Cannes Prospectives: Wall Street 2, Woody Allen, Tree of Life
With the Cannes Film Festival only 45 days away from kicking off (I will be attending again this year), buzz about the line-up has started to build. Last week it was officially announced that Ridley Scott's Robin Hood would open the festival, the same honor that Pixar's Up had last at last year's fest. Anne Thompson at indieWIRE also names a few titles that she's heard will be heading to Cannes: Oliver Stone's Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, Woody Allen's You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, and of course, Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life, which we've talked plenty about before, although none of them are official yet.

Indie Trailer Sunday: Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Micmacs US Trailer
Ah yes, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, he's definitely got his fans. Sony Pictures Classics debuted earlier this week the official US trailer (via Yahoo) for Jeunet's new film Micmacs, or Micmacs à tire-larigot in French. It's a whimsical fairy-tale-like film about a quirky?? guy who tries to destroy two big weapons manufacturers with a team of mistfit friends. It looks so incredibly fun and I'm actually very excited to see it, probably because I'm in the mood for a fun French flick like this. It's been playing at some festivals (like SXSW recently) and getting fairly good reviews (see FSR). It's finally hitting theaters in May, so check out the new trailer below!

Tom Hanks Reveals Most of 'Larry Crowne' Cast in a TwitPic
If you didn't already hear, the casting story of the weekend came about when Tom Hanks posted a TwitPic of his casting board for his upcoming film Larry Crowne on Twitter. It's a new film that Hanks wrote and is directing (and starring in) and we didn't know who else was going to be in it until recently. The funny part is that the photos were kind of hard to decipher and multiple websites banded together to try and solve who each of the headshots were. Luckily, they seemed to have figure out almost all of them, or at least the most important ones, since it's full of a lot of lesser known up-and-coming actors. But we've got a good list below.

Watch This: A Badass Japanese Trailer for The Last Airbender
Although we just posted a brand new trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender a few days ago, fans have been emailing me left and right about some other trailer for The Last Airbender that comes from Japan. It's been officially dubbed 'badass' by anyone who has seen it, so I'm going to let that word stick this time. I was hesitant of how badass it would be, but after watching it, they're right, this is a badass trailer and there's some awesome new footage we haven't seen before. As expected, the more I see from this, the better it looks, and I hope it continues to make fans and non-fans alike more excited for it. Watch the trailer below!

Watch This: First Iron Man 2 TV Spot from Kids' Choice Awards
Nail it! Paramount has debuted the first TV spot for Jon Favreau's Iron Man 2 tonight during the Kids' Choice Awards on Nickelodeon (video via TheMovieBox). Looks like Marvel really is trying to be as family friend or family appealing as possible with this franchise. That said, this movie looks better and better the more we see and the closer we get to release. I'm sure new digital effects shots are coming in every day; we get just a glimpse of each of them in every new bit of footage. The trailers both looked great but now we're down to the last month or so until this hits. I love that Nick Fury's role has been expanded, too. Excited?

Banksy's Exit Through the Gift Shop is Hitting Theaters Soon
If you followed the Sundance Film Festival this year, one film that came out of that fest with a lot of buzz was the documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop directed by and about the elusive street artist Banksy. Instead of waiting months, or a year, for a distributor to pick up the film and release it, Cinetic Media (who reps the film) has decided to release it through the Producers Distribution Agency, an independent company that is basically made up of former distribution execs. The good news is that they are rushing it to theaters quickly. Exit Through the Gift Shop will open very limited on April 16th in three cities before expanding.

Louis Leterrier Interested in the Y: The Last Man Adaptation?
There's been talk of an adaptation of Brian K. Vaughn's praised graphic novel series Y: The Last Man for a long time now. The most recent attempt had Shia LaBeouf attached to star in an adaptation directed by D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye, Disturbia), but that never came to fruition. Courtesy of an exclusive scoop from Latino Review, apparently Louis Leterrier, director of the upcoming remake of Clash of the Titans as well as The Incredible Hulk, is now interested in taking on the project. Of course, with all the false starts the project has had, this is pretty much tossing up another prayer that the comic finds someone to direct this adaptation.

Angelina Jolie May Play the Evil Queen in Disney's Maleficent
Just earlier this week, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland writer Linda Woolverton was brought on to write Disney's Maleficent, a live-action take on the evil queen from the 1959 animated classic Sleeping Beauty. We already know that Burton is circling the film as one of many potential projects for him to direct next, and now the project might gain even more steam as LA Times says Angelina Jolie has become quite interested in the project lately and is eager to sign on as the evil queen. However, with no deal, script or Tim Burton's official involvement yet (which could be part of her interest), this could just as easily not come to fruition.

Confirmed: Bryan Singer Only Producing X-Men: First Class
Earlier this week we heard rumblings from HitFix that Bryan Singer would no longer be directing X-Men: First Class as he was already deep in pre-production on Warner Bros' Jack the Giant Killer and couldn't be taken away from the project for Fox's quick plans to get a new superhero franchise off the ground. Deadline has confirmed this is the case, but as we speculated after that in-depth interview with Singer and producer Lauren Shuler Donner, Singer will stay on as producer. As excited as I was for Singer to return to X-Men (I think X2 is one of the best comic book films to date) there is at least one reason why this isn't a bad thing.

Mortensen and Cronenberg Returning for Eastern Promises 2
Director David Cronenberg seems to be having some trouble recently getting his projects into production. For a while he was attached to The Matarese Circle with Denzel Washington, but that now seems to be stuck once again. However, Cronenberg is finally shooting his Sigmund Freud film The Talking Cure this summer, and now Deadline reports that he will then move right into Eastern Promises 2 this winter. Apparently British producer Paul Webster has been lining up numerous projects, one of which is this sequel, that Focus Features "hopes to [shoot] this winter" and will star Viggo Mortensen as the Russian hitman Nikolai again.

Watch This: Second Trailer for Disney's Sorcerer's Apprentice
Disney has debuted a second new trailer for The Sorcerer's Apprentice produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and starring Nic Cage, Jay Baruchel (who I've seen too much of recently), Monica Bellucci, Alfred Molina, Teresa Palmer and Toby Kebbell. The first trailer arrived in December and I think everyone was impressed by how good it actually looked. This second one doesn't exactly improve over that one, as it uses the same song and some of the same scenes, but it does still look really good. We also get to see Molina as the villain and some plasma bolts, which I think will be used quite a bit in the movie. I'm still very excited to see this!

Kip Williams is Directing Paranormal Activity 2 for Paramount
Wait, who? It turns out that the director of the Paranormal Activity sequel will not be any of the people originally mentioned by the LA Times a few weeks ago. As announced on the official website today by Oren Peli, director of the original Paranormal, is that Kip Williams, better known as Tod Williams, will direct the sequel. "We are thrilled to have Kip working with us," Peli states. "He is the guy we want at the helm, because he knows exactly what we want to deliver to the fans… and I can't wait to be a part of what he's putting together." Let's hope he does a good job with this still unnecessary sequel, as I don't want it to suck.
