Casting Tidbits: Billy Crudup, Daniel Dae Kim & Kurt Russell
We're going to live on. We're going to survive. Today we celebrate our Casting Tidbits! First up, after hearing that Zooey Deschanel would star in Enchantress of Numbers, Production Weekly has followed up with more casting as Billy Crudup (Watchmen, Almost Famous) and Toby Jones (Infamous, The Mist) have also joined the cast. The film is a period drama from director Bruce Beresford (Driving Miss Daisy) that will focus on the life of Ada Lovelace, a wholly interesting and brilliant English woman who's often regarded as the world's first computer programmer. No word on what roles Crudup and Jones will be playing though.

Cameron: Avatar 2 Going into Ocean, Re-Release On the Way
I knew it! What "place" does James Cameron love spending more time in other than outer space? Under the water, of course, he loves diving and most of his movies have had an underwater element or inspiration to them. In a brand new interview with Hero Complex, Cameron openly confirmed that the sequel, Avatar 2, will focus "on the ocean on Pandora, which will be equally rich and diverse and crazy and imaginative." It's an interesting interview so I suggest reading the entire thing, since Cameron talks about the re-release and all the radical environmental "reactions" to Avatar (like these crazy protesters in Palestine). Read on!

Cinematographer Wally Pfister Skeptical About Batman 3 in 3D
We already know that since Batman 3 hasn't been officially announced yet (more on that below) this is all purely skeptical, simply because it's way too early to state anything as fact. That said, some new quotes from cinematographer Wally Pfister (who has worked on almost all of Chris Nolan's movies) regarding 3D and their plans moving forward on Batman 3 are interesting enough to point out today anyway. Todd Gilchrist of Cinematical talked with Pfister in Dallas where he received the Star Award from the Dallas Film Festival. "What Chris and I have talked about is doing something cool and something interesting," Pfister stated.

Sam Mendes Might Direct RDJ in Oz The Great And Powerful
What the heck is this? Now that James Bond 23, which Sam Mendes was going to direct, has been delayed indefinitely, Mendes is out looking for other projects to take on instead. And this is one we've never heard of before. Production Weekly reports via Twitter that Mendes is now the "front runner" to direct a movie called Oz The Great And Powerful. Not only that, but apparently Robert Downey Jr. may even play the Wizard! You heard that right - Tony Stark is going to become the all powerful, wonderful Wizard of Oz! Then again, who knows how soon this will actually start shooting, as it seems like this is still very early in development.

Letterman is Directing & Stoller is Rewriting Stretch Armstrong
I don't want to report on this damn movie any more, but there are some big names. Universal announced today that Rob Letterman, of DreamWorks' Shark Tale, Monsters vs Aliens, and Fox's Gulliver's Travels (his first live-action), will direct the movie. Additionally, they've brought on Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek director Nick Stoller to rewrite the script originally written by Steve Oedekerk. Let's not forget that Taylor Lautner (seen above) is still attached to star. Looks like Universal really wants this to be a hit and is making sure they've got their "best" talent working on it (at least on the script side of things).

Exclusive: Todd Phillips' Secret Comedy Project X is Revealed
Last week we reported on a super secret low budget comedy coming from Todd Phillips (director of The Hangover) and Joel Silver (big time producer of films like Sherlock Holmes) which was being referred to only as Project X, with its real title and high concept story being kept under wraps. The only information known was this would be commercial director Nima Nourizadeh's feature directorial debut and producers were interested in casting nothing but completely unknown actors in the flick. Now we have details from a very reliable industry source which reveal just what Project X will really be, and it sounds quite interesting.

It's April 20th today and you know what that means - it's a Tuesday! I'm kidding, it's 4/20 for those of you who are marijuana enthusiasts and in a very smart move, Parallel Media has released the first teaser trailer for the Sundance stoner comedy HIGH School. This is the crazy movie about a high school valedictorian who must get his entire school stoned during a drug test or he won't graduate. So he turns to the local pot dealer madman, played insanely by Adrien Brody (seen above). Just look how different he is between that character and the one in Splice! I'm sure we'll see more for this, but here's the first teaser for HIGH School.

Warner Bros Developing a Brand New Treasure Island Movie
Earlier this year Variety reported that the UK based Ecosse Films was developing an adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic adventure novel Treasure Island. This iteration intends to update the story of pirates and buried treasure for contemporary audiences by playing up the relationship between Long John Silver and Jim Hawkins and do for the novel what Guy Ritchie did for Sherlock Holmes. But it looks like producer Lionel Wigram, who produced Sherlock Holmes, is working with Warner Bros to beat them to the punch with his adaptation of Treasure Island (via Pajiba), which already has the jump on Ecosse's version.

John Woo & Su Chao-Pin's 'Reign of Assassins' Promo Trailer
This looks pretty badass! Twitch has discovered the first (unofficial) promo trailer for an upcoming Chinese martial arts movie called Reign of Assassins that is co-directed by John Woo and Su Chao-Pin starring Michelle Yeoh and Jung Woo-sung (from The Good, The Bad, The Weird as "The Good"). This kind of looks like Salt meets Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, which may sound good to some, but not-so-good to others who are tired of the same ole martial arts movies. However, after watching this, I'm pretty damn excited to see it, maybe just cause I'm a sucker for martial arts films like Crouching Tiger. Anyway, check it out below.

Greg Mottola Writing 'Important Artifacts' for Portman & Pitt
A year ago we heard about a new Paramount project called Important Artifacts, an adaptation of Leanne Shapton's lengthily titled book: Important Artifacts and Personal Property From the Collection of Lenore Doolan and Harold Morris, Including Books, Street Fashion and Jewelry. Whew! Natalie Portman and Brad Pitt have been attached to star in and produce this estate-auction-catalog-turned-romantic-comedy through their production banners Handsomecharlie Films and Plan B. Now Risky Biz says Paramount has hired Adventureland writer/director Greg Mottola to write the script for this surprisingly interesting film.

Mark Hamill to Direct a Movie? We'll Find Out More at Cannes
Looks like everyone wants to direct their own comic book movie nowadays. The Wrap reports that Mark Hamill, better known as Luke frickin' Skywalker, excitedly revealed at an event in LA last weekend that he may finally direct a movie that's been a passion project of his for years. Unfortunately, his partners told him that he couldn't fully announce it yet because "they wanted to wait until the Cannes Film Festival." But with the little hints he did give, The Wrap seems to think it may be a feature version of his own comic book series The Black Pearl, because he did mention that it is based on a comic he wrote that's set in the real world.
