin at Columbia. Apparently the studio is "delighted" with all of the work Fincher has done on The Social Network, the Facebook movie that he was shooting most of late last year. So much so that they'd like to see him come back and direct this new project for them. Apparently they're also interested in getting Carey Mulligan attached to star as the lead.

Mel Gibson's Viking Epic Might Be His Final Directing Effort

Mel Gibson

Though it had been a little over eight years when Mel Gibson finally made his return to acting in Edge of Darkness, released earlier this year, it's only been half that time since he last directed a feature and that was the Mayan epic Apocalypto. We already know that Gibson's next film as a director will be yet another epic, this time set amongst the times of the Vikings, being written by William Monahan (who also wrote Kingdom of Heaven, Edge of Darkness, and The Departed) and starring Leonardo DiCaprio. And now Hero Complex is reporting that this yet-to-be-titled Viking dream project may very well be Gibson's last film as a director.

Ron Perlman Playing Conan's Dad Instead of Mickey Rourke

Ron Perlman

When it was announced in January that Jason Momoa would star in Marcus Nispel's remake of Conan as the legendary barbarian himself, it was also revealed that Mickey Rourke was being considered to play his father Corin, the village blacksmith. Then, a few weeks ago, it was announced that Rourke would be joining Tarsem's War of the Gods. With Rourke taking on that role instead, that meant his spot in Conan was open, however, Vulture has now learned that it will be Ron Perlman (also seen as Hellboy) who will play Corin in place of Rourke. Another awesome addition to this cast, which seems to be coming together pretty well.

Must Watch: First Sneak Peek at Robert Rodriguez' Predators

Predators Footage

Earlier tonight at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, TX, Robert Rodriguez and his cohorts debuted a first look at Predators, his new reboot/remake of the action classic. In addition to that event, Fox has unveiled a first look sneak peek at Predators on the official website, with plenty of great footage and a narration from Rodriguez. After waiting months and months, we finally get our first official look at the movie and I've got to say, this looks awesome, totally respectful to the original. There's even a first-look at a "Predator Hound" in the gallery on the site as well, whatever the hell that is. I think I've said enough, just fire this up and enjoy!

Robert Downey Jr. Joins Alfonso Cuarón's Sci-Fi Film Gravity

Robert Downey Jr.

Even more great casting news! Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Robert Downey Jr. is "negotiating a deal" to star in Alfonso Cuarón's new science fiction movie Gravity, which we first wrote about a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, Deadline also confirms that Jolie is no longer a part of the cast, as first reported. However, in terms of star power, Downey Jr. is probably an even stronger casting choice, and will instantly make this a huge hit. Legendary Pictures (of The Dark Knight and Clash of the Titans) is co-financing and developing the project in 3D with Cuarón at Warner Bros, even though it was originally a Universal project.

Disney Shutting Down Robert Zemeckis' ImageMovers Studio

ImageMovers

While this should be an obituary, to me it's cause for celebration. At the beginning of the decade, the once great director Robert Zemeckis gave up on live-action and dedicated himself to only making CGI movies (The Polar Express, Beowulf, and A Christmas Carol). Even though A Christmas Carol was a mild success for Disney ($137 million at the box office), the studio has decided to shut down Zemeckis' ImageMovers Digital studio in Marin County (near San Fran) as reported by the LA Times. The company will officially close its doors in January of 2011 once they finish work on the Zemeckis produced film Mars Needs Moms!.

David Fincher's Heavy Metal Movie Still Rocking, Now in 3-D

Heavy Metal

We've heard random bits of news on this David Fincher led Heavy Metal remake for sometime, but when Paramount dropped the project back in 2008, it seemed like it was dead in the water. But now Deadline New York reports that the violent and erotic segmented project is still alive and kicking confirming that James Cameron and Zack Snyder are on board for directing segments, along with new information that the film is a bit more appealing because it will be entirely 3-D animation. Though other names like Guillermo Del Toro and Gore Verbinski have been tossed around for segments, their involvement still isn't confirmed.

Cameron: Titanic 3-D in 2012, Extended Avatar This Summer

James Cameron

If you kept your eyes on the box office the week before Alice in Wonderland hit theaters in IMAX 3-D, you saw Avatar take back the #1 box office spot the entire week leading up to Alice's release, not to mention that despite Disney's box office reign that weekend, nearby digital 3-D screens showing Avatar saw a decent increase in numbers, showing that there is still demand. So to counteract the money Fox might be losing,  THR's Heat Vision reports that an extended cut of Avatar might head back to IMAX in late summer. In related news, Cameron says they're aiming for a 3-D theatrical re-release of Titanic sometime in 2012.
