Doug Liman to Direct the Coen Bros Scripted 'Gambit' Remake?

Doug Liman

In January we heard that the Coen Brothers-scripted remake of the 1966 British caper comedy Gambit may finally be going into production sometime soon. But at the time, no director was mentioned, and it was assumed the Coens would take on the project themselves sometime down the road. But it looks like they'll be passing on their script to another director as Deadline reports that Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity) is circling the project as his next potential directing gig following Fair Game. Since the story itself deals with a comedic tone set amidst some action, Liman (who also directed Mr. & Mrs. Smith) would be a perfect fit.

Watch This: Crazy Japanese Teaser Trailer for The Expendables

The Expendables Trailer

Short 'n sweet, but totally badass! Thanks to AICN, you can check out a new Japanese teaser trailer for Sly Stallone's The Expendables via the official Japanese website. This trailer totally kicks ass because it's just 30 seconds of madness and mayhem. And somehow in that 30 seconds, they shows us every last character in this (including the Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger cameos). We haven't seen any other footage besides the very first official US trailer back in March, so although this doesn't have a lot of new footage, it's still awesome to see. Thanks to our poll on Facebook, I know a lot of people are excited for this, so fire it up!

Wes Craven Talks Scream 4 + Old/New Teaser Poster Revealed

Ghostface

It's been a long time coming, but Scream 4 is now on the way, not only with original cast Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette, but master of horror Wes Craven is returning to the director's chair for the Ghostface killer sequel. Entertainment Weekly has just released the first official teaser poster for this, though it isn't much different from a poster that showed up at American Film Market late last year, and sat down with Craven who couldn't reveal too much about his return to the franchise, but he did delve a little deeper into where we'll find our damsel in distress, Sidney Prescott, in the fourth go-round in this series.

Fox Pumps Schwarzenegger Well With a Commando Remake

Commando

They already have a throwback to an action-packed Arnold Schwarzenegger with this summer's Predators, a new chapter of sorts following the original spawning of the bloodthirsty Predator from '87, so why not dig a little deeper for a remake of another Schwarzenegger vehicle? Deadline reports Fox is developing a remake of Commando, the 1985 shoot-first-ask-questions-later action movie which followed a retired elite special forces op whose daughter is kidnapped and threatened unless he gets on a plane and kills the rival of a nasty dictator. David Ayer, who wrote Training Day and directed Street Kings, is both writing and directing this.

J.J. Abrams Will Next Pay Tribute & Collaborate with Spielberg

J.J. Abrams & Steven Spielberg

Since rocking most of our worlds with last years Star Trek franchise reboot, we've all been waiting to hear what J.J. Abrams will take on as his next project. We know he won't be taking on Mission Impossible 4, but interestingly it looks like his next project may end up being a simultaneous tribute to and collaboration with another big name director who just can't seem to choose his next project either: Steven Spielberg. Vulture reports that Abrams is just now finishing a screenplay described as "a tip of the hat to [Spielberg's] movies of the 70's and early 80's," and Abrams plans to direct the movie himself for Paramount Pictures.

Awesome New Poster for Chris Nolan's Inception Uncovered!

Inception

Over at Nolan Fans they discovered a brand new poster for Christopher Nolan's Inception, which you can see below. The poster was discovered in the Mind Crime viral game online where someone "spotted a new poster for Inception while traveling through one of the parks in the game." It's not available in high res yet, but I absolute love the look of this poster. I can only imagine what it would be like seeing this for the first time at a movie theater and thinking "what the f*ck is going on?!" I do feel like all the main actors look a little too posed in the bottom area, but other than that, this is yet another fantastic poster for Inception!

Superman Returning Christmas 2012, DC Universe is Growing

Superman

There's already so much to be excited about for Superman's return to the big screen with Chris Nolan, his brother Jonah Nolan, and David Goyer working together on The Man of Steel. Today we heard about a massive Warner Bros deal to bring 20 movies to IMAX theaters, and while Superman's new beginning was listed, no release date was mentioned. But IESB went ahead and found out that WB and Legendary Pictures are planning to release The Man of Steel at Christmas 2012, and apparently DC Entertainment has started to figure out the logistics and chronology of their cinematic universe to lead into a Justice League movie.

Must Watch: Second Full Trailer for Vincenzo Natali's Splice!

Splice Trailer

No more than four weeks after the first official trailer for Vincenzo Natali's Splice arrived online, Warner Bros has debuted another brand new trailer today on MySpace. This new version has a genetic engineering gone wrong spin to it, more so than the other one, but still has all the awesome horror elements of the first one. I like this trailer a lot more because it progresses the same way as the storyline in the movie does and it gives you a good idea of where this goes and how creepy it gets in the later half (with each of the days). If you aren't sold on seeing Splice after watching this trailer, then this movie definitely isn't for you. Enjoy!

The Future is Bleak as Paramount Preps a Magic 8 Ball Movie

Magic 8 Ball

There really isn't any more appropriate time to say "jump the shark" or the more recent incarnation "nuke the fridge", as Paramount is really taking things too far with this Hollywood obsession of adapting toys into feature length films. Vulture reports that the studio responsible for toy-based movies Transformers and G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra is scraping the bottom of the barrel in their preparation of a live-action adventure film based around Mattel's divination driven toy The Magic 8 Ball, a hollow, plastic sphere that upon being shaken offers affirmative, negative or non-committal answers to questions courtesy of a 20-sided die inside.

Sharlto Copley Talks About When We'll See a District 9 Prequel

District 9

I know I'm not the only one who's anxious to hear more about the prospect of a District 9 sequel or prequel or whatever, not only because I really loved the movie and want to see more, but also because I'm a huge fan of director Neill Blomkamp and want to see more from him. Last week, a rumor hit on MarketSaw claiming that a sequel, to be called District 10, would shoot this year, but that was obviously just not true at all (hence why we never mentioned it). Empire caught up with Wikus himself, actor Sharlto Copley, and got a good update out of him about what to truly expect regarding a sequel/prequel. Read on to find out what he said!
