Rupert Wyatt Might Direct Fox's Planet of the Apes Prequel?

Planet of the Apes

And I thought this project was dead! Deadline is reporting that British director Rupert Wyatt is Fox's top choice to direct the Planet of the Apes prequel. Wait - there's a Planet of the Apes prequel? We've been reporting various rumors and rumblings about a new Apes movie for years, but it never got off the ground. Now this hits almost out of nowhere. Deadline's report is also suspiciously brief, stating: "No start date, but Wyatt's come aboard to develop to direct." They also say the script they're using was written by Rick Jaffa (The Relic) and Amanda Silver (The Hand That Rocks the Cradle). So who is this Rupert Wyatt guy anyway?

Gary Fleder Attached to Direct Allan Loeb's Script 'Protection'

Gary Fleder

In the past three years, writer Allan Loeb has become quite the hot commodity, moving from writing the indie Things We Lost in the Fire to the higher profile 21, and then scoring huge by giving new life to Wall Street 2. Now it seems Loeb is also responsible for reinvigorating the Escape from New York remake as well as having plenty other projects in active development. Now Variety reports Gary Fleder (The Express) will direct Protection, a spec script from Loeb centering on a college professor investigating the disappearance of his wife and daughter and must confront authorities from the Witness Protection Program to find them.

Check This Out: Another Nifty Poster for Pixar's Toy Story 3

Toy Story 3 Poster

Although we originally said that the poster we featured a week ago was the "final" poster for Pixar's Toy Story 3, that doesn't look to be the case (and I'm sure there are still more coming). Empire has debuted another new (UK) poster for Toy Story 3 with one of the most clever taglines we've seen in a while. And if you don't get it, well maybe you should go watch some of the trailers again. Anyway, Disney packs in just about every character they can on this, at least all the main guys, which is impressive considering the last one did that as well and it left no room for anything else on the poster. Check out the new poster below.

Jason Segel & Ed Helms Join Duplass Brothers Stoner Comedy

Jason Segel & Ed Helms

Earlier this year at Sundance, the Duplass Brothers (Mark and Jay) made quite a splash with their most recent film Cyrus, starring John C. Reilly and Jonah Hill. Now the writing/directing duo are teaming up with another pair of comedic stars for what looks to be another stellar comedy as THR reports Jason Segel (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and Ed Helms (The Hangover) have joined the stoner comedy Jeff Who Lives at Home, which chronicles a day in the life of two brothers, one a loser (Segel) who lives at home and the other (Helms) more together, but overbearing. Judy Greer is also in talks to play Helm's wife.

Steve Martin is Having a 'Big Year' Instead of Dustin Hoffman

Steve Martin

For a little while now, Dustin Hoffman has been attachedĀ to star opposite Jack Black and Owen Wilson in the comedy The Big Year, an adaptation of Mark Obmascik's book The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature and Fowl Obsession. But now THR reports that Steve Martin, fresh off last weekend's stint as co-host of the Academy Awards, is in negotiations to take over the lead role instead of Hoffman in the story of three men who try to outdo each other in a bird-watching competition to spot the rarest birds in North America. The rivalry is an allegory for the challenges each faces in his own life. Oh, fancy movies and their allegories!

Paramount Launching Micro-Budget Division Insurge Pictures

Insurge Pictures

Apparently the success of Paranormal Activity had a bigger impact on Paramount than we initially thought. The studio is launching a new division called Insurge Pictures that will be specifically focused on "micro-budget" movies (news on indieWIRE). The division has been given $1 million in funds to spread across 10 movies with $100,000 budgets each. This fresh new idea is said to be the creation of Amy Powell, the SVP of Interactive Marketing at Paramount. They're also trying to build a community via the official website, which hasn't yet launched. "We want to try something different and deconstruct the Hollywood system." Read on!

Chris Nolan Talks About the Superman Reboot and Batman 3

Christopher Nolan

Earlier today, the LA Times' Hero Complex published a big new update from Christopher Nolan covering all things Superman and Batman. I know our readers have been anxiously waiting to hear our thoughts on all that he had to say, so let's get right down to it. It's a meaty article with lots of juicy new quotes, but Nolan does confirm that he is developing the big new Superman reboot and is also working on the final Batman movie. In fact, the way he ended up working on Superman is that he came to a point where he couldn't agree with David S. Goyer about the story on the third Batman and took this temporary detour as a "distraction."

Must Watch: Epic Final Full-Length Trailer for Robin Hood!

Robin Hood Trailer

"Rise and rise again until lambs become lions." Universal just debuted a brand new, full-length theatrical trailer for Ridley Scott's Robin Hood and it looks incredible. The first trailer for this in December with a couple of other follow-up trailers and TV spots. But this is the trailer you've all been waiting to see from the start. We finally find out what the story is all about and we also get to see more Robin Hood-specific action, which looks quite awesome (like when they're sneaking through the woods) and not as much like Gladiator any more. I'm still excited for this - I love seeing Ridley and Russell Crowe work together. Watch & enjoy!
