Back-to-Back Independence Day Sequels, Will Smith Locked?
Remember in November when we reported that there wasn't just one, but supposedly two, Independence Day sequels in the works? Well, apparently that's true. IESB has a big update from one of their sources who claims that 20th Century Fox has those two Independence Day sequels aiming shoot back-to-back with Will Smith. One of the big snags holding this sequel back over the last fourteen years has been that Will Smith wants more and more money. Word is he will now get $20 million up front as well as part of the gross to star in this, mainly because Fox is now floating in all kinds of cash thanks to Avatar's mega (financial) success.

Discussion: More Red Band Trailer Controversy Arises Again
We are a website that often runs red band trailers so I thought I would briefly comment on a new article in the NY Times (via SlashFilm) about an increased concern over the quantity and ease of access of red band trailers online. The paper says a Federal Trade Commission report from last December identifies red band trailers as a "new concern" and that most age-verification "gates" for the trailers are too lax; they should have better verification to confirm that the viewer is at least the age of 17. Every time Hollywood starts to get a little edgier in their marketing, the "parents" of this country get angry with these concerns all over again.

Brand New Red Band Trailer for Romero's Survival of the Dead
It was mere coincidence that that same evening we wrote about a new concern over red band trailers, we just so happen to have one of the goriest red band trailers to feature tonight. This second, new trailer for George A. Romero's Survival of the Dead is a vast improvement over the first trailer (also red band) that arrived earlier this month. This one is edited together much better and includes some of the best zombie kills from the film (so don't watch it if you want to stay fresh... or can't handle wild, crazy zombies!). Other than that, I'll let you guys decided whether this looks good enough to see in theaters or on DVD or not at all. Enjoy!

Must Watch: Banksy Doc 'Exit Through the Gift Shop' Trailer
Here it is - the trailer you've all (I hope?) been waiting to see! Apple has premiered the official trailer for the street artist documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop that's directed by and stars the legendary Banksy. We just learned over the weekend that the film is being released very limited in a few weeks, without much of a wait, so this trailer is here to introduce you to the doc and convince you to go see it. The trailer is pretty self explanatory and doesn't contain any dialogue, just a brief look at the kind of footage to expect when you see this (although there's much more). Anyone who is a fan of Banksy will definitely get a kick out of it, too.

Timur Bekmambetov Helming a 'Victor Frankenstein' Movie?
It's almost hard to believe that since Wanted opened back in the summer of 2008, Russian director Timur Bekmambetov hasn't actually started production on any follow-up projects, even though its been nearly two years. He's been rumored to be attached to all kinds of things, from Wanted 2 to to Moby Dick to The Last Witch Hunter, and now we've got another project to throw on that growing list. SlashFilm is reporting that Bekmambetov is supposedly (read: unofficially) attached to an adaptation of Peter Ackroyd's novel The Casebook of Victor Frankenstein, which is a retelling of the Gothic horror classic told in first person.

Writer David Hayter Making His Directorial Debut on 'Wolves'
I'm not too excited about werewolves becoming a new trend in Hollywood, but there's not much I can do, especially with Taylor Lautner running wild. Deadline reports that Watchmen and X2 screenwriter David Hayter (who also voices Snake in Metal Gear Solid) will be getting his big break as a feature director on a project called Wolves. "While studios want to hire him as a writer, nobody wants to take shots on first time directors," but Wolves now has the funding it needs to shoot this summer. The film is an $18 million thriller that Hayter describes as "Twilight with a bit more bite to it, and without abstinence." I'm still not excited.

Matthew Vaughn Will Be Adapting Valiant's Bloodshot Next?
Although it's still yet to be seen if Matthew Vaughn's self-funded comic book adaptation of Kick-Ass is as big of a success as we're hoping it will be, but that isn't stopping Vaughn from apparently already setting up his next new comic book project. Latino Review is reporting that instead of reteaming with Kick-Ass writer Mark Millar again (who's apparently becoming quite a big pain in the ass in Hollywood) or taking on X-Men 4, Vaughn will be adapting the now defunct comic book Bloodshoot that used to be published by Valiant Comics in the 90s. Vaughn will co-write with Jane Goldman and fully finance this on his own once again.

It's Official - Legendary & Warner Bros Bringing Back Godzilla!
Frankly, I'm surprised that this hasn't come to fruition sooner after the moderate success of Peter Jackson's 2005 reincarnation of King Kong, but with all of the current studio trends, it was only just a matter of time. Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros officially announced today that they are starting to develop and all new movie based on the iconic movie monster Godzilla, which first terrorized Tokyo for the first time over 50 years ago in 1954, courtesy of Toho Studios. Though no writer is mentioned yet, WB and Legendary hope to announce a director to helm the new Godzilla imminently with a look to release the film sometime in 2012.

The Crafty Frouds Say a Dark Crystal Sequel Still on the Way
In case you were unaware, Brian & Wendy Froud are the duo responsible for much of the intricate and spectacular work in the art department on the props, sets and creature design on cult classics like The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. A sequel to the former, titled The Power of the Dark Crystal has been rumored / gestating for quite some time, but the last we heard back in August, was pretty much the same news we've been hearing for awhile with no real progression. Leicester Square TV (via SlashFilm) just recently caught up with the Frouds, where they offer at least a tiny bit of hope for the sequel, which they say is still on track.

Interview with Alice in Wonderland Composer Danny Elfman
Continuing my series of interviews with composers, today I present our newest interview with the legendary and wonderfully talented Danny Elfman. I spoke with Danny earlier in March over the phone with a focus on Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland which as he mentions in the interview is the 13th film he's done with Burton. However, we go beyond just Alice to talk at length about how he scores his films, from beginning to end, and how it's sometimes a tough battle and sometimes a wonderful experience for him, as well as what it's like working with Tim Burton. This is another one of those fascinating interviews you just have to read!

There's a Live-Action Shogun Warriors Movie in the Works?
This is a bit of an odd news story, but interesting nonetheless. The Shogun Warriors were a line of toys, licensed by Mattel in the late 1970s, that consisted of a series of imported Japanese robots based on popular giant robot anime shows. Ain't It Cool News is reporting that a live-action version is in now the works, but it's hard to figure out what exactly is going on, since their article is more of a story about the interview that first got them this scoop. Apparently they were talking with Jules Urbach, the founder of LightStage (the company that scanned Brad Pitt for Benjamin Button) when they learned about a project about Gaiking.
