Cruise & Witherspoon Interested in a Rodeo Romance Flick?
Since he's been busy fighting aliens, government conspirators and even Hitler, Tom Cruise hasn't really had time for a genuine romance since 1997's Jerry Maguire. I suppose you could call Eyes Wide Shut or Vanilla Sky romances, but their surreal qualities kind of take away from the traditional romantic elements. But it looks like he might be returning to some romantic cinema as LA Times' 24 Frames reports Cruise and Reese Witherspoon are interested in the lead roles for a romance called Paper Wings. Set in the world of rodeo, Cruise would play a rodeo champ who falls for Witherspoon, an up-and-coming country singer.

Viral Encom Press Conference in San Francisco Next Weekend
Flynn Lives! I knew these Encom badges being sent out were more than just swag! A press release has been posted on the official (viral) website this morning for Encom International and a new video featuring Bruce Boxleitner as Encom's "Executive Consultant" Alan Bradley has been posted on IGN. Looks like the Tron Legacy viral is about to really explode soon. The press release has information about an upcoming press conference being held in San Francisco on April 2nd starting at 8PM. And get this, the "meet-up" is being held at a huge industrial plaza in downtown San Francisco. Is this Joker viral all over again, I hope?

Paul W.S. Anderson is Directing the Buck Rogers Movie in 3D
Way back in late 2008, a few weeks before Frank Miller's The Spirit flopped big time, it was announced that Miller would go on to direct a live-action "revamp" of the classic sci-fi hero Buck Rogers. After later seeing The Spirit, I hoped this would never actually happen, because after seeing that awful movie, I wanted Miller to never direct anything again. Well, while this should be good news, it's not entirely that good, as Deadline is now reporting that instead of Frank Miller, we'll have Paul W.S. Anderson directing the Buck Rogers movie in 3D (of course). Anderson has already "locked a deal" to direct the new version of the classic sci-fi.

Mandate Fast-Tracks Diablo Cody's New Script 'Young Adult'
I know not everyone is a big fan of screenwriter Diablo Cody, but I think she's written some refreshingly unique scripts and I'm always at least interested in her new projects. Although she's already got Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament and Sweet Valley High in the works, EW.com is reporting that Cody's other new script called Young Adult has been put on the fast-track at Mandate Pictures. The big selling point is that this is the same production company behind Juno, but Jason Reitman's not involved, so that doesn't mean much. Cody is also producing the film along with Mandate, Mason Novick, and Malkovich's Mr. Mudd Productions.

Michael Bay Also Criticizes Post-Production 3-D Conversion
We know James Cameron's Avatar has ushered in the next big trend in Hollywood whether you enjoy it or despise it: movies in 3-D. However, there's much dissension in the industry beyond their like or dislike of the trend and moreso regarding the quality of 3-D presentation for these films, as many studios have taken a route different than Avatar, and opted to convert films to 3-D in post-production rather than shoot them in genuine 3-D. As the pioneer of modern 3-D, Cameron has been more than vocal against shoddy imitation 3-D, but this time it's Michael Bay slinging the mud at 3-D conversion, which he says "kind of sucks."

Final Trailer for Universal's Despicable Me is Finally Unveiled
Over the last year or so, we've been shown a total of three (first, second, third) trailers for Universal's new animated movie Despicable Me that have slowly introduced us to various characters and the plot. Well, actually, we've seen none of the plot until now. Apple has the final theatrical trailer for Despicable Me that actually contains real footage from the movie and paints a pretty picture of what the story is actually about. While I'm used to hating on this movie, I feel a little bit of sympathy because those kids that screw with his plans look so damn cute! Other than that, this still looks as terribly unfunny as it did before. Take a look!

Baumbach to Direct Emperor's Children w/ Knightley & Bana
Remember almost three years ago when we learned that Noah Baumbach (of The Squid and the Whale, Greenberg) had written an adaptation of Claire Messud's 2006 novel titled The Emperor's Children to be directed by Ron Howard. No? Well, you do now. But lots changes in three years and The Wrap's update is evidence of that as they've discovered Baumbach is now stepping up to direct this with Keira Knightley, Eric Bana and Richard Gere. Howard will still stay on with Brian Grazer as a producer, but he's officially decided to direct the infidelity comedy Your Cheating Heart with Vince Vaughn and Kevin James instead.

Liam Neeson & Cedric the Entertainer Join Lee Daniels' Selma
Just last week Lee Daniels found his Martin Luther King Jr. in David Oyelowo, now he's found two more actors for key roles in his civil rights drama Selma. MTV spoke with Daniels who revealed Liam Neeson and Cedric the Entertainer (seriously, can't he have a real name now?) have joined the cast. Neeson will play President Lyndon B. Johnson and Cedric will play American civil rights movement leader and MLK's right hand man Ralph Abernathy. However, as we previously speculated, it looks like Robert De Niro may not be film as Daniels states: "Wallace is not [cast], but [an offer is] out. We're waiting for a deal to close."

Casting Tidbits: Green Lantern, Attack the Block & The Rite
These Casting Tidbits will self-destruct. First up, Heat Vision reports Angela Bassett (Meet the Browns, Akeelah and the Bee) has joined the cast of DC Comics' Green Lantern in a role that has the potential to set up a larger story arc in the DC Universe. Bassett will play Dr. Amanda Waller, a government agent who in comics lore eventually oversees the Suicide Squad, a government-run group of captured super-villains performing tasks in exchange for eventual freedom. No word on how involved her role is, but I hope DC is planning to bring a series of interconnected stories to the big screen much like Marvel's current endeavors.

Brad Bird Might Direct Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible 4!
Although we'd been hoping he would eventually get a greenlight to direct his live-action earthquake movie 1906, apparently The Incredibles and Ratatouille director might take on another live-action mission first. Heat Vision is reporting that former Pixar director Brad Bird is now one of a few "contenders" to direct Mission: Impossible 4 being produced by J.J. Abrams and set to star Tom Cruise for his fourth time. The trade site obviously isn't confirming that he's the one who has the job, mentioning that they've been meeting with others like Ruben Fleischer and Edgar Wright, but it's possible Bird may end up directing this sequel.

Watch This: Another Awesome Trailer for The Last Airbender
I don't deserve their praise. You will. Another new trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender has been discovered online (via YouTube) that you can watch below (it's only low res for now). It's basically a newer version of the first trailer that debuted back in February. However, there are quite a few new scenes in this which will definitely excite fans of the Avatar: The Last Airbender cartoon series. I think this is the first time we've ever heard Aang's voice (played by newcomer Noah Ringer) and it's also the first time we see him using that flying contraption from the show. I'm still pretty damn excited for this movie. Watch & enjoy!

Messy New International Theatrical Iron Man 2 Poster Arrives
Paramount has debuted a brand new international "theatrical" poster for Iron Man 2 today on Yahoo. I'm not actually that impressed with the posters for this movie so far. The first two teaser posters were awesome, but the follow-up two character posters were pretty bland, and now this one arrives. It's the same design as the final posters from the first Iron Man movie, with a bunch of people thrown all over it, but I just think it's too messy. There's that distracting explosion and a semi-circle curve of actors Photoshopped together, plus other odd-sized elements pieced together. It's exciting, sure, but I don't think it's a great poster. Thoughts?
